Are there any non-peripheral rhythm games this gen?

Beats on PSN/PSP

Nice little game that lets you use any MP3 and turns it into a nice music game. Very cool and very cheap, like 5 bucks or less cheap.

It's pretty cool. The main problem is that some songs don't synchronize very well, but the ones that do are so much fun.

No love for Rock Band Unplugged (PSP)? Sadface.

Wii Music is great, but it's not really a rhythm game (though you could counter-argue that it's just as strict if not more so with the timing required to make a decent-sounding song).

Ouendan and its sequel and Elite Beat Agents, of course.

Rhythm Tengoku >>> Rhythm Heaven, too.

And 'strengths' is the longest word in the English language with just one syllable.

Does Space Channel 5 for the DC count? It was released 2000. :P

Play this now. Its like the "Flower" version of a music game. Not rhythm so much, but it deserves a mention.
Thank you for this. It is wonderful. Though I am not entirely sure on your 'Flower' reference.

The Wii version of Guitar Hero 3 lets you play the game with just the remote, not sure why you would want to do that or if the other versions have similar features though.
Yeah GH 1-3 lets you use your regular controllers (for all systems). It actually works pretty well with a DS2.

DJ Max Portable for the PSP. :D I love the DJ Max Portable games. Check them out. They're worth your time. Also, Rock Band Unplugged is peripheral-less as well, along with Rock Band iPhone & Lego Rock Band DS. Can't stress enough Elite Beat Agents & the Ouendan games. Both are excellent.

As for the PC side of things, Audiosurf where you get to jam out to your songs. Oh yeah, I also just remembered Phase for the iPod. You get to use your own music for that game too.

If so, I raise Unison

I agree that Wii Music is not a rythm game, but rather a creative game.

What was the name of the rythm game on DS with platforming ideas that were released a couple of weeks ago?

Maestro! Jump in Music.

I think it only came out in mainland Europe though, I've not seen any copies in the UK. The print run was very, very limited, I think.

Wii Music is good if you've got the chops for it.

Anyway, unfortunately, Taiko No Tatsujin on Wii doesn't have an "air drumming" mode, so the DS version is the one to opt for to remain peripheral free.

Obviously, because we're just going off the reservation anyway, just get Rhythm Heaven, it's too awesome. (EBA/Ouendan are great too, but RH is in another galaxy)

Considering that was at least one generation ago, arguably two, that's almost certainly a no...

Also 0 Beat Drop for XBLA fits that bill

Not quite, but on a technicality: "Rhythms"

"Strengths" is the longest English word with only one vowel.

On topic, there's that PSP port of Gitaroo Man, but that's a gen-bender I suppose.

EDIT: Would Space Invaders Extreme/Infinity Gene count? Not strictly rhythm-based but they sure do a lot of crazy stuff with sound and music integration.

What about "Phase" that ipod game Harmonix put out. That was this gen right?

Also Groov on the comunity games section. Oh and Electroplankton, and Jam Sesion and that Hannah Montanna game all on the DS...

Why are so many people bringing up handheld titles when the OP specifically isn't looking for those?
