Are unique rhythm games dying this gen?

If you have an android phone search out yobiosi. It's a Jubeat ripoff, and a little glitchy in the menu's but actually playing is awesome. ;)

So what are the chances of DDR X3 (Japan arcade only) getting a home console release (PS3/360?)?

No more of that Westernized Hottest Party bull fucking shit, please.

I will say this. The best original rhythm game in the last few years is easily Groove Coaster.

Freemium hooks add an unnecessary stink, but I feel a would have gladly paid full whack for DS or Dreamcast back in the heyday of quality original music games.

Really enjoyed this game:

Good luck finding it though. I must give my thanks to GAF for brining my attention to it and Gomu Gomu for actually sending me a link to it being on sale.

The DS really got me into rhythm games. Looking forward to Theatrhythm. Is Rhythm Thief recommended?

Not to mention other great iOS rhythm games such as Pulse, Cytus, Jukebeat and osu!stream. And Beat Sneak Bandit is an incredible puzzle game built on a rhythm foundation.

Just echoing the fact that Theatrhythm is spectacular, a superb rhythm game on its own and nostalgia fodder worthy of mantears if you're a lifelong FF fan.

Do be fair, the main focus in Patapon is essentially more of fighting and army management - the beats are just, well, commands.

DJMP2 and BlackSquare were the best rhythm games I've ever played.

Calling the entire series "mediocre crap" is objectively wrong.

Both DJ Max series are better than the Ouendan series, in the long run.

Arcade IIDX and Pop'n are king, though, and probably always will be.

I need more EBA or Ouendan in my life. Ouendan 2 is still the only game I've ever imported. I would actually contribute money to a kickstarter for that.

Played this a couple of weeks ago, I really enjoyed it. Nicely varied stages and play styles, like a Best Of Rhythm Games thing.

I saw this post and decided to see what this game was about and I'm pretty interested now lol.

There is a DSiWare version called Maestro! Green Groove but it only includes the first world of the retail game. That sucks. I would have bought it if it was a full game.

I've been collection dungeon crawlers for my DS but now (because of this thread) it's time I start a collection of rhythm games. Been a huge fan of rhythm games ever since I first stepped foot on a DDR machine back in 2002.

Would love to see a DDRX3 machine near me. That would make me start playing again. I'm just sad the stepcharts have become ass.

Seriously, who needs DDR when you have Stepmania?
Well, the last time I looked into using StepMania years ago, you could never get timing windows as good as the ones in the actual DDR releases. Also, I'd like Konami to bring more DDR releases home so that I can give them my money and show them that I'd like to buy them.

I really want DDR X3 vs. 2nd MIX to get a home port. And I hope they continue this. I want an HD remake of 4th Mix Plus. Badly.

Indeed, there are IOS and Android versions, is cheap, quite good, fun and polished, not so much songs though, similar to DJMax Technika.

To be honest, I have a hard time recommending Cytus in its current state - the judgement timing is tuned so easy that I can literally get a perfect score in most songs in the game while falling asleep. It's the only rhythm game in the iOS app store to have anyone achieve the highest possible score for every last song in the game - and not just one person did it, but at least 250.

They promised a judgement system overhaul in the next update, so I'm waiting to see if they really fix things. I'm not very optimistic though.

Hey,it´s just two bucks, maybe you are asking a little too much for that price :P

So, pricing your game low means poor game design should be excused? I appreciate the amount of support the developers are giving without even asking for IAP income but it doesn't change the fact that the game bores me to tears.

For a dollar more, you can get Groove Coaster, which has just as much content and has an honest judgement system that actually requires you to have rhythm. Great thing for a rhythm game to have.

You gotta search hard for it, but it's out there. It's definitely obscure. I hope in the future it gets more life in it, I definitely want not just rhythmic gameplay but also heavily music injected gameplay to flourish

I was working on an iphone app in the same vein as Ouendan but with our own dance music but it was too expensive to do properly. I guess people might have had the same ideas done but no idea how succesful they are. You gotta style and market it right if you want the iOS crowd to love  it

Relax dude, no need to get mad, not every single rhythm game needs to be ultra hard with a super strict judgement system to be enjoyable (or maybe you are a genious or something in bemani games) i was just saying that the game package as a whole (soundtrack, aesthetics, etc) is damn good for just 1.99... Could be better? of course it could, but come on, is not bad by any means

I kinda wish for more quirky rhythm games like Rhythm Fever or Ouendan.

Yes, because it is the same comparison....
At the customize level? Of course.
On every other level? No way.

That's because with every good beat makers you have those horrible ones. Much like in MUGEN.

You know, I originally wrote off DJ Max as a shameless Beatmania ripoff, but this past gen, Bemani has dropped the ball in terms of console releases. Check out DJ Max Technika if you think the original DJ Max was generic. It definitely changed my mind about DJ Max.
