Apt neighbor endless door slamming

God I feel ten years old whining about something like this but damn is this annoying. The lady across from me does not use the door handle but pushes her thick front apartment door as hard as she can about 50-100 times when I am home. Its enough to give me irregular heartbeats as you dont know when its coming. It is enough to shake my own door and these enormous whacks I gave up trying to read and just turn up my radio or tv to drown it out some. Its been three months and its getting louder and louder. I dont understand how an adult, especially in apartment complex feels its okay to make what sounds like the equivalent of football team ramming into your door nearly a hundred times a day.

Its like something you do as kid once at your house and your parents chew you out good about manners. I'm sure other gaffers have tales, I am curious how you handled it. My apt manager doesn't sound too interested and this german lady will get a hello out occasionally but it clear she wants be left alone and I dont know exactly what say if I do caught her without pissing her off or myself depending on what she says.

When she does it, open your door and yell QUIT SLAMMING THE FUCKING DOOR, YOU GODDAMNED DOOR SLAMMING FUCK, then quickly close the door and turn the lights out.

My most hated part of apartment living.

People just can't fucking close a door quietly.

There's nothing you can do other than talk to them or your apartment owners and hope they're not assholes.

Knock on her door and ask if she could close her to lighter.

Then again, I've never had this problem in apts or dorms, so shrug.

This.

My neighbors let their doors slam and it makes my walls shake. Fucking annoying.

It's just the realities of living in close proximity to others. Sometimes their ways bother you. I have a roommate who does tons of stuff that annoys me, but it's really all harmless and just the way he is. I recognize that being annoyed at something isn't a sacred right, and really the problem is on my end. I talk to him about it and politely let him know some of the stuff that gets on my nerves, but I also let him know that he's under no obligation to change.

Maybe you could strike up a conversation with her to let her know of how much the door slamming bothers you. Maybe she's unaware that she's bothering anybody. Don't give the impression that she has to change her behavior to placate you; that will breed resentment. Be friendly, and try to see it from her point of view.

Just wait 6 months, she will be moving out.

I hated the random neighbors I had when I had an apartment. It was like a lottery every month. Never knew what crap you would have to put up with when the new tenant moved in.

Act like you've never heard her slam the door before and when she does it open the door and go "Is everything okay? heard the door slamming and came to see what was going on."

I've heard about people in my apartments having door slamming fights, where someone would do it, then someone would get pissed and do it in retaliation, then someone else would start slamming, and it kept going until they gave up. I haven't experienced it yet, I assume it was a one-time deal.

People are fucking savages, seriously.

sorry... i'm really bored right now.

sounds like a shitty scenario though. i had neighbors like that upstairs from me in my old apartment, and unfortunately there was nothing i could do unless it sounded like violence was occurring. or unless it was happening in the late late hours of the evening. sometimes it was, but i was too lazy to care.

So you haven't tried talking to her about it?

Door slamming isn't that bad. I once lived above a group of college kids who had drum circles on Sundays. Loud, rhythmless drum circles. Thankfully they didn't live there long. The other problem I had was the girl next door had really terrible screaming fights over the phone with her boyfriend then turn around a few days later and and have really loud aggressive makeup sex. Shit was so damn annoying. So yes be glad it's just door slamming.

I'm trying but this is common manners and she is not deaf or elderly. What is her point of view so I can understand and strike up the right conversation? Why should the south wing filled with disabled and retired people have to hear one person slam their door like a bomb so atrociously loud at 5-10 min intervals every day? Once or twice, a windy day, who gives a crap. She seems very very angry and so so busy doing laundry, cooking, etc, its going be hard to word this right. Maybe I should tell maintenance there has to be something wrong with her door. Or I think there is something wrong with your door, it sounds terrible, we should have maintenance look at it?

had same issues with stupid family members and the bathroom door next to my room

so I got some of those isolation/protection strips from the hardware store and tried to fit them to the door frame ... (getting them to fit properly might take a few tries)

the door now needs a little more force to close it, but the horribly loud wood-banging-on-wood sound is gone now :D

The people above me stomp...all.fucking.day. I don't know what the hell they do up there, but I know it's not the quality of the building as the people that lived there before never made a sound. I'm almost to the point where I'm more curious as to what the fuck they're doing than just being mad about it; it's unreal.

Two more weeks and I'll have a house, never living on the first floor again if I ever get back into an apartment (though it is awesome for bringing in groceries).

the worst for me was when my neighbors in my last place got rock band.

THUMP THUMP THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... THUMP THUMP THUMP... YEAHHHHH!H!!!!

my current place doesn't have anyone below or above me. it's a condo/townhouse where i only have neighbors nextdoor and thats it.. thankfully they are outside smoking all day, and because i've not filed a complaint (because it is against HOA rules and they could be evicted) they allow me to be as loud as i wish... yay.

Probably just wearing shoes all day. That's often the easiest way to go from silent to banging-in-your-head-all-day stomping.

I actually hear my neighbors below stomping all day. I thought it was hammers at first because it'd be like 3-5 bangs at a time, but it's actually them walking into a room, where I only hear the steps that happen right below me. They're likely wearing heavy ass shoes indoors all day and producing loud enough sounds against the wood floor that I can hear it upstairs.

Seal her apartment so she is locked from the inside. Time will take care of the rest.

You'll probably have to cut the power and steal her phones.

have a friend come over and pretend he's a repair man and just install one of those devices that let the door close slowly. i never paid too much attention to them, but i think they work with compressed air or springs or both or something.
