I have a Marvel vs. Capcom cabinet in my apartment...I want to convert it to a MAME cab soon, though.

How are some of you guys doing it?

To make it brief (this is coming from a guy who converted a SF2CE machine into a MAME cab)

- Remove the game board and mostly all of the innards
- Replace the monitor with a LCD monitor
(A purist will keep the original monitor and buy a specific ATI Card that supports 15Hz but my monitor was too ugly for the trouble)
- Buy a iPac2 for the joysticks (REALLY EASY TO SETUP AND USE, really recommended! It even works with my token slots)
- Put a PC with MAME configured inside your cab
- Play

My cabinet is functionnal but I need to put more work into it (ie: configure my frontend menu, find a way to light up my token slots, get a new glass and bezel to fit with my 22inch screen, etc...)

lol, last time around i had about 180-200 PCB's then i sold them out (I sold a load to Shou, Cannon Dancer included (probably my most regretted sale item of all time). Shou warned me i'd come back to them - and i did. "But this time i'm only getting essentials and i'm going to play the crap out of each one" ... this didn't quite go to plan and i ended up building back up fairly quickly...

... and now i'm looking to sell up again. Shou : "lol"

Mame on a LCD in a Cab is terrible IMO , keep the monitor and use soft15 on your graphics card .

I always wanted to buy a Astro City cabinet to play various CPS2 boards but I don't have the space right now. Once my future house is finished being built, I can start planning out the basement space.

I also would like to pick up a Initial D machine down the road. I played that wayyyyy more then I'd like to admit (I'm talking following Japanese and HK time attacks and entering my times).

I have a friend who had a DDR machine back in the day and we played the crap out of it. It took a bunch of us to unload the pads off the back of the truck when it first arrived.

Being a meter reader and having to go into a lot of people's basements to get to them, I see a lot of crazy stuff. There is one house that has a Street Fighter II arcade cabinet... I need to find the owner one day and see about snagging that for myself.

On a slightly unrelated note, there is another house where the old lady has a crapload of NES carts in a box... I was only able to peek at one game, which turned out to me Metroid, but if I ever get in there again, I gotta ask her "How much?"

I have about 20 MVS games for my two slot MVS-2-25. I've had it for a few years now. I've also got PCBs for Violent Storm and Great 1000 Mile Rally.

My Sega Blast City came in yesterday!

I think I'm officially out of room in my apartment, but it's so worth it! My Neo games look so good on this huge monitor!

How is Great 1000 Mile Rallly? Looks a lot like my favorite Neo Geo racer, Neo Drift Out.

I'm somewhat proud of myself for talking my parents into buying a Twilight Zone pinball machine when they decided they wanted to get one. They bought it over 10 years ago, when I was in high school. Can't believe how much it has appreciated since then...they only paid like $1400 and currently I see TZ machines going for like $4-5K (when they're in great shape like this one). Anyway, it's a super fun machine. Shame that pinball has practically dissapeared at this point.

It's cool to know that I'll inherit it some day when I actually live some place big enough to fit it and my folks downsize to a smaller place in their retirement...

Edit: hopefully pinball isn't considered too off topic for an arcade thread...

You'll love your Astro! Great 1000 Mile Rally is pretty fun. I love the style of cars they've chosen for the game, but the US version is a bit weird as they added giant flames shooting out of the tail pipes and some strange looking cartoon like cars. I feel like it's one of the more fun 3/4 racers as it just controls really great. When you turn it just feels so perfect. Unfortunately my board doesn't have sound so I'm hunting for another one. I took some better pictures yesterday of my setup.

In the big red I've got a 2nd Rev. Hyper Neo Geo 64. Snagged that with Samurai Shodown 64: Warrior's Rage, Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition and Buriki One for a good deal on ebay. I also picked this up today as well...

It's a beauty, but it will be staying at my friends house until I decide what I want to do with the big red. He lives next door so it's not too painful

FINALLY got my NAC up and running after a long couple of months!

Pretty much gutted the insides (it was a mess), and luckily most of the cosmetic stuff was in good shape to begin with, but all in all it runs perfect now (thanks to some help).

My roommate and I are currently in the process of building our own MAME cabinet in a vaguely candy cab-ish form factor. We've already got a PC and two sets of Seimitsu sticks and buttons, and our current plan for a display is to use a very high quality 22" CRT monitor we found on Craigslist. Ghetto, I know, but I'll post pics here if we ever finish the thing.

I have this bad boy:

As shown, it was a SF2CE machine but the monitor was really too ugly and I didn't want to mess around plugging a monitor to a 15-hz card thingy so I took everything out and placed a Quad-Core PC with a monitor.

