Are there any companies you actively avoid/boycott?

I don't know how much that counts as a boycott since I don't really like their product anyway, but Coca-Cola.
... No, it's definitely a boycott on my part. I drank it once or twice as a kid, decided not to push it further lest I grow a liking to it, and never made an exception ever since. Shit's just too bad for your health.

Apple
EA
Beats by Dre

You're in luck: Beats by Dre is now owned by Apple. Two boycotts, rolled into one!

Fair enough. I love my MacBook Air and iPhone 6. If the music software I use was available on Mac I'd probably never buy a Windows machine again since for me Apple stuff just feels more streamlined and intuitive. I use Windows PCs at work though so they'd be impossible to avoid.

What music software are we talking about cause music software is the number one reason I'm on a mac lol.

On topic:
Samsung
Fast food companies
And I guess a lot of meat producing companies since I don't eat meat.

I don't boycott anything. It's too hard to keep track of who I should be pissed off at, and it's almost always going to be governed by media coverage rather than earnest personal investigation.

That said, there's probably a ton of companies I don't particularly like, and I'll buy someone else's products given the choice between the two and both being similar.

I don't boycott any brand or store. Every organization has done or is doing shady things. But what I do try to do is limit what I purchase. I try not to buy or purchase from:

Wal-Mart
Ubisoft
Chinese Knock Offs

That's all I can really think off right now.

Sony Acid. They don't make a Mac version and it seems they have discontinued making the software. I'm slowly getting into Ableton but the two are a lot different in many ways.

I actively avoid

  • McDonalds
  • Apple
  • Beats by Dre

I do try* and avoid using

  • Amazon
  • GAME

*By try, that's try and get something elsewhere, but if it's only on their sites/stores i'll buy it. GAME are a curse, they destroyed Gameplay years ago and they shut down Gamestation after their buy-out (i loved Gamestation, the staff were excellent and they knew how to treat the customers right)

Amazon, well i just don't like them much these days. Consistently trying to get me to buy Prime, which i don't want.

What does virtually disintegrated screen mean? Also, why did you leave us on a cliffhanger with regard to your other reasons for boycotting Apple.

I guess I shouldn't have exaggerated so much. I'm simply talking about how fragile the screens seem to be, even from the smallest drops. I've had many friends who finally buy a new iPhone to get rid of their old one with a cracked screen, and then crack the new one a week later.

As someone else in the thread said, I have a problem with Apple's focus on brand and image. It's not my cup of tea. Not to mention the price of their products and how proprietary they make all their accessories just to make more money.

What's the reason for Ubisoft?

What's the reason for Ubisoft?

Well its not because they are shady. Lol I have just been burnt too many times by their games. After AC3, FC4, and Unity I got tired of the same old rinse and repeat ubisoft formula, I refuse to buy another game from them unless its multiplayer and my friends beg me.

Apple.

The number of iPhones I've seen with virtually disintegrated screens stuns me, but that's not my only reason.

I've seen a lot of banged up cars too. And it had nothing to do with their quality.

What a baffling post.

For me, it's KFC. It's too greasy and I've heard too many yucky stories.

I try to stay away from Walmart if I can.

Apple.

One day, an Apple engineer made a seemingly minor change to iOS. This minor change had a major effect on my software, killed my company and lost 4 people their livelihoods. I know that none of this was done with any malicious intent, but I'm certainly not giving Apple any more monies.
I would love to hear more about this.

Apple - mainly to do with how much I hate dealing with iTunes.

It's also so automated anytime I try to do something the way I'd like to but everything seems like a massive shitfight.

I am actively boycotting all mobile gaming developers creating games with shit loads of IAP.
I don't buy or download anything from Gameloft, Zynga, Superdrill etc.
Their games being awful also helps.

Chic Fil A

Just because they don't publicize the fact that they are funding anti-gay groups, doesn't mean that they aren't anymore.

Game - their staff are actually incompetent, i am almost convinced they purposely pick people who are useless.

Oh and the Sun newspaper - #dontbuythesun

I don't actively boycott anything but I try to avoid some places, such as any company that spreads anti-gmo bullshit, any company that supports the republican party financially, and anyone that does business in countries that abuse it's workers like China or Qatar.
But I am not naive enough to think I can avoid all those places so I just do by best and understand that I won't always be able to avoid giving my money to these places.

I have Windows licence that was provided to me by my university, and all I do on my PC these days is play games.
But that pretty much as far as I go when it comes to MS products.

Their endless insistence on pissing in my ear and telling me that it's raining, while trying to sell me an umbrella is what makes me want to avoid their stuff out of sheer spite. Not touching their Windows Store with a 10m pole.

I try to avoid Nestle. Sometimes I'll buy something from them without noticing until it's too late because it's from another brand that they own (the Nestle logo will be small somewhere on the back of the packaging in that case). At the same time I don't lose any sleep over it and it's not like I refuse Kit Kats I'm given you know.

On a side note, anyone know what's so incredibly wrong with H&M? I never looked into it but one of my professors always enjoyed slagging them off when it was relevant to some kind of business ethics topic.

Nestle because they were selling Maggi noodles which had an abnormally high lead content. I don't want anything to do with this fraudulent company.

Gamestop. I just don't like the layout of their stores, and I don't like the practice of selling opened games as brand new.

Israeli products.

I'll never give Wendy's any of my money again. I've gotten shitty service from at least 8 different locations in my state. Multiple incidents at the same locations as well.

Couple of restaurants in Toronto. I've gotten really bad service so I usually don't go back. I kind of actively try to avoid eating out anyways, if I do it's usually at a fast-food chain

I'm not asking for much, just some respect with my order. Seems like because you are a young black guy, people will treat you with disrespect. Last time I was at a restaurant with my cousin(admittedly dressing kind of wacky lol). Still the waiter treats us in the most disrespectful manner and then treats the two middle aged white ladies in an extremely friendly manner. This was at a Caribbean joint too... I have a couple of other stories but maybe another day.

I know the stereotype is that black people don't tip. You have to wonder if these waiters go in with said stereotype in mind and use it as validation for the treatment of customers of said group. Resulting in bad service, and many are not going to tip on bad service. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

Super cheap clothes. Imagine how that is possible. It requires both exploitation of workers as well as nature.

Not that most clothing companies are all that much better. It's hard to be an activist, poor and in need of clothes. -_-

There's a few car brands I avoid. I also avoid cheap TV's and other electronics.

I don't actively boycott them though. I'd purchase their products if they were better. I don't think I boycott any company, really.

Coca-Cola because they are free masonic
and support the Israeli terrorism

I avoid coke too, but for reasons other than what you listed. They supported Apartheid and are extremely anti-union. It's what led to many universities banning their products from being sold on campuses. They've also been implicate in using threat and coercion to silence workers.

I avoid EA because of the lack of content and dlc madness.
Currently I am also according ubisoft because of their copy paste games but I might give a game of theirs a chance if I felt it was different enough for me.
Those 2 are the only companies I actively avoid.
Some companies like apple, most cloth brands and a few others I "avoid" because of cheaper alternatives

Walgreens. Had two good friends that were managers of stores and both had worked within the company for 24 years. Somehow, both of them were let go because of absurd technicalities before they could hit 25 years. Well, that and their fucking rewards card. Fuck any place that forces me to have a card to get a sale price.
