Apple: More people switching from Android to iPhone than ever before

This is probably because Samsung removed many of the features and reasons people buy Android (SD card, removable battery, waterproof, etc.). There was essentially no reason to buy a Samsung Galaxy S6. My contract is up at the end of the year and I am looking for a strong phone to replace my Samsung Galaxy S3. Whatever I end up deciding on, it won't be Samsung.

Why would a person do such a thing? jk, i can understand why. iOS is great, but Android is better for me because of things mainstream users probably don't care about.

until apple copies them and then everyone loves it

Really like my $120 Moto E. I don't see what I'm missing not having an iPhone. To be fair I just got my first smartphone recently. But also I'm typing this on an Air so I am plenty a Mac fan.

I did the opposite in late 2013 because I had a poor experience with Apple. Device was fine for a year, then I had to go through 4 replacements. It's got its pros, though, and so does Android. My N5 sure doesn't have Siri or iMessage, and it won't define words I've highlighted with an inbuilt dictionary. You only really notice what's missing when you switch between the two.

Part of me wants to switch back because of all the tie in with the Macs in terms of Handoff/Continuity. But if an Android device shows up this half of the year with decent enough battery life, I'll hold.

Like omg, the screenshot folder they'll be getting. So new. So innovative. Never been done before.

Complete opposite, went from Android yeeeears ago to iPhone for 3 and a half years to a Sony Xperia X2 last year and I couldn't be happier.
Just prefer the customization and freedom compared to iPhones, things like slow OS and Safari, having to jailbreak it and fuck around to get certain apps or featuers that should be freely available.
Premium price for a not so premium product.

i'm 90% sure it's not gonna be anything "jailbreak" related.

I currently have my phone rooted and don't see the advantage of it.
The iPohne i had was Jailbroken, and didn't found anything that made me go "oh shit i'm gonna miss this".

things i'm gonna miss are the offscreen "back" button or the tasks button... that's kinda it
Really? To each his own. I have a bunch of tweaks that really gives my iPad a great boost in performance. It should be the standard.

A lot of it has to do with google taking away the ability to install apps to the sd card, as well as sd not being as fast as internal memory. The nexus 6 also doesnt have an sd slot. I really wish they kept sd support though.
How are they tracking this?
Ah, so it's a Google problem. Well, Android was about options. Internal memory may be faster, but choice would be nice.

How is Apple tracking the switch rate?

I almost just don't believe this, almost everyone i know or have asked has said they are sick of Iphone and want to or have moved to Android. Hell even I am sick of Apples shit, the older phones get so slow that they are almost unusable and the amount of apps that it doesn't have is stupid, plus there are barely any customizable options and it's hard to get ringtones and not pay, like you have to do a ton of stuff just to get downloaded media on there. Not to say that i was not impressed with how long it lasted ( I got an Iphone 4 late in the game and still have it) since I dropped it in water/ a pond/ soup/ and dropped it numerous times....then again i always had an otterbox and two screen protectors.

You are sick of "Apple shit" because you have a 5 years old phone and demand it to be fast?
You really are arguing that your single core phone should be fast in this day and age and should support all the app?
You should thank god that it was supported up until the second latest iOS release...

I really want to love Android, but there just hasn't been a perfect device for me. I think the Nexus 6 came close but every Android device has weird shit that happens with them, especially over time as they get updates. My Droid and Droid Bionic practically fell apart after every update, got tired of messing with that shit to keep them working.

My 5C has been a great phone, and really the only reason I'm gonna upgrade to a 6S Plus is for the screen size and battery. Can manage an entire day on my 5C still, but if I game at all it cuts stuff really close.

I had a 4S, loved it but wanted something a bit new so got an Xperia Z1 after it.

Hated it, jumped back on iOS at the 6 Plus release.
Never leaving iOS again frankly.

Holy shit, you're me, except I briefly had a 5S in between those two.

Turns out I just wanted a bigger screen, not a different OS, although there are some features I miss from Android.

they're so similar in basic functionality that people just switch back and forth as they get bored of one or the other. the "major fucking news" about software updates is always so banal. "APPLE BITES THE DUST WITH SLIGHTLY ALIASED MAIL ICON"

and then people are like "you use an iphone? really? you don't care about the slightly aliased mail icon, eh? hey, i can't judge fetishes."

Samsung user. Give me a couple more months at my job and I will be one of these people. Sick of Android. After 5 years I am finished with it.

all it took was larger iphones.

at the same time, i also expect that android is still growing faster and maintains the larger userbase.

Probably helps that lollipop is fucking garbage. Give me back my chrome-only tabs you wankers.

you can change it back in chrome's settings.

This is what gets me: people going "zomg i get this awesome perfomance by doing some twix zomg lol.

I still didn't/haven't seen real proof of it nad i don't find it something that needs to be done to enjoy a product

Thank you. Now if only something could be done about the stability issues. My basic apps and messenger freeze up constantly when multitasking (Z1s).

That's an option in chrome. You can change it so it's back to the way it was.

I really hate the notifications popup. It's a pile of shit compared to the status bar of old.
Especially when I want to tap something under the notdiciation. The only thing to do is wait because swiping will get rid of the notification. Makes me wanna go back to iPhone after like 6 years.

What do those specs do for you? Seriously.

The price is probably a larger part of it.