The joysticks are fully fonctionnal, the pic above is a bit old because two buttons have been added to the 1P/2P starts slots near the screen and they help with the "PC managment" of the cabinet (ESC button, Alt-F4, etc...)

The modification that I'm proud the most is the inclusion of a power button beneath the white buttons and above the coin slots. With that, I can turn on/off the cab with a single button press and use a wireless keyboard/mouse pad to start the game. On the pic above, you can see that the right door is opened for me to turn on the PC. with that modification, that door is closed for good.

(On the picture is my 2y old son playing Sonic Fan Remix which plays wonderfully on the cabinet)

I have still some cosmetics modifications to make but it's mostly functionnal to play and having fun!

I've always wanted to make a "Steam Box". An arcade cabinet with embedded PC that uses Steam (and in the future, Big Picture Mode) and whose arcade controller setup is mappable to keys or an Xbox 360 controller via Joy2Key/x360ce. I'm just imagining, like, Mirror's Edge on an arcade machine. So cool.

Have been reading so much praise about this game on Shmups.com, I had to jump on it as soon as one came up for sale. Definitely deserves the hype - scoring and survival system is very deep. It really makes you rethink the way you normally play shooters.

Posted about it here - it's SO much nicer than the Genny version, and if you're a Toaplan fan like me, this is in the top 3 in the catalog.

My first CAVE board! I always liked Espagaluda on the 360 - but this game beats it because it doesn't have any of that gender-switching nonsense. I miss the "medal vacuum" technique of Galuda and Futari, but it still has a cool scoring mechanic and the levels are fantastic. Shocked it never got a reboot on 360 - it deserves it.

Sort of a rare board that I picked up - some really nice graphics, and awesome sound/voice effects - but overall I'm not a fan of polygonal graphics in my cabinet Great game, but with all the boards I picked up lately, I think I may sell this one.

Last but not here yet: Super Contra! I'll report back once I receive it and put some play time in, but I loved the arcade when I was a kid. The 360 port doesn't do it justice.

I only have one JAMMA board - Data East Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja. I think one of the ROMs may be damaged but do have an EEPROM burner if it ever comes down to getting it replaced.

Will need a cabinet first. There was a very old bowling game that used a trackball at the town recycling- it powered up and worked, but just couldn't justify dragging it home. I don't think it was Capcom Bowling, looked earlier than 1988.

I grew up in Weston-Super-Mare which had some of the best arcades in the UK, and spent nearly every weekend there from 85 to 91.

I will be getting a pinball table at some point - missed out on a TMNT table about 10 years ago for £100 on ebay.

if you're a Toaplan fan like me, this is in the top 3 in the catalog.

Cool, another Toaplan enthusiast. They really did the old arcade shooters better than anyone else. I only own three of their games: Tatsujin (JP version), Same! Same! Same! (JP version), and Sky Shark (US version). I rank Tatsujin as my favorite. It's tough, but balanced just right to not be too infuriating. Lots of variety too, I like that.

Same! Same! Same! is great, too, but I actually find it almost intolerably hard. The "no fire" zone around your plane is way too small and you move quite slow, so even two or three enemies can completely pin you to one side of the screen. This doesn't happen in Tatsujin. Also the scoring system rewards you big time for not using bombs-- i've never liked that, feels counter intuitive. You gain more lives by NOT using bombs, but using bombs can save your life. I get the idea behind it, but it demands too much perfection. I guess I would recommend it if you want the ultimate challenge. I truly cannot think of a more difficult shooter.

Anyway, I hope to one day own Dogyuun and Outzone. From my MAME experience they're my favorite after Tatsujin. I really wanted to like Tatsujin Ou more, but it just feels flat compared to the original-- still good, though.

Out of all the Toaplan games, Dogyuun is still my favorite shooter. It's like Truxton, but feels more balanced, and has better variety. Level 3 turns into a high speed run collecting medals for bonus points, Bosses range from a street cleaner to a flying golden robot, and then there's the strange co-op transformation...

Outzone is another great one - it lacks the character/weapon variety of it's sequel Fixeight, but it's better balanced and it's music is someone of the best Toaplan has ever put out. Both are great games, but I give the edge to Outzone.

I have yet to play Toaplan's later games like Batsugun and V5 - really curious to how they hold up against their best.

Sorry for the necro, I can't post new threads so tried to find one that was as appropriate as possible and fairly recent.

I'd like to line the top of my basement (like a crown molding) with vintage arcade marquees, back lit with a LED strip or something. I was wondering if anyone had a decent, reputable source for vintage marquees at reasonable prices they'd be able to share. Tons on eBay, but... you know.

Also, why the heck isn't there a coffee table book of arcade marquee / cabinet / side art?! I'd buy one in an instant.
