Arc Rise Fantasia (Wii) screens

Hey, considering every goddamn game that's been released the last couple of years has been some grim and gritty "realistic" shooter, with a dingy palette of gray, brown and pea-green, a brightly colored JRPG with whimsically designed characters is a nice change of pace.

What the hell? Shooters looking generic somehow redeem cliched JRPG-looks now????

But since he doesn't like the colorful environments, then he probably chose his console wrong.

Where do you pull this shit from?

If he likes good JRPGS, he chose his console wrong. Nintendo consoles have sucked for JRPGs since the SNES. The N64 didn't have any JRPGs, and the Gamecube only had Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario and Skies of Arcadia.

Yeah I was one of those suckers who thought that Wii would have some DS-magic.

Since the present console generation started, there's been a scarcity of JRPGs, cliched or otherwise. I have no idea if Arc Rise Fantasia will be any good or not, but I'm sure as hell glad to see more games like it, especially on the Wii. By the by, I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but what JRPGs do you not consider cliched?

Don't forget Baten Kaitos I and Origins!

Ha yeah let's not go there. Hint: Very few...
Fair enough. :lol I enjoy the genre enough that I'm a fairly easy grader. You're right about the DS being the place for good RPGs this gen. Sadly, I had to sell mine; something about the ergonomics caused some nasty carpal tunnel problems for me. I really hope that Nintendo makes something like the Gameboy Player for the Wii so I can play the games without killing my wrist.

And I thought people bought their Nintendo consoles (since N64) to play Mario, Zelda and co.

If your main goal wasn't to play Nintendo's games, then you really should have waited until games (RPGs) were out already.

I'm not getting a PS3 until WKC is out, and then I'll get Uncharted and VC, then probably I will have to wait until FFXIII or something else unannounced. But I didn't get the console on day one expecting to have 500 JRPGs within the first year as if it was the PS2.

Wait and see, that's the best strategy.

Strangely enough, those are the only jRPGs I've ever played on my Wii. Sadly they're both not really Wii games per se. :/

The Wii actually needs more games like this, that aren't completely focused on the wiimote.

I find the wiimote + nunchuck very comfortable to play with on games that require no waggle or pointing at all. Why? Because I can have my arms in different positions, and not the typical one while holding a pad.

This times a million. The nunchuck and the 'mote are fine, as long as I don't have to waggle or point. I just find all motion sensors, waggle and whatnot totally distracting and "not fun" for video games.

Looks good, but I think Twilight Princess looks better (was reminded because of the lava).

This looks pretty great, for Wii. Like a better looking Tales of the Abyss, or something. Also reminds me a lot of Eternal Sonata. Oh well, who cares, it's fucking awesome that there will be something to play other than shite Ubishite and Activision 'casual' games on Wii.

Now that really makes me think of a Tales of game.
Looking pretty good. If I ever get a Wii I'm going to check up on this game.

Unless you want to actually play something, and live in present. Wii delivered until 2008.

Dude, you are complaining about the lack of RPGs on the Wii, that how disappointed you are with your console of choice and no RPGs, why are you bringing up other genres?

If you have more games and like them, then why are you disappointed with your console of choice?

You make not sense.

Because it doesn't have enough of 'em? I'm really not in the mood for this "let's play dumb" game right now...

Why do these people have Chinese-style clothing from ancient time when the setting seems to be the middle east ?

Doesn't the red give it away? Hint:
China = Communism

if those were onion domes, it would look alot more typical. i think it's meant to just give an alternate reality look, you know, make each culture and mythos its own.

It probably does because the battle programmer was formerly from Tales studio. The visual effects are totally Team Symphonia style.

edit: That trailer was hot. but please, don't burn me again Mikage >_< I really couldn't get into World Destruction.

Now that you say so, I hope SEGA is planning to bring over WD, I really liked the anime, for related RPG<>Anime show, it wasn't that bad.

Is this standard rpg goodness, or baten kaitos card style goodness?

Not card-based.

World Destruction was already confirmed to be getting an English release in Fall 2009.

And for the record, I really enjoyed the game. I know duckroll did, too.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Yes. When did this happen that I missed it?!

You know, I'm hoping this game makes up for the disappointment that Tales of Symphonia: DOTNW is supposed to be. The console really needs a good JRPG.

Oh thanks Aeana!

IGN and 1UP had nothing on them when I checked them.

Its supposed to suck? Say it aint so :^(

The character models are not bad, but this game has extremely flat lighting. It seems more flat every time new screenshots are released :/

;_;

Well, from what I've gathered anyway, it's supposed to be pretty mediocre. Who knows, maybe it's not that bad.

But don't expect the same quality as the first.

They said they're rebalancing the difficulty, too, which sounds like it could be good. The Japanese game is definitely very easy.

Im going to church right now

The world map and the way you encounter enemies remind me of a Tales game. The combat looks kind of like skies of arcadia.

Thank you! It was driving me crazy that something seemed overly familiar about the combat system's style and I couldn't place it.

Huh, just saw that Youtube/Ruliweb combat vid.
Looks like the currency in this game is called Rico.
I could be mistaken, but I think that's the same currency as the Luminous Arc games.
