Arcania: Gothic 4 demo out

Runs good on my laptop but I hate the control, hope there is an xbox demo soon. I'd be getting it for the 360 if I buy it.

Are there any other mirrors (or a torrent) for the demo? The first link is dead, and the other one is extremely slow.

Might be one of those game that are much more impressive in action, rather than screens, like STALKER or RE4. The screens (except for DennisK4's) don't look like anything special to me either.

I used utorrent to download the client. Fast and furious.

The game runs fine on quad-core and 5770. All high, 1360*768.

It's strangely soothing.

If only there was a way to search all of the internet for videos of the game in question. Oh well! I can always make knee jerk reactions of screen shots while completely ignoring logic and reason!

Seriously though, Risen is one of the best looking RPGs to date. This looks no different. I honestly want to know what games besides Stalker and Crysis you people are playing that have more lush looking environments.

The textures IMO are just atrocious (at least from the pictures). It just looks so... lifeless.

Even in Dennis' shots? Textures look actually good there.

They look better than some others most definitely. Something just seems off visually. Like many of the objects are just hanging in air or like they've just been pasted on top of the background instead of fitting into the environment.

Well if it's the same engine(s) as Risen (and all signs point to that being the case) then I assure you it will produce some the best graphics you can find on PC. Not just because of the way it looks (I can think of several games that look superior) but the performance level versus appearance. Risen was a masterfully optimized gaming experience.

You really have to play Risen to appreciate it, so I'm expecting the same with this game. I'm excited to give the game a whirl, but if it suffers from the same stammering issues that Gothic 3 had (specifically optimization) then I think I'll pass.

Also I wouldn't even touch these games on console. Exploring the lush environs is half the fun and console rendering doesn't do that aspect justice.

This is definitely not the Risen engine; this one looks better (albeit it doesn't seem to have the cool lighting effects from Risen), but it runs much more poorly (at least on my PC). Maybe I should replace my 9800 GTX with the GTX 460 I have lying here next to me for two weeks now. :lol

It's a Asus g51jx-a1

Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 720QM (1.6GHz, 45W) with Turbo boost and 6M L3 Cache
6GB DDR3/1333MHz System Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM

You're like those people who run past loot. Irks me.

:lol

Am actually planning on building a completely new PC, therefore I've avoided stuffing the 460 into my current one (Core 2 Quad Q9450, 4 GB DDR2 etc., older components). But might jump the gun.

/end story of my life

i think i remember people saying theres no easy way to control PC risen with the 360 pad, because of the way the interface works.

There's quite a few Pinnacle Game Profiler profiles for it, probably worth looking, if it can work for The Witcher, I'm fairly sure it can do Risen.

Game has 360 pad support for those wondering (im trying it out with 1 right now, no third party programs needed).

Edit - Doesn't appear to be fully implemented yet though, cant navigate certain menus properly, not every button prompt changes either.

I liked the demo. Combat feels fluid. Even if it is light on plot, that doesn't really matter.

Woohoo, open-world exploration-heavy Euro-RPGs: Gothic 4, Two-Worlds II and then later we are going to get Risen 2.

And then we have a monster of an action-RPG in The Witcher 2.....

Next Elder Scrolls?

U like sci-fi? Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Mass Effect 3.

Goddamn, when will I find the time to play all these looooong PC RPGs......... :D

Demo was okay, combat was good, I'll probably pick the game up eventually. The world graphics are pretty good, but the character models are hideous.

I'm not sure I like the increasingly more 'realistic' style of graphics we're getting in games today, and this just highlights it. Takes me out of the feeling of 'being in a different' world, and almost looks like he's exploring some undeveloped country.

Its medieval fantasy.....not enough hovercrafts?

Its a matter of preference - I love realistic graphics.
Can't wait till I one day can explore a photorealistic forest filled with dangerous monsters. CryEngine 8?

Just completed the demo, and for the first time in ages i said to myself "No ! Dont end now !"

