I have a 32GB and I am almost out of space. Games like BG:EE take up a ton of room man. 1GB plus games are normal it seems like these days and it's not like it's going to start going down, the sizes re only going to keep getting bigger as apps become more advanced.

And you know very well that iPads don't have removable media.

I'd rather have an iOS tablet than Windows, so I buy the iPad with the most internal storage.

Besides, I save money on software. Final Draft(screenwriting software) is $40 on iPad, and $200 on Windows. Pages and numbers on ios are $10 each.

I have about 20 years worth of software bought and paid for that only works on windows.

Basic functionality like usb / micro sd along with the legacy keeps me in windows.

Final draft mobile / final draft do not offer the same functionality. On a surface pro you can have the full verison with you at all times and i'm sure the cheap mobile limited verision will appear on the windows store for dirt cheap also.

I can understand wanting to stay in Apples eco system and that's fine. I just can't fantom wanting to pay $100 for what other platforms offer you for $30. $800 for 128 gig ipad seems to be insanity to me. To you its fine since you save on the software I guess.

Why would people need so much space for a tablet? Unless they're really relying on it for their daily activities.

I like having all of my files consolidated into one space, especially on a device I'm probably going to watch it on. Though, with how wifi streaming has been progressing and online services like Netflix, I really only need that space for more of my favorite, have-to-keep movies/music. Plus, as mentioned previously, games are getting ridiculously huge these days. Before I could delete and re-download, but now they're designed to provide the skeleton app that then downloads the actual content once you open it. Ain't nobody got time for dat.

they should add a wireless keyboard case with that model, seeing it is as expensive as a MacBook Air.

Maybe they want to drive potential iPad-buyers to buy Airs instead?

though, I guess this means there will be no refresh until autumn and hopefully that 16gb will be discontinued in the next refresh

oh, and 128 gb iPhone 5S

Final draft mobile is awesome. It does everything I need, and at less than half the price.

I have a Windows gaming PC that boots directly to Steam, but I wouldn't want to use Windows for anything else. My portable computer needs are met just fine with an iPad.

I can see the use of having that much space on a tablet, but for the price I'm skeptical of it compared to a traditional computer. Good to have something in that price range I expect, covering all the bases and consumer possibilities.

I was expecting them to announce this at their iPad 5 event, so I guess this means it won't be this Spring?

That was my first thought, but I expect they announced this here to get the sales going earlier for the quarter and so they wont have to focus on it much at the event.

Beyond lottery winners and high flying execs, I will never understand anyone that pays this much for an iPad. What do you even need it for, recreational web browsing, some games, and movie watching?

Good thing external 64gb SD cards aren't supported, phew!

You guys laugh only because Apple was able to price the original iPad at a ridiculous price no one could match for a long, long time.

This option doesn't disable the cheaper price points.

You know your product has succeeded in some ways when people can't stop comparing it against the best selling product in its category in topics which has nothing to do with it.

So millions will come in droves and buy this, while consoles like Durango and Orbis need to be $400 or less to even sale. Ridiculous guys.

There goes apple's stock further down the tubes... their stock really should have never gotten as high as it has, but I think that little bubble of everyone and their brother paying a ton of money for the Apple name is waning unless they come out with something crazy innovative again in the next 2-3 years.

At that point, you could get a fully-functional and somewhat nice Windows laptop, or heck, you are almost there on a macbook.

This is stupid and not what I was hoping for. I, and many others, were hoping Apple would just incorporate 120gb into their lineup, so 32gb would be the new base model at $499. 120gb would be $699.

I hope that's the price it settles into for the fall. I want to upgrade from my iPad 2, but 16gb isn't enough and 599 for 32gb is a ripoff.

well, the features and flexibility of use for an iPad is much much much much much gigantically much greater than a console

I would choose a tablet over a console any day in the week, as would many others

the next generation launch will be very interesting due to this competition

When storage is the cheapest thing when it comes to today's technology, I've always been a bit disgusted at Apple's $/GB, so I definitely get where people are coming from. Everything else is the same, right? So $100 for 64 GB is ridiculous.

yes, I can see people more going towards a phone, fablet, laptop-combo considering the pricing

Two of the three uses you mentioned often involve individual files of multiple GBs

They also expected it to run OSX

(I have a 64GB iPad 4th gen)

It costs $100 to double the memory on an iPad.

16GB-32GB? +$100.
32GB-64GB? +$100.
64GB-128GB? +$100.

This pricing is unsurprising.

I have a 64GB iPad 3rd gen and it's nearly full. I stream all of my music, but it's filled to the brim with PDFs. I could actually see a use for this, but I'd just as likely delete some PDFs if it came down to it.
