Apple lowers 13" Macbook Pro Retina prices

MacBook sales didn't drop at all though in the last quarter which was post-Retina, the only thing that did last quater was iMacs (which Apple blames on the fact it was out of stock for longer than expected)

Sorry; this is the only Mac they sell?
Their dropping the price, if it were selling at the rate they always sell at; why drop the price.
You were just telling my about high margins in another thread.

This model obviously isn't taking off and the price is seen as a deciding issue. Lower the price and people might see the upgrade as a more attractive option.

I don't think you can really compare a ChromeBook with a first generation MacBook Pro Retina.

He is probably talking about use case, not actual specs. If all you are going to do is browse the web and play tunes, then why unload $1,500 on a piece of hardware when you can get it done for $250.

Maybe they're getting better yields/prices on retina screens. I'd like to see a retina MBA this year, but then they'd have to cram a bigger battery in.

You are correct on this, yet I hope you understand this doesn't make you right on the low end nonsense. :P

Apple isn't going to make a $500 laptop ever.

Which is still twice the price?

$330 for a Mini.

I'm shocked at people continually clamouring for a retina MBA... The rMBP 13" basically IS a retina MBA with the slim form factor

I bought a Regular Macbook Pro 13.3 earlier this month, I can't justify paying more than ~$1000 this days for a laptop

Nice. I didn't think we were going to see a price drop on these until the Haswell refresh later this year. If they bump the base model to 256 GB then as well, I'll get one for sure.

I would buy a Mac... but them shits expensive.

I've had my original 13" MacBook for almost 7 years now and it's still running flawlessly. It's worth it. Meanwhile my father in law buys $300 Fisher Price laptops from Best Buy that die every 18 months and are horrible to use and weigh a ton.

Nice. Goes along with the rumors that they will discontinue the non-retina MBPs later this year. Supposedly along with a slight redesign for the MPBs too.

The MBAs are also somewhat reasonably priced now: $1k, $1.1k, $1.2k, $1.4k.

So is this update going to be their yearly update? Or will they update again in Sept?

I'm in the market for a new Mac and was waiting for the update.

god i want that 13" so bad.

can't wait for haswell and that updated integrated graphics card, then i am IN THERE.

So their greed finally found a price point that even the sheep the innovators, artists and baristas of tomorrow wouldn't cross?

Yeah, if you don't need the retina MBP now I would wait. Apparently the processors in the MBP are still a little too weak to run the retina display as well as a non-retina and you get things like slowdown, etc. during basic functions like web browsing. Haswell is supposed to fix those issues.

15" retina, haswell, 512GB strogage, 16GB RAM and I'm set

i never buy the first iteration of a mac product, as the second is almost always a huge jump from "first to market" to "usable product" ie my ipad

i'm torn between 13 and 15. are the dedicated graphics and screen size a trade off for the portability? hmmm...

These prices are really laughable. Can't believe people still eat this shit up compared to a $249 pc with superior software capability and the same exact specs but without retina.

Should be a law or some shit.

The prices aren't half as laughable as your uninformed post.

I need a new laptop, and it's going to be a MBP. The price is a major deterent, but the 13" has a really solid price. I just don't know if I should jump to the 15" for the significant spec boost, better performance, and overall better computer. I think I actually prefer 13" form factor to the 15" ... But the price is a real jump.

Also, been hearing about new intel chips for months coming in june, so I'm just thinking if I should wait until then.

GAF I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

Definitely NOT an "apple person" (primary developer computer is a PC, my old/dead laptop was an Acer that I loved, my work computer is a Lenovo, I have an old 17" MBP, use an Android phone, etc)... But seriously what the hell PC laptop can you get for $250 with "superior software capability" and the exact same specs? Like.. 8GB of Ram, intel i5, incredible screen, 6 hour+ battery life, and the best keyboard + trackpad in the business?

Don't get me wrong, I love some of the latest ultrabooks, but you're still dropping $900+ on any of those with similar specs, and you do end up sacrificing things like keyboard and trackpad functionality... Trackpad mostly.

But, really, $250? I will buy one today if you can link me to a $250 PC with "superior software capability" and "the same exact specs."

the 15" is still pretty light, but dat glorious retina screen needs that 15"

I've been using a 13" base model 2010 MBP and my friend got a 15" rMBP and I can honestly never go back to a 13" screen again

if you want a 13" retina, wait for the major update, GPU is a problem for both models but even worse for 13". Always wait an year when apple introduces new tech, seems like gen 1 machines are always flawed

I just spit up my coffee, for reals. Lol.

Looks like a sign of things to come for the retina MBP. I'm most likely going to upgrade in the summer I'm just waiting for the proper refresh. Rumor has it that they will be discontinuing the non retina models so I'm hoping that means the price will drop for the retina again. I was debating between the Air and Pro but if I'm going to have the laptop for another 4 years I don't want to be wanting a retina screen in a year.

Why would they drop the retina price again? Clearly, they intend for the Air to replace the old non-retina Pro.

Web browsing, email reading, social media interaction, video playback, media streaming, image manipilation, website building, video editing, podcast production, codec conversion, vector graphic creation - just some of the things I do on a daily basis on my Mac.

What software exactly am I missing? Or, like usual, does "software" mean "games"? That's the only time I ever feel as if my platform of choice is actually lacking in choices, and if I do feel that, I just boot into Windows.

I love how some PC people (just some, drfinitely not the majority) adore making Mac users feel so terrible about their preference.

Isn't this just like when the Air was first released? It was a luxury laptop that slowly worked its way down in price until it became the Apple standard.

I paid full price (edu discount actually), and have loved it since I got it. Always disappointing when the price lowers so soon, but that's the price of being an early adopter.
