Are iPads still the best tablets for comics?

I'm so tempted by the 12.9 iPad pro, but its only 2 inches bigger than my android one for £600 more

Standard US comic ratio is 1.53
- This is right in the middle between 4:3 (1.33) and 16:9 (1.78). 16:10 (1.6) is clearly the best match but if you want to go blind reading double page spreads on a 10" tablet be my guest. I doubt anyone else would tolerate that.

Shrinking what should be 10" comic pages to 5" and having 2 to a page is just a terrible way to read comics.

This!

Galaxy Tab S (1, not 2), which is higher res than iPad, bigger screened and has the 16:10 ratio that Fusebox describes is god tier for comics. The bezels are big enough to hold without being too big. You get much more usable space for portrait pages, which is what the majority of comics reading entails.

I know people like their iPads, but it seems akin to denying math to argue that 4:3 is better than 16:10 when the latter is mathematically closer to the proportions of actual comics. The rare cases of switching to landscape should not be significant enough to sway anyone, but even if they were the Tab S still has a larger and sharper screen (10.5 vs. 9.7). OLED is great for comics as well.

My sister in law got the pro for Christmas. It's the best if you really, really care about comics. In fact its one of the few good uses for the thing!

Any android comic viewer apps that'll automatically rotate the pages to landscape if it's a double page spread?

Winds me up when I don't realize in portrait mode and spoil something/read something out of order

Hopefully MS improve battery life of the tablet portion of the SB 2. Even then I'm gonna hold on to my Pro 4.

They might but it's unlikely to change as a proportion of overall battery life, an increase in the top will most likely come as part of an overall increase in battery tech or power efficiency of the chips. The bottom half needs to be slightly heavier than the top in order for the design to work. It's already a bit more top heavy than would be strictly ideal, if anything they'd love to make the top even lighter in comparison to the bottom.

Bought a Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) with FullHD and I can say it's way better for reading comics than my iPad Air with 9.7 inches. It doesn't seem much on paper but the difference is there and the 16:10 and 10.1'' size fits the comic format better. The iPad is the overall better device but it's not the best for reading comics imho. The 2016 Tab A has also I huge battery which seems to hold it's charge forever. I used it daily for a few hours (reading comics mostly duh!) and I could use it for over 3.5 days without charging.

Interesting. I'm looking for a new tablet since my old Nook HD+ is getting too slow. I was thinking about getting an iPad Air 2, but maybe it a bit too pricey for my needs. How's internet browsing and video playing on that Samsung? Is the build quality ok? What do you miss from the iPad? Also, have you tried rooting it?
Sorry for the many questions :P

I'm still digging my iPad Pro (12.9) and the only thing I can imagine being better is having the 256GB version. I got the 128 when it first released and it's great, but I'd love to recklessly download entire runs of any comic I'd like without worrying about running out of space. Next time I replace this, 256GB it'll be.

Surface book clipboard is amazing for comics with its screen and light weight (for its 13.5" size), the problem is you need to be networked at all times to use comixology because they abandoned the windows app.

I have a 2015 Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE (SGP771). I can vouch for its battery capabilities, which still exceeds ~110hrs/charge to this day. (Continuous 5Ghz wireless AC at home/office and sporadic LTE usage whilst on the road). Has the resolution of 2560x1600 pixels (although it's only an IPS LCD), and obviously has an SD card slot for all your media files.

I read my manga on this and it is superb. I'm really glad I splurged for the LTE version since it is practically faster than my home internet (Australian ADSL is rubbish) to download from Amazon or stream from Crunchy, or whatever.

I used ComicRack personally, and I can confirm it does auto-rotate double page spreads.
