Apple granted injunction against Galaxy Nexus

Its not JB... its android

Although, The Verge says Google says JB and Google Now won't be affected by this and this has to do with the GN specifically. I'm not sure I buy that though. If Apple could get every other cellphone banned in the country they'd do it . . . and I'd gladly go back to a feature phone in that case.

Exactly, I don't see how this applies to galaxy nexus and not every smartphone in existence. How long has unified search existed on android for? What about WP and BB?

I'm guessing because Apple only requested a ban on the Galaxy Nexus, and not other smartphones.

Does anyone even use unified search?

I actually don't on Android but it was one of the best features of webOS, especially with a hardware keyboard.

I find that I don't use it anymore because I mainly used it to launch apps (just add stuff to my home screens for commonly used apps) and I think I call fewer people on my contact list (use voice search for that instead).

So what is going to happen now with the patch to get rid of unified search? Won't they patch it back in at a later date when this whole thing gets settled?

I'm curious... if they've already pulled the Nexus from the store, why bother retroactively changing purchased Nexus' search functions? It's not like the court can order people to take our phone from us.

If they are found to be infringing, the damages will be calculated for every device and per day for any instance they took no action against removing.

But it'll be gimped :(

With news of HTC winning the slide to unlock thing, hopefully good news comes out from this.

This US judge (and obviously the patent office) aren't interested in examining prior art in the same way other country's judges are willing to do so.

Well, now this mess has gone beyond just a couple of companies battling it out and paying each other over patents. Now Apple's bullshit is forcing Google to remove useful features from its OS, making the experience worse for Android users (in addition to making them not able to actually buy the phone, of course). I'd say we now have a very real reason to say FUCK OFF APPLE, YOU ASSHOLES. I'm starting to legitimately hate them, and they have ensured that NEVER IN HELL will I ever buy an Apple product.

Steve Jobs has always been an ass hole and the company is just continuing his work

So does Jelly Bean not include the ability to search on your device from the search box?

In the version that's out right now, it's there. Interestedly enough though, it doesn't have the same preference to search on the phone first that it had before.

Earlier versions would simultaneously search web/apps/app data. Now it defaults to web first, and then you gotta pic "phone" from the options in the bottom.

That's not bad at all. Not that it matters though, I see this getting straight up tossed, and if not, overturned in an appeal in the end anyway. We shall see.

If the wall street journal is correct, google delayed street view and kept turn by turn from ios users. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. It's still companies battling, just like always.

As far as I know, the maps app in iOS 5 and below is made by Apple not Google. It simply uses google maps APIs and these do not support turn by turn, etc.

Those are google's own services, they aren't obligated to offering them to apple. It's completely different than google not being able to use their own services because apple said so.

They have no problem benefitting with all their other services. The article seemed to imply they disagreed over some aspect of it. Who knows. Like I said, companies battling. I don't agree with all aspects of all this shitty patent litigation either, but fan raging over the perceived Good or Bad Guys when their is always more truth in the middle seems absurd to me. *shrug*

Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) won a legal ruling after a U.K. judge said its Galaxy tablets aren’t “cool” enough to be confused with Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad.

The design for three Galaxy tablets doesn’t infringe Apple’s registered design, Judge Colin Birss said today in London in a court fight between the world’s two biggest makers of smartphones. Consumers aren’t likely to get the tablet computers mixed up, he said.

The Galaxy tablets “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design,” Birss said. “They are not as cool.”

What a quote.
