I'm just surprised they are not addressing the surface style tablet at all.

While the surface is apparently not exactly lighting up the sales charts, it really seems like it's a superior form factor for a laptop. I don't see how IOS wont be sent as stagnant as hell once win8 tablets in general gain some traction.

It's either a heavy tablet or a tiny desktop. It's the typical monster transformer machine that people think they want until they try it.

Unless Lightroom or Photoshop (not express) is available for the ipad I can't see this happening. Does the ipad even have support for raw/dng editing?

I know tons who use an iPad and Aperture.

Please, that's nothing. I have 7 gigs or so left on my 64 gig iPhone 4S. Over 3,500 songs will do that to you. Hence my wish for an iPhone 5S or 6 with the 128 gigs of storage.

If they're going to make these kinds of minimal market devices, why not bring back the 17" MBP too?

Its still USB but with a different endconnector on the other side.

Not the same thing. Apple certainly takes their cut, but there's a huge difference in cost between the few high density chips in an iPad and the huge chip array on a 2.5" SSD.

Only difference here is memory. 17" MBP has other things to worry about, like chassis.

ARM tablets all use eMMC chips, not SSD. I don't think iPad would be any different.

Sort of. The iPad 4 is restricted to single-chip NAND (no 16-chip arrays like on SSD drives) Cost to manufacture seems to be pegged around $120 (so probably the Pro 1500 eMMC?), which means its a step above SD (which I think has had 128GB for quite some time as well as 256GB soon?)

As I said, Apple takes their cut - and its a big premium at those upgrade pricepoints - but COM is clearly way above say a 128GB Vertex drive. Lower capacity chips are much cheaper to use.
