Arcade-Age: Who has their own games?

I have an Arkanoid II cocktail cabinet.

Also have a Ninja Baseball Bat Man PCB in a rundown cabinet (used to be Rampage that was very sloppily converted to Pit Fighter). May sell the PCB since I never play it anymore and try to eventually restore the cab a bit, turning it into a MAME cabinet.

This one's my baby that I built last year.

It's fairly nice, but a buddy of mine has a MVS-2 Mini that I'm pretty jealous of. It's what mine is partially styled after. A vintage Donkey Kong would be pretty rad, too. 'Course the price on those seems to just be going up. I could almost get away cheaper just building one from the ground up.

Got three Candy Cabs. Very cool machines.

Only have three actual arcade games though. The two Cave Ibaras and the Fist of the North Star fighting game for my atomiswave.

Definitely want to pick up some more PCBs and an MVS sometime in the next year or two.

I have two older cabs, a Gyruss and a Turbo. The green part of the Gyruss RGB monitor is out, and while it's probably just a loose wire I've never gotten around to fixing it. Otherwise, it works fine, and the Turbo is in fantastic shape.

I live in a very small house and don't really have room for either of these, but what the hell. If I ever wind up with some more space I'll start seriously looking into picking up a Neo-Geo cabinet (ideally a nice Candy, but I'd be happy with basically anything), but what I really would love to have is a pinball machine of some sort. One day, one day.

For anyone in the Southeast US looking for an auction, I can recommend the folks who run Auction Game Sales. Their current schedule alternates each month between Winston-Salem, NC and Kingsport, TN, though their homepage mentions that they also run auctions in Virginia, Maryland, and Texas.

Candy cab might have to be my next big purchase, if I can find one in the midwest. Just bought a PC, might need to wait a little.

That's funny, that's my garage, haha. That's a pic I used when I put that machine up for sale. Where did you find the image?

Anyways, I've had a few machines. That KI2, a War: Final Assault machine, and the 4-player X-Men cab I have now. I've had a number of PCBs, but I finally converted my 4 Player cab into a MAME cab with soft 15k. I've been using MALA, but its not really working the way I want it to. I'm thinking about selling the cab soon. I just don't play it enough to justify keeping it. Maybe I'll tinker with using a different front end before I decide on selling it off.

I would really love to get my hands on a candy cab someday, but they rarely show up in my area. There was an arcade auction this past weekend that I skipped out on, should've checked it out for a candy cab! :-/

My three pinball machines; I claimed the Sky Jump from my parents when they wanted to get rid of it last year. Had to rent a van and drive it across three states. It's been in the family for about 32 years.

One of the things I'll look for when I look for a new house in a few years is adequate space for at LEAST one pinball machine and one arcade cabinet.

I <3 Gyruss. Played it all the time as a kid. Music f'ing rocks!

I need to find an arcade auctionner near Québec, even if I have to go to Montreal for that :(

I want a home cabinet so bad :(

One of these days I'll get a Japanese candy cab.
I'm thinking about going a year without buying any games, and then splurging on an Astro City and a couple of PCBs with the money I've amassed.

I have a Marvel vs. Capcom cabinet in my apartment...I want to convert it to a MAME cab soon, though.

How are some of you guys doing it?

He also owned Attack from Mars, another great machine.

Oh man, you still have it? What a table, certainly one I'd like to own someday.

Got a supergun and a bunch of PCB's, all shoot 'em ups (mostly Cave & Raizing).

I played a Donkey Kong cabinet at PAX this year and it made me really want one. How much do they go for?

It can vary wildly. Based on my (fairly limited) experience, I'd recommend trying to find an arcade auction near you. Show up with a truck of some sort and be ready to pay cash, and hopefully a) they'll have a DK cab and b) it won't run you an arm and a leg. Depending on how many folks are bidding, I reckon it could go for anywhere from $200-$400. Alternately start looking on Craigslist to see if anyone local to you is moving and looking to offload a cabinet in a hurry. Finally, there's always eBay, but prices are likely to range from extremely stiff to simply ludicrous. That said, I just checked and there's a guy in Alabama who will hook you up for a starting bid of $350. The trick is to get down there to pick it up...

There are a few ways to do it. Check out Ultimarc for one of the more common ways.

I have a Xenon pinball machine we got for $75 at a garage sale. It needs a lot of work which I've basically failed to do for the last 10 years.

Someday I'd like to have a sit down cab and some more pins, but I would need the space and money, both of which I don't have now.

Cool thanks! That's cheaper than I expected. I guess getting it home and the logistics of the sale are key as you explained.

You have to have massive space for this stuff.

that was the problem - the wife and I had our four Astro's in the living room. Now that was fine whilst it was just the two of us but once she was expecting and we were moving into a new home, there was just no way we could keep them (i wanted to keep one but there wasn't really a place for it in the new house)

Then there is getting rid of arcade machines in Japan - initial quotes for garbage disposal were running at $200 per machine, luckily we found some one who would take them off us if we paid $10.

I've always wanted a few arcade machines, but I live in small apartments and move every few years. So I (over many years) built my own portable arcade machine (using real arcade controls).

Yeah. I like LOTR but Attack from Mars is the best machine I have ever played. It's hilarious and has a ridiculous amount of features.

The problem with pinball machines is the maintenance needed for them.

I wholeheartedly agree. The game is just stunning, what seems like a simple layout reveals a TON of layers and depth. All the shot's make sense. It's by far the most well laid-out table I've ever played, and I've played a lot of pinball.

The only game I would rank against it would be Addam's as my absolute favorite. Screw the maintenance $$$, totally worth it.

This makes me incredibly sad.

