Are these ingame XMB videos real?

There are only so many people in position to supposedly run Bioshock on PS3...

Fake total.

The guy who took the vids is a dev actually working on BioShock PS3. Believe.

Video and PSN tabs are visible for the in-game version of the XMB? Interesting. I assumed anything that couldn't be done simply wouldn't appear (that's the elegance of the XMB, it's completely modular like that) but perhaps they'll be greyed out, or we'll get a message saying 'this cannot be selected during gameplay' in a similar vein to the message one gets while trying to start a noncompatible game during Remote Play.

I'm not going to even bother hoping that we can watch our videos while a game is running.

Guys wow, the bioshock image doesn't tell about the XMB being legit or not.

It could be a wallpaper.

Nah, wallpapers don't move;)

Also, if you noticed the video icon in the XMB is empty. Either, he's got no videos or they aren't accessible in "IN GAME XMB", which is what it is. It's totally really real, as Jim just mentioned.

TakeTwo writes the name of the game as BioShock, not Bioshock. Just throwing that out there.

Yep... more or less. Most things are visible, but only certain ones will be functional, a la remote play.

And yeah, clock, finally!

It's certainly not wallpaper, unless Sony added animated backgrounds. Watch the 'Bioshock' logo it's in motion with the light reflecting off the letters.

Thats the thing, if he whanted to fool us, why did he use Bioshock?
Maybe someone recorded while ago before leak. Maybe trying to boost three times - in-game XMB, Trophy and Bioshock PS3. But I might be wrong cos I heard 2.4 SDK arrived not while ago.

Jeez time and date on xmb would be nice... really never understood why it wasn't there from the start. Once again I add to the question, why always a shitty camera, and a shitty SDTV. Either way if it's true it looks like music will work in game, because he went over the music section and it began to load... while video just won't work.

I know it's blurry and moving fast, but can anyone with a knowledge of German translate some of the text in the Games tab? I think I can see a Quit icon, just wondering what else is there (like 'shut down console, shut down controller' and the other options we currently get when we hit the PS button during a game).

My guess is that there'll just be a 'quit' icon there, and that we'll tap the PS button for the XMB, hold it for the options to shut down the console/controller (since we'll probably still hold it to bring up those options browsing the regular XMB).

Is the in-game XMB going to extend to things other than PS3 games? PSX, PS2, DVD, BRD? I hope so for consistency's sake but I can understand why it wouldn't, yet.

The important thing about achievements in the 360 is that you can check your friend's achievements out.

Will we be able to check our friend's trophies?

I'll be getting the PS3 version for the trophies..............

yeah that's just as annoying sounding.

That is why the guy runs it on a SDTV. One more poor rushed port. They do not even do more than 480p.

Hmm it also shows all the profiles/user names load up too. Looks like you might be able to switch profiles in-game if true. That would actually be very useful for certain games, such as online games, where in resistance I have two seperate names... a clan name, and just a regular name for the hell of it.

So it looks like if these videos are true, most of the XMB will be functional except for the video section, which probably will be added in the future. I'm pretty excited about the trophies... but I hope they add them to older games, at least the first party ones.

As for the peripheral.. ANYWAY.. writing messages on the pad is kinda time consuming.. it's a shame you have to stop playing and move to your keyboard to type isnt it.. la de dah.

hmm...

So are we to assume stuff that does show up is useable in-game?

Like..no videos showed up under that icon. Could be because there's no vids, but more likely because (obviously) vid playback doesn't work. Also noticed the web browser doesn't show up under the network icon.

So can we safely assume other things that do show up, work? Not that you can see much more from these vids..

As for trophies, all this gives away is that under the game icon is your trophy collection, and they'll be split by game, as you'd expect. Hopefully you can look at friends' via your friends list.

Yeah, I'm guessing something like the 360 chatpad add-on, he won't say though.
If only there were some way to communicate that didn't involve a visual medium. Perhaps between users playing different games even. It's on the tip of my tongue.

so all those folders were games... hmm makes sense. I wish there was some way we could read the damn text and see if any of the older games will have trophies.

It might be settable by the game. The way I see it, in-game XMB is "just" a multi-tasking mechanism that works with full games too -- like how Mac OS 7 used to do it cooperatively. That way, they can sidestep Microsoft's XBL patents since multitasking is a general concept.

In any case, if a game needs images, video or friends list access, they should already have existing APIs to use them in-game.

The sad thing is I can easily imagine somebody with a slim psp using TV-out and a custom theme trying to troll all of us.

[edit] Ah it's real, cheers then :D

Then why would the XMB be in German ?

He is Baron Ludwig von Shlornsenberger, a German-native and close friend of Ken Levine. 2k got him a work-related visa to live in the US while he developed the PS3 port of BioShock. He prefers his XMB in his native tongue.

so how will this work. with the trophies. Didn't they say people can also view friends or other people's trophies as well? How is it being sorted and shown. ;o
