wow, traditional watches are so fucked, lmao
Huh. What happened the last couple quarters to quadruple sales?
Yup, co-signing this. I would never spend the amount of money I spent on the AW on a traditional watch since it's just mere fashion with incredibly limited functionality. I was gifted a beautiful watch years ago but I never use it because it is a nuisance to put it on and "worry" about it just for trying to decipher the time from the minimalistic watch face lol.I got my aluminum Apple Watch 2 at the end of Feb; I wear it every day and absolutely love it. It's not a must have but it's a wonderful bit of productivity & fitness oriented luxury in my life. I use the timerI get the appeal of mechanical watches but I don't have the cash for aesthetics-only jewelry, whereas the Apple Watch hits a sweet spot in terms of price/features/materials/build-quality that was just right for me.
And now my wife, who kinda thought the watch was silly, understands the usefulness and wants one too.
Apple gotchu fam, just get one of the gold ones.Rather spend money on a 12-14k watch

Where do you work? Hardly see anyone with anything but Fitbits around, and even then much less than it was last year. I honestly thought wearables were going away soon. Could be a US thing though?
I myself wear a Gear Fit2 only because you could get one for like $80 new in box off craigslist last year as everyone who got one free with a Note 7 tried to offload it.
And because his son is inheriting the watch as part of his wealth its racism. We get it, you're rich.
Pretty crazy since everyone on the internet tries to treat the Apple Watch like it was a failure.
hows android wear doing?
Still skeptical on how useful they actually are. Hard to justify the cost for me.

I just wish they looked more like a regular watch. I can't stand the way they look.
Even a Seiko with a basic 7s26 movement can work like a champ without any service for 15/20 years. Lets see those Apple watches in 5 or 10 years how are they doing their job.
Way to compare apples to oranges
Not really. The primary function of a time piece is a fashion accessory, which feature a lot of market competition. A smartwatch is a totally different product.
Every once in a while I think about getting an apple watch. The functionality is appealing.
but they're just so nerdy looking. it's the new calculator watch.

The thread title effectively does the exact same thing
all combined... worse than Samsung alone with their Tizen based Gear S series.
plus, even with Google 'in charge' of updates, many watches are still not on 2.x months later.
Rather spend money on a 12-14k watch
By buying a watch that's obsolete from day 1.I'd rather spend the money on a watch that won't be obsolete in 3 years.
Actually you are wrong, expensive watches are used to impress a certain crowd. If you can't tell, you don't belong in that crowd.$14,000 watch? Why? No one that sees it will know you spent that, and it'll tell time just the same.
How is it any different than a phone, besides being 1/3 - 1/2 the price?I'd rather spend the money on a watch that won't be obsolete in 3 years.
The title is a way to put it into context. People have been comparing the watch to the iPhone and calling it a failure, looking at it this way puts it into a different and better perspective to me.
We get it, you're rich.
>.> ?
i bought a used 1962 Omega for like 700-800 bucks, that makes me rich?
I own four watches, the aforementioned Omega, a Fossil POS, a Hamilton Jazzmaster my wife got me for our anniversary, and a citizen eco.
I knew Apple Watch was a success when like 1 out of 3 people I saw when going to work would be wearing one. I'm waiting until their 3rd gen version before picking one up.
Meek Mill is going to rap about his Apple Watch now

How long before the EU fines Apple for only supporting Apple phones with the watch?
what kind? someone like myself or watchgaf might be interested.Yup, co-signing this. Anytime i dress up, i wear one of my nice watches. Just looks better than wearing a fitbit in a suit.not rich. you just blow a lot on aesthetic wrist jewellery, is all.
nothing really wrong with that, if it makes you happy. it's just more unusual these days.
watches have entered a strange new realm where they are split between 100% old school aesthetics (and not utility), and the newer wave that is more primarily about fitness tracking than keeping time. "Smart" watch status sort of sits as a modifier on that second category, where there may or may not be an app ecosystem for the thing. IMO several "feature" trackers do a better job in certain regards vs "smart" watches. Fitbit for example.
most of the watches some of us are talking about dont have batteries, you just wind them, or wear them and they keep time.Yeah I have a decently nice watch I was given as a gift whenever ago that I never wear because I'm usually not in a situation where it'd make sense, and then when I'm actually going to a formal situation... the battery is long-since dead. Traditional watches make absolutely no sense for my lifestyle.
They have been for a while, but not because of Apple.
Young people are used to checking the time on their phones, and the ones who buy watches nowadays wear them more as jewelry. So your typical Timex is fucked, but not your fashionable brands.