Nice. I'm a pretty big fan of the cardboard proto, as well.

/falls into the category of want, but doesn't have.

Always wanted a MAME machine and at least one pinball machine in my home. Alas, until I actually buy a place (very unlikely at this point) and/or have the space to put them, I can't see it happening.

There is a shop near me that sells reconditioned pinball machines, and had a couple I'd be interested in purchasing, Twilight Zone and Circus Voltaire, but not cheap.

I'd look into buying a MAME machine (no time, tools or space to build one), or an old arcade machine, but I think they are a lot more expensive where I am then in the states.

I have a Showcase cab with TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT and a SEGA Astro City with Street Fighter II: World Warrior.

Also have TEKKEN 5: Dark Resurrection <3 !

I've got a Killer Instinct cabinet (needs some repair) and an Elevator Action 2 cabinet - which was AWESOME in my sweet bachelor pad back in the day. No room for 'em at my current house, so they'll sit in storage until I can make some room.

Been meaning to post in here for a few days but didn't get around to it until now.

I have a couple of cabinets - I have a Capcom Impress cabinet as posted above, and I also have a beat up Altered Beast that was converted into a Super Street Fighter 2 before I got it.

I have way too many boards...might be approaching pre-purge DCharlie levels of madness. I more or less stopped buying boards a while ago...last few I got were the Namco System 11/12 stuff. I'll post what I can remember off the top of my head...

All the Street Fighters from Street Fighter 1 to SSF2T, and a few extra (SFZ2A)
All the Darkstalkers/Vampire games (all of them, including stuff like VS2/VH2)
Eco Fighters
Alien Vs. Predator
Street Fighter 3
Warzard
Strider
UN Squadron
Ghouls and Ghosts
3 Wonders
Neo Geo MVS with a bunch of cartridges, maybe 10-15 games including Pulstar, Sam Sho 1/2, League Bowling, Metal Slug
Hyper Neo Geo 64 with all four of the fighting games
Sega ST-V (modded for multi-region) with a bunch of cartridges, maybe 10-15 or so, including Die Hard Arcade, Elan Doree, Radiant Silvergun, Soukyugurentai, Cotton 2, and Purikura Daisakusen
Sega Naomi (modded for multi-region) with a bunch of cartridges, maybe 10ish, including DOA2 Millennium, Power Stone, Zombie Revenge, Slashout, Guilty Gear X, CvS 1
Tekken 1-3
Soul Calibur
Mr Driller 2/G/Star Trigon
Uo Poko
Ehrgeiz
Dancing Eyes
Robocop 1 and 2
Bad Dudes
Virtua Fighter 2

Gamshara
Battle Tryst (3DO M2 hardware)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Simpsons

Rolling Thunder
...and probably a few more that I can't remember right now

A couple of project boards that never went anywhere:
Percussion Freaks 6th Mix (I bet I can get this going with my Rock Band drums if I put some effort into it)
I have a Fighting Bujutsu board that I have no idea how to wire up...wonder if it still works.

Even though I only bought boards for the most part...this stuff takes up a lot of space! I'm trying to reorganize my apartment so I can use the arcade machine more often...

Got a VF3 original Model 3 cabinet a few months ago. I've since replaced the sticks and buttons with brand new Sanwa stuff, and bought a few games (Sunset Riders, Real Bout Special, Matrimelee, Metal Slug X, Puzzle Bobble and Last Blade 2) but I still need to get started with the conversion since the cab isn't natively JAMMA standard.

It will involve making an adapter from the original cables to a JAMMA braid and then some extra wiring to get the sound running properly.

[Shou's collection]

Every time I read a post of Shou's at TNL or gamengai or whatever, I kinda get blown away at how hardcore he is when it comes to collecting. That list there is serious.

i need to start this shit, i want a small collection of PCBs.

last time we were out he was checking his phone for an auction for Scud Race Plus. :O Just insanity

lol, last time around i had about 180-200 PCB's then i sold them out (I sold a load to Shou, Cannon Dancer included (probably my most regretted sale item of all time). Shou warned me i'd come back to them - and i did. "But this time i'm only getting essentials and i'm going to play the crap out of each one" ... this didn't quite go to plan and i ended up building back up fairly quickly...

... and now i'm looking to sell up again. Shou : "lol"

Dude, I've always been jealous of your collection whenever you posted about it...but that collection is insane! :) How much space does he devote to it?

I've pretty much hit the brakes on buying boards, I only really want stuff that can't be played any other way now (or where playing on real hardware is noticeably better), what I have takes up way too much space as it is. I just wish I had more time to play the stuff I have...:p

Tain, it's probably easier than ever to get started...I've been collecting arcade games for a little over 15 years now. I started when I was in college, living in the dorms...built my own supergun with some plywood, a PC power supply, and a homebrewed RGB to composite video converter box...now you can easily get yourself set up, even if you don't have the space for a full cabinet. It was the best having the REAL Street Fighter II CE in my room back in the day, we were playing it constantly (although it's not like I ever got tournament level good)...

(It was also fun when I actually brought a cabinet back from an auction while I was still in school...made a deal with the RA and we set it up on free play by the elevator for people to play, and I'd rotate the game in it out every so often.)

The only bummer is that the shocking deals back then are nowhere to be found, thanks to ebay. I used to call up operators and they were often more than happy to sell me the old boards dirt cheap, because to them they were worthless...that was back when the internet itself was different. I was cleaning my closet last week and found a box that someone had used to ship a game to me. In the box was a notecard with his address and the amount of money I owed him. Can you imagine someone mailing stuff like that out without receiving payment first nowadays? (rec.games.video.arcade.collecting was a pretty tight knit crowd back then, I guess...)