I had an original iPhone and the 3G, but since then I've just been using Android. While I know iOS is going to be lacking some features that I really like, I still want to try it just to see how it's changed. However, if I'm going for something other than a Samsung device, I can get something so much cheaper than a new iPhone that will still offer an experience that I enjoy. The Oneplus One has essentially made me unwilling to spend more than 400 dollars on a new, unlocked phone.

Switched from an iPhone to a Note 4. I just couldn't justify paying what Apple was asking for a 16GB iPhone 6 (the Note was actually less). So far I haven't had any issues (no crashes, no random reboots) and almost all of my iOS apps could be found in the Play Store. Amazing screen, removable battery, expandable storage, user accessible file system... I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner.

Yeah, the price concern is totally fair. You gotta prioritize what you want based on your budget, of course.

Just wanted to point out that hardware specs don't necessarily translate to performance, especially in the mobile arena with completely different operating systems.

Switched to a OnePlus last year, haven't looked back. I don't think I'll ever go back to phones as expensive as the iPhone. Not being tied to a plan paying $80+ is pretty great.

Making dat paper.

After 5 or so years of Android I picked up an iPhone 6, never been happier. Nothing wrong with Android but it seems to always leave you wanting more or jonesing for the next flagship. I'll be content with this phone for a couple of years, with Android I wanted a new phone every 6 months.

I love the continuity between my ipad and iPhone, and really want to get a MAC now too.

Switched from a Nexus 5 to iPhone 6 earlier this year and haven't looked back. Feels nice not having to be the "green bubbles guy" anymore. iMessage FTW.

Meanwhile, Google still doesn't know what it wants to do with Hangouts and Messenger. Maybe in a couple of years when they get their shit together I'll check out Android again.

I'd drop you a tweak list but as you said, you don't find it something needed to enjoy a product. Just not for you.

I think it depends on the Android phone you have. If people have the flagship Android phones I don't see why they would switch, it tends to be the mid tier and lower phones that people complain more about (not getting updates or support)

The Continuity features really are neat though. When you get a Mac it really comes together nicely.

Eventually it should be just Hangouts. As awkward as that name is.

I think you ignoring the "800 bucks" the whole of thing

Its kinda a big deal.

Sure. It just read to me like your primary concern was "price to hardware specs" ratio, or Apple's profit margin or something.

Yep. OPO is great and so cheap for 64gb and 3gb ram. Amazing value.

I always cry a little inside when people say they tried android and hated it, when what they tried was some Samsung or other custom nonsense.

Iphone 6 cost like 800$ bucks equivalent on Indonesia

*sigh*

I really want one too, but man phone had worse spec than one that 2x less cheaper, its frigging hard to justify it.
Specs between android and iPhone are not really comparable. Even RAM isn't 1:1 given the differences of the OS and how much each one minimally needs. Will the 6s benefit from 2GB? Of course. Will it perform similar to an android phone with 2GB (obviously where memory intensive operations are concerned)? Likely significantly better.

Even camera "specs" are nearly impossible to compare on paper, with Samsung only noticeably pulling ahead of iPhone in actual visual quality this year (likely explaining Apple upgrading to 12Mp and an entirely new sensor this fall)

Android users like to talk specs, but it's like saying your phone sucks because it only has 3GB of RAM while your PC has 16GB. The two architectures and operating systems are fundamentally and otherwise entirely different.

In my experience iOS is too much of a laggy piece of dogshit compared to stock android, I don't think I'd ever touch my 5 ever again.

I just switched from Apple to Android (S6)/and find Touchwiz to be incredibly clunky.

Google really shit the bed by only offering a 6" stock Android phone this year.

I don't understand... If you find touchwiz clunky then you will find stock Android clunky too. I think stock Android is always worse than the OEM Android.

Eh, i wouldn't return to ios after having ipad 2. Safari sucks, lack of ram sucks, multitasking sucks, no back button and itunes also sucks. Appstore is significantly better though.

I remember back in 2008 when I got my iPhone 3G. I forgave its flaws since it was one of the first smart phones in existence. I upgraded to the Droid X since I could use disk mode or wirelessly connect to my networked drives with the added bonus of SD card storage. I was able to get a bigger battery since I used it so much with its bigger screen. The FM Radio was a bonus.

I then upgraded to the S4 and lost quite a bit. Disk Mode is a crap shoot. I can't wirelessly connect to any of my media drives without buying an app. I look at the newer models like the S6 and there's no way to get a new/bigger battery or SD card. It's like I should just go back to Apple, lol.

Samsung is not the company to go with on Android.
But this is sort of androids problem to begin with. Of course there are perfectly great android phones out there, in a massive sea of android phones. Arguably the signal to noise ratio is very low in android handsets. So people go to the biggest name, and it sucks.

Android needs a good phone to take the spotlight away from Samsung, which is a huge problem when no other manufacturer is making any money. Otherwise you will still end up with people either defaulting to Samsung (and then after most switching to Apple) or throwing a dart at the dart board of cheap off contract phones hoping for the best.

Ultimately Google kind of created this problem to begin with, and really as of now has no way to fix it. I seriously can't see a way that android doesn't just keep losing the high end market, and given the differences in profit that were made clear in the past week or so, I don't think Apple even cares about the low end market. I doubt Apple can even put out a $300 LTE device that would run iOS 9 decently. Maybe that's what they're shooting for with the new Touches.

Honestly I started out with Iphone, then switched to Android and will likely never ever go back.
Apple os just feels odd to use. Dont like it at all.
