Apple WWDC 2015 rumors, predictions, and speculation

Netflix, Hulu, Crackle et al.

Netflix specifically, but they'd have to pay through the nose for it. I've heard they've considered it a few times.

Don't think it'll ever happen, too expensive.

Those aren't really what I would consider the type of deal they are pursuing. They are pursuing an actual live streaming deal:
Moonves (CEO of CBS) said Apple’s effort was similar to ones that have already launched from Dish Network’s Sling and Sony’s Vue.

Yeah, I think Apple is going to really struggle to get any type of compelling tv/film or music service out the door unless they buy a network or something - simply because they're Apple.

Unlike a lot of aggressive start-ups, these rights holders know exactly how much money Apple has in the bank, and they know if Apple gets a good deal it'll be immediately successful and a like be the dominant force in the industry.

To put it simply, it's the 99 cent MP3 problem. The moment it's done, that's the world these rights holders are now living in.

Passed by Mascone Center on the way to work. iOS banners are up on the inside but the reflection was awful and couldn't get a picture. Did see a giant "X" though so I'm assuming new Mac OS update as well, too.

FT saying apple is going to change its 30% cut for music, video, and news companies on the App Store. Good change if true.

I'd really like to see Apple drop (or heavily reduce) the cut they require of digital in-app purchases if you're primarily selling third-party content. Would be nice to get out of this stalemate with Amazon, Netflix etc.

"Apple to launch streaming service When Apple unveils a new music streaming service at the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, it will largely leave behind its 15-year-old iTunes brand."

Wonder if iTunes the app will die off eventually.

My only concern is myself, my brother and my girlfriend all use one spotify account (download music for offline use so we don't disconnect each other). I highly doubt Apple has any family sharing option it's likely going to be tied to accounts

The only thing I want to hear from Apple is that they got SMB working properly in OS X 10.11.

I'm stunned that they still haven't got this basic feature right.

I know it's a big ask, but I really hope they make a good Android app. I'm sure the iOS app on iPhone/iPad will be great. While I enjoy using Spotify, if Apple can offer a comparable service with a better app, I would interested in trying it out and possibly switching.

The sooner the better, honestly.

This would be sad. Truly the death of the young, hip, iPod-centric return of Steve Jobs era.

So just carry on using Spotify? I'm not sure what people are expecting that would make it so much more competitive than Spotify that they'd switch. this feels more like iBooks vs kindle, where the existing marketplace is established and well known. Apple aren't bulletproof in such cases.

Do you think they'll bother with a dedicated Android app? Or rather just use a web app, mobile website for Android folk.

There is rumored to be a 3 month free trial, so I'll keep both for 3 months to see if it's worth it. I don't like spotify apps, they're terrible IMO, so if there is a better alternative I'll jump on it

They are, if the rumors are true, making a Android app for Apple Music.

I hope, but honestly doubt, the new app will include full iTunes sync support as well. I'd like the option of using Google Music and Apple Music/iTunes too. Just about finished with my WWDC event topic. Is it ok if I post it now or, would the mods prefer if I waited until Monday morning?

They usually have the banners inside up by now. Odd, I'm guessing they've stopped doing that.

I guess they've clued into the fact that it gives away too much.

Everyone guessed "Yosemite" last year because the banner had a picture of, well... Yosemite.

Seems like such a silly thing to try and keep under wraps though.

Knowing that it's called OS X Mojave or whatever doesn't ruin anything or spoil any features. It's just a picture of a landmark with an X over it, big deal.

This is Apple we're talking about. Remember.

Apple likes keeping things as secret as they can (Barring the many many leaks that seem to happen) for as long as they can. I was at MWNY in 2001 and 2002 and they kept the banners covered up until right before Steve announced it on stage. At which point employees of the Javits Center pulled on the ropes to release the sheets.

I guess they don't do that anymore.

I'm not familiar enough with landmarks in California to know when I see one. Really looking forward to Monday.

I'd like to see a new iPod Touch. It's long overdue a refresh.

The "new iPod Touch" is your old, deactivated iPhone. I imagine that's part of the reason for the sales slump that line has been in.

Personally, I've owned a few iPod Touches over the years, but now they've been replaced by my old iPhone 5.

It would be really nice if they break it up into separate apps for music/podcasts, movies/TV and maybe shuffle off the iOS stuff to the App Store app. If iTunes in 10.11 is still the same bloated monster it is now but with a streaming service bolted on then that would quite worrying. Apple have rested on their laurels for way too long with iTunes; what was once a great app is now by today's standards a joke.
