Are gaming chairs worth their price?

Went to a Melee tournament the other day and boom, Counter-Strike players in the back with ridiculously lavish chairs that had cost upwards of $500, lol.

Are these things actually useful beyond your average office chair or is it just for show?

You can get a pretty comfortable chair for less. I only own one because my wife bought it for me last Christmas.

Gaming forums will tell you to buy expensive office chairs cheap on Craigslist.

I bought a Vertagear gaming chair and I like it better than any Herman Miller chair I have had.

I have a DXRACER KING, It's definitely higher grade, but it doesn't do anything special for you except give you support and look bad a**. A decent office chair will give you the same support but doesn't give you the sex appeal.

A good chair is a worthwhile investment. I spent almost $1,000 on a Leap about 10 years ago. It's still rock solid, still incredibly comfortable and supportive, and imo still quite attractive.

How long have you had the Vertagear?

In my experience, gaming chairs are quite comfortable to start, but aren't reliable long term. For me, 2-3 years after was the time they needed to be replaced because the foam or whatever was staying compressed and it was no longer comfortable. To some people that's fine, or maybe there's a company which can do better I haven't tried, but that's why as someone who currently has a gaming chair, I still think it would have been better money spent if I would have just gotten a damn good office chair. It probably won't have the feeling of you sinking into the chair, but they're usually much better at good support and customizing the chair to get an exact fit for you.

I've had Maxonomic (they sponsor DOTA tournaments and maybe some streamers?) for 2 years now and no complaints here.
Not sure if I would pay 500 for any chair, this was 250 and so far it has outlived anything from Ikea.

Anytime a brand adds a qualifier term to a product, expect the price to go up. A gamer mouse, a gamer mousepad, a gamer keyboard, a gamer screen, a gamer laptop. Alienware and Razer are successful because of that.

So my answer is: you can probably find as confortable a chair without the gamer word in it, and for much less.

I guess that good chairs are worth their price.

I don't have a gaming chair simply because I bought a pretty expensive office chair for half its price on sale. Real leather and everything.

But I hear they're pretty good.

The IKEA Markus is a super legit desk chair though for its price.

Only had their cheaper ones, and the leather usually peels off after year so I got this for change of pace.
I've only heard good about the Markus and even my brother has one, definitely worth every penny. They give it 10 year warranty here so guess that shows how confident they are in the product. If my Maxonomic ever breaks I'm going for Markus.

Fantastic

Herman Miller Aeron is a classic also. There are so many of them out there you can probably get a used one at a great price.

Aeron is a classic. As someone who works about 35 hours a week at home, if I had to redo my setup the first purchases would be an Aeron and mechanical keyboard It's so much more comfortable than trying to sit on a shit chair for hours on end hammering on a mush keyboard.

Also GOAT living room chair for console gaming:
