Seriously. Looks gaudy as hell.
Unfortunately, probably in the same place as my 13" Apple laptop with dedicated GPU. At some point you just have to accept Apple isn't catering to you, specifically. I'm not saying it doesn't suck - there's ZERO reason the 13" rMBP can't have the same 750M as my 15" - or that my 15" can't have a better gpu like the 860M. But, that's just the way it is.
Apple is pretty delusional with things like this it feels like, They think this is what people wants. this is a huge mistake on their part and I am not surprised to see them making it also it's really sad to see people defending apple. it's pretty pathetic.I AirPlay, AppleTV, AirDrop, iCloud Drive, OneDrive, etc. USB is on my Mac, but I honestly have stopped carrying it around and just bring iPad with the iWork and Office suites to meetings, and just make shared drives for the groups. Nobody has had issues with that. I backup to Time Machine with USB while I'm charging the Mac on the desk though, so I guess I'd have to learn a new way to wirelessly backup to Time Machine and forget about it (they do make network hard drives and Apple has the network Time Machine so maybe that's next for me).
I just don't think they'd drop these things if they werent losing usage fast and weren't easy to replace in general.
Surprises me how many people constantly repeat the same song and dance when Apple releases revamped hardware.
Didn't mind when my friend's iBook didn't read floppies or when my desktop didn't come with a Zip Or Jazz drive. Didn't care when they dropped disc. Hell, I remember for YEARS people gave apple shit for not having Blu-Ray drives in their laptops... That format clearly took off :-/ Didn't care when my MBP dropped Ethernet.
I admit, I'm hesitant to drop USB ports and SD all together. But thing is - there are options. My rMBP works just fine. The new 15" and 13" rMBPs still exist. The CHEAPER MBA still exists.
And in two years, when they don't, if bet none of us will really need them, anyway.
This is probably one of Job's products. The Apple product roadmap was pretty far ahead when he passed.
Who knows when we start seeing stuff that Steve never looked at.
Could you back up an example where they were wrong with jumping this far ahead? You aren't seriously arguing this computer doesn't give options and will be seriously missing those ports more rather than less as time goes on?Apple is pretty delusional with things like this it feels like, They think this is what people wants. this is a huge mistake on their part and I am not surprised to see them making it also it's really sad to see people defending apple. it's pretty pathetic.
So why'd you say something as profoundly daft as "it's okay, you've got options" then?
Because I don't.
USB-C, innovation guys. Its like Apple want me to hate them. Fucking ridiculous.
I just watched the keynote, hollyfuck. Those people screaming and clapping for every small thing like its some holly grail. Its like journalist are not even trying to hide it now, next time they all should just bend over.
First five rows are Apple employees, execs at the front and usually employees that worked on the products after, must feel good finally seeing it in all its glory.
Skel1ingt0n shilling hard like normal I see.

USB-C seems awesome, just the single port is the problem
Unless you're mad because "Apple didn't actually invent that!" in which case I don't give a shit whether they invented it or not, looks like a useful port for me, and I'm all I care about as a consumer.
everything you said sounds great except the catch is the adaptor costs 80 fucking dollars.
What exactly does this MacBook offer that the Air doesn't besides a very small size and weight reduction?

That seems rather annoying since the Retina display is the only significant upgrade and it could easily have it too if they would just do it.Retina display, better battery life and it doesn't have any fans.
New. 2x SSD speed and faster GPU is worth it in the long run.Gotta decide between a refurbished 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with 256gb storage for 1149 or the new updated Macbook Pro Retina with 128gb storage for 1299.
Not sure if she is going to need much storage at all.
Air will probably get it at some point and then cost a bit moreThat seems rather annoying since the Retina display is the only significant upgrade and it could easily have it too if they would just do it.

So this is likely phasing out the MBA in the same way rMBP phased out standard MBP after coexisting for a while?
In a perfect wireless world yeah, that will be greatSo do people hate thin because it means losing certain thick features they like, such as ports? Like in a perfect wireless world, would this direction be welcome?
I am ready for it.

A cheaper price. And the difference in weight and size between the Pro and Air is significant. What exactly does this Air offer that the Pro doesn't besides a very small size and weight reduction?
It will be left in your bag and entirely operated with your Apple Watch- sold separately.I hope this means that the Air becomes ridiculously thin just to piss off people online. It will have one lightning port and no trackpad, you use your iPhone to control it.

We're years away though.
Apple has been making these big leaps for a long time now.

It's going to be a long time until every doo-dad we plug into a laptop can be done wirelessly.Apple has been making these big leaps for a long time now.
That price hahahahah

Kinda. They forced out hardware keys on phones before people thought software keyboards were ready. They forced out Flash before people thought HTML5 was ready. They got rid of optical drives before power users thought it was time. There's a whole bunch more. They have?
I think you're giving Apple a lot more credit than they deserve. And just because them dumping standards was fine before doesn't make it good now. It's a very short-sighted attitude. We'll never get there if someone doesn't take the first step, it's usually Apple that take that step and the rest follow. They've done it time and time again and they get hate on time and time again. From killing floppys with the iMac to killing drives with the MBA people have always given Apple shit for removing "essential" things from their products. It's like fucking groundhogs day every time Apple announces a product like that this cuts out things.

Within a few years when USB Type C is standard and used to interface with everything, no one is going to give a flying fuck that full sized USB was killed.

The issue isn't the C port, that's fine. It's the amount, you can't expect to run EVERYTHING off of one fucking port. We'll never get there if someone doesn't take the first step, it's usually Apple that take that step and the rest follow.
