Arcade games that should have come to consoles, but didn't

Lucky and Wild was damn fun. Shame about the name. It's come up more than once in that "games you remember, names you don't" thread - people just remember it as "that arcade game where one person drives and the other shoots."

When I got no results for Ctrl+F "Wrestle" I began to wonder if Wrestlefest actually came out on consoles or it wasn't as fondly remembered as I thought. Then I saw the graphic. Whew!

Came to post this. The best Golden Axe game.

Game Dungeon fan ? Just curious.

Anyway the game that should have been into consoles is Planet harriers, I mean WTH SEGA ?!

I've never heard of this game. I'm definitely going to look it up after work. It looks awesome!

EDIT: I think you mean Ross' Game Dungeon, right? Apparently I saw images for a Diablo Clone that was released on PSN (still looks good). I'll take a further look at that tonight. Thanks again!

Seriously Sega. VC1 and 2 on the Sega Saturn and this doesn't get a home port? I waited the entire life of the original Xbox hoping this game would get a port.

The bullet time mechanic was awesome. Loved this game in the arcades.

It was also the last good traditional light gun shooter.

I'd love to see would be Battletoads arcade get ported, along with a complete, modern release of the Raizing STG games.

Raizing:
Mahou Daisakusen
Shippu Mahou Daisakusen: Kingdom Grand Prix
Soukyuugurentai
Battle Garegga
Armed Police Batrider
Battle Bakraid
Great Mahou Daisakusen
1944: The Loop Master
Brave Blade

Only Shippu Mahou Daisakusen, Soukyuugurentai, and Battle Garegga saw console ports, which were all Japan-only, Saturn-only releases. Good luck picking those up today ($$$).

An arcade-faithful version of Donkey Kong 1.
Oh god this too.

This was on console......

I'm guessing he's referring to the fact that none of the console ports of Primal Rage were perfect arcade ports. Depending on the port they're missing animations, they have sprites of varying quality, and/or they have different sound effects.

It was also the last good traditional light gun shooter.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Operation GHOST (basically Ghost Squad 2) is another example of a really solid light gun game that never came to consoles, and it only came out a couple years ago.

Most of the others I would've mentioned have already been brought up in this thread. AvP Arcade, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, Lost World, Star Wars Trilogy Arcade.

It boggles the mind that this didn't come to the SNES. It even ran on similar arcade hardware.

But they did had a bizarre version. I dont know if its a capcom game, and i dont even know if that was possible

But its terrible. Its nothing like the arcade

Because the arcade game was great. It still feels somehow different from anything,
And it was bloody! The attract mode was enough to scare me

There was a 32X port apparently in the works before the 32X got canned.

There was a planned Bubsy 3D port for the 32x? That would've been so painful. But this list fails to mention a lot of cancelled games for the 32x, Castlevania: SOTN was originally planed for the 32x but was moved to the Playstation . There were also cancelled games like Nitrowrecks and that X-men game.

I forgot to mention that Ed Boon replied to one of my tweets saying "I'd love to see The Grid come to XBL/PSN if it's even possible!"

His words: "It IS possible!"

Take that as you may. I'll hope for the best.

It is possible because Warner Bros. has the entire Midway/ Williams catalog along with the entire Atari Games (Atari arcade division) catalog. It make me wonder if they could take a second shot at making a new Midway Arcade Treasures for current gen consoles and PC?

Though I would also like to see WB make a new Smash TV, since they have the rights to that too. WB is actually sitting on a goldmine of classic arcade IP's.

The arcade version of Punch-Out!! should have been remade or ported to DS or 3DS and made use of the two screens. Now that I'm thinking about it, why has there never been a portable version of that series?

I'd also like a faithful port of the first Double Dragon. The one that was on Xbox Live was not good.

I never understood why Wrestlefest was never ported to a home console either.

I second Polybius and will add the following:

Major Havoc
I, Robot
Peter Packrat
Road Runner (I know the 2600 is loosely based on it, but I want a great version)
Baby Pacman

Case in point:
cover_large.jpg

All sprites were made smaller, with less detail. Along with tons of missing frames of animation. Music was downsampled. And of course, suffered massive slowdown from menu to menu, and round to round. While it's a technical marvel it's on there in the first place, it's still not ideal.

Every time this topic is created again, I invariably give the same answer. We're on page 2 and no mention of Scud Race. There, fixed.

I wonder how much one of these go for and if it's easy to find...

Generally between $300 - $600 depending on the quality of the cab for a single (non-twin) unit, I'd say. I've seen them for sale before. It's not especially common, but if you were interested enough and willing to pay for it (shipping will hurt), you could get one without too much hassle.

It boggles the mind that this didn't come to the SNES. It even ran on similar arcade hardware.

From what I understand, the lack of a port was mostly due to the twilight between 16 and 32 bit generations. It was too hardware demanding to adequately port to the SNES, and sidescrollers on the 32 bit consoles were kind of seen as inferior to 3D which was all the rage at the time, and thus were considered poor investments.

one of my favorite arcade games
progear

own the board, but I'd rather deal with a console port than replacing a suicide battery tbh.

I really wish i could play this

but not a home port

Agreed. I would take a home port, but, it sure wouldn't be the same. I played it when I was in Japan a couple years ago. It's every bit as fun as it looks.

There is a PC port being released, but I doubt it ever gets localized.

19XX and 1944: The Loop Master. All those Capcom collections yet these are ignored (as far as I know). They would be so fun as downloadable titles.