Really enjoyed it, love the loading-free exploration, combat was enjoyable, and the graphics (especially in the cave with the lighting/shadow effects) were damn nice. So very tempted to get this.

Well, I only had time to get a feeling of the games graphics and overall presentation, and those aspects of the game didn´t impress me at all.

*The voices and dialogues were quite bad.
*Odd animations.
*Generic graphical design.
*Generic music.
*I didn´t like the interface. It fel very....what´s the best word.....rough.
*It didn´t feel very optimized. First time this year that I had to lower the graphical settings in a game on my computer. My monitor has 1920x1080 as native resolution, but even on medium settings it was quite a bit from any steady 30 fps.

I had nowhere near enough time to get a feeling of how well the game mechanics worked, but it didn´t feel like a game that I want to explore any further.

Drakensang was getting an expansion too wasn't it?

So I just killed those two goblins near the smuggler's boat and then decided to go through that narrow opening between the rocks on the east side of the beach only to find myself stuck.

Loaded my save game and went there again, it seems that the game tries to push you away from entering, but I was able to go inside at least 5 times. Ten minutes into the demo and I encounter a glitch!? Here's how the situation looks like:-

Facial animations adnd character models are hilarious. The game looks good when you stand still though:-

Did the new Drakensang game even come out in English?

Also screw the haters, I am getting the complete version of Divinity 2: Ego Draconis (Divinity II - The Dragon Knight Saga) when it comes out in october. Open-world RPGs for life!

That's the one I was thinking of. Hopefully I notice when it's released, these games are easy to miss around here.

Can you play as a female in the demo or full version?

Not at all? I don't think you could do that in the Gothic games (at least not the first 2).

Runs pretty good for me, 30+ to 45fps at 1080p with everything max/ultra, Looks better than the pictures (expected that), the jumping around is fun (always was great fun to abuse that system in Gothic, you could jump further than Olympians), but I didn't play enough for it to get real interesting, was disappointed the harder difficulties weren't enabled.

This is easily more entertaining than Risen, IMO. I may pick this up. Combat (which is kinda huge in these games) feels much more polished than the previous Gothics and Risen.

Voice Acting was just downright silly, though. That one blacksmith had me laughing with how bad his voicing was.

Game engine is weird it has like weird dithering and aliasing. Almost looks like some stuff is being rendered at a lower resolution.

So far I like the combat but they need to give better feedback on attacks. Europe mode doesn't burn out my retinas, the ingame color calibration is pretty good. Day night transitions look great with the long shadows.

Game runs with everything on high at a steady 30 fps @1080p. The main character tho looks emo as fuck. I wishes tho they tuned the game harder like risen where the first creatures you meet could kill you easily.

Wow, I'm now really excited for this game.

It runs great on my machine, and looks fantastic. I'm having trouble believing that it is a Euro-RPG considering how smooth and polished it feels. The interface is super-responsive and makes sense, the animation is good enough to not feel choppy in combat, and the combat itself is actually pretty fun.

The game has some pretty amazing graphics, and it even looks better than Risen in a lot of areas, which is impressive in my book.

My only complaints are that the voice acting is awful and the overall English translation doesn't seem all that great, and that there seems to be a bit less freedom than in Gothic and Risen. Not being able to swim hurts, and I encountered an invisible wall early on in the demo. It also doesn't seem like you can attack friendly NPCs. It was fun sticking a guy full of arrows, but I kind of want him to react. I like to have the option to slaughter towns and lose quests.

My complaints are minor, though, and this looks like it will provide a grand Euro-RPG adventure, without the jank that we usually have to endure. I am definitely going to be picking this up on Steam. I can't wait for October 18th!

j/k, game looks good

360 demo is out now in europe (maybe worldwide). it looks ok but the framerate is a godawful, the water looks bad and when you talk to people there is a weird effect in the background (looks like the background is rendered in 240p).
