Apple: Thinness>>>Everything Else. BTW: Here's your hunchbacked $99 battery case

Looks pretty bad. Probably one of the worst official accessories from Apple I have seen. As many have said a charge pack makes a ton more sense, except if you want to pocket the phone, in which case this off looking hump would make it difficult anyway.

Maybe Apple wanted to show that they can make phones with humps on the backs.

Camera hump? Nah. Battery hump!

nah. Anyone buying completely into whatever Apple sells will accept a slightly thicker phone just fine. Who would realistically have a problem with an extra 1-2mm? Apple will just say how it allows them to have a magical new camera with the extra thickness.
I guess you weren't paying attention, but Apple just released a slightly thicker, heavier phone with better battery life.

The condescending attitude toward iPhone owners is right up there with "console warz" as a warning sign that a person is not very mature or actually aware of how things are it in the real world.

I think it looks pretty ugly.... At first.

But after some thought, keeping the thin edges around most of the phone retains the the concept of the thin phone, but just with a battery pack.

I think the Mophie products are good cases, but the whole phone becomes a MONSTER of a phone. While nice looking as a whole device, they become quite cumbersome. Not to mentione th terrible deep "well" that's built in to accomodate the back camera.

With apple's design at least it's a mostly light weight and then design.

It's odd, because it would appear it's one of the rare times Apple has actually prioritised function over looks. And would you know it, people are still complaining over a product they will never buy.

I bet these things are way better in person as you'll understand their function better when holding one.

I've had an OtterBox charging case for a while now and I love it. I don't know why, but it just felt way less cheap than the Mophie one and the design on the silent switch works way better.

Definitely way more weight, but phones are miniscule to begin with.

Honestly don't think it's something that is required. My battery lasts well enough. This seems like a special circumstances situation for those who may be away from a charging opportunity for longer than normal.

That's how I feel as well. Don't forget, it's not just thickness but also weight. The extra battery makes the phone heavier and more annoying to use. I don't need a phone that can go a whole week with no charge.

To be honest I kind of liked the iPhone 5c cases. They had this flowery, poppy 70s-retro look to them.

This battery case just looks like an iPhone growing a tumor.

I have a blue iPhone and alternate between the green, yellow, and pink cases. Tempted to pick up the remaining colors but black and white are boring and blue on blue seems pointless.

The worst thing is it doesn't really matter. Apple is integrated so deeply into a lot of my workflows that I'll never get rid of them. I've used OS X for a decade since my first AlBook, the 1.67GHz Powerbook G4. I've had the iPhone since the first one that came out in Australia (iPhone 3G) and I currently use a rMBP and an iPhone 6S and things like continuity are god tier and I'd never in a million years give them up. But I've used PCs for nearly 30 years. I still have a top of the line PC with Windows 7 and a 980 Ti for Windows games and I have a Shield for Android stuff when I want it for things like emulators and Genesis/SNES. I have an Apple TV and I have a Steam Link.

The right device for the right task. Just use whatever makes you happy and the least frustrated.

I just stick this in my bag if I am doing a long trip that might risk the battery.... multiple iPhone charges within.

Not ideal to fit in your pocket, but very handy.

This is the way to go, IMO. I have a slim one that I stick in my jacket.

The iPhone design changes every two years. It really isn't ideal to buy the battery charging case when you plan to upgrade to the next version, or go with a different phone entirely, since the case would be useless.

I had one of those cases for my iPhone 3GS and I remember Apple fans laughing at me because it "destroyed Apple's artistic vision" or some nonsense.

That's an official Apple product? That's pretty gross looking, something I would expect from eBay for $10.

FFS... only Apple can get away with this without being ridiculed.
Apple can make something absolutely perfect, and that particular brand of Android fan who treats these huge corporations like football teams will find some way to ridicule it. "It's dumbed down for dummies" or something.

This sounds made up. Especially for back in the 3GS era.

I think it gets a lot of things right, especially on the software end.

Then they screwed it up by having the hump and making it out of silicone.

I don't like the look of the hump but I could easily see this being easier to grip than one that is that thick from top to bottom. Especially on a 6S+. So there may be a purpose behind it.

If Apple were to make the phones thicker, that would very much bother me.

How bothered were you by the increase in size due to the larger screen with no longer a smaller option? And how long were you bothered by it until it was fine for you? You were against the idea of a bigger screen being needed, but it happened with no choice to the end user. I think you'd get by and it would be fine to the point that you wouldn't even notice it was thicker.

I've already clarified in further posts that I would continue to buy iPhones.

Also, when I was making the comment you replied to, I was imagining a more significant increase than a few millimeters.

Let's not play the gotcha game for once.

Meh. I don't mind the design. They could have absolutely done better, without a doubt. But, it looks like it'd be easy to hold, and I'm sure there's a reason why its designed that way.

Lightning passthrough is awesome, if it wasn't so much more expensive than competitors I'd buy one for that alone.

He also OK'd this:

You could feel the disgust in his speech. I feel it's what made them finally decide they needed to make their own phone and do it right.

It was exactly what made Steve go forward with the iPhone.

Apple has been having too many hiccups in recent years, more than I could remember when Steve was at the helm. They really need a higher-up with a visionary sense that says "yes" or "no" before products are released. The company seems to be worrying about profits nowadays and less of the user experience.
