Apple now charges 30% for in-app "tipping services"

Apple is a terrible company. China is terrible to companies.

Let them fight.

Pretty much. That's the only rational position to have here unless one is a shareholder. Only Apple fanboys or haters could pick a side.

Or users of wechat and alipay that don't want to see their services changed for the worse, or disappear even.

Of course, that too. I know of wechat but it's difficult to grasp its scale for me. I don't use that many apps to begin with.

You don't need to be a Apple hater to want fair and consistent treatment of apps and companies within the App Store by Apple.

Apple thinks it deserves 30% of everything because it's apple. And more than 30% of people would probably think that's great, because they're apple.

I also like that consumers are screwed over by companies fighting. It is only 400 million people so who cares.

I'd like to see the conclusion of this. It could end up being better for consumers. I'm not saying that in a mean-spirited way. I'm just curious.

If only you could make energy out of GAF's desire to defend not tax paying scummy companies.

Sometimes I wonder if some kind of subconscious nationalism plays a role, as in the evil foreign government giving orders to OUR companies

I still don't get how they don't charge PayPal or Square Cash for example, but they do charge for this? [...]

Well they're both american companies and with the current climate wouldn't be surprised if the reason's actually political.

So if WeChat dropped apple support, who would suffer more? Would Apple's retention rate drop like a stone? Would WeChat risk the potential loss in revenue?

800 million daily users.

More than 50% of WeChat users spend more than 90 mins per day in the app.

It provides a level of seamless integration that iOS and Android are not even close to. (Mainly tied into the single login system).

I live in china and love it. Unlike america that has a billion different apps fighting for the same shit, wechat pretty much does it all. I can buy tickets for movies directly from the app, i can order food directly from the app, talk to my friends from the app, pay them back from the app. and pretty much everyone uses it here so you don't even need cash any more for the most part. for the last two weeks i've been without cash in my wallet.

Today I went to see a movie with a girl, used the app to pay for it. then went to a burger shop, used the app to pay for it, and then took a taxi home and used the app to pay for it. it's amazing.
