Are you excited for Deus Ex 3?

I don't know much about the game (I've only played the first mission 3/4 of the way through), but something I'd like to know is, what is "Deus Ex Machina". I hear that a lot, and the best I can infer is its some kind of colossal mindfuck, but what does that idiom actually mean in the context of the game?

"While Deus Ex - was named after the trope, it does not really feature this trope, though it does feature a Deus Est Machina. "

Well I wouldnt think it'd be exclusive anyway, that'd be silly. But if the PC could open as lead before the console depth woodchipper came into play, that would have been lovely.

Oh...well. I guess in context of the game, it means nothing. I'm just dumb.
Deus Ex Machina: God From the Machine.
I assume the title refers ultimately to the choice you have to make at the end of the game, and which looms over the story throughout, as to how you wish to shape the future of the world, and to which faction you entrust the ultimate power. Of course IW makes your choice meaningless...

::Ed - Btw, a Deus Ex Machina is a plot device that suddenly pops up out of nowhere to solve a problem, resolve the story, save the day etc etc.

Before anyone calls me out for being a crazed console gamer, I'll point out I'm primarily a PC gamer here, it's just that you're going to get yourself very disappointed at this rate.
Yeah, denial, Egypt, et cetera. Not a chance in hell of any major game of this ilk being PC-exclusive.

Well...yeah.

"The cinematics—by which I mean any CGI pre-rendered cinematics — are going to be done in Tokyo by Square Enix, and that's going to be amazing."

At least we still have Thief 4, err, Thi4f right?

"The people in Tokyo are just so glad to work on it; this is the first project for them that's a non-Final Fantasy title— they even want to work on Thief 4 too, so everyone is really excited."

But how can there be a Deus Ex 3 when THERE WAS NO DEUS EX 2.

Seriously though I give this a 95% chance of sucking, especially given the news S-E are doing pre-rendered cinematic.

Nonsensical Japanese dev hate, goooo!

Deus Ex Machina does not mean colossal mindfuck. It's a narrative device first used in Greek theater, where god appears to tie up all loose ends at the last minute. Basically, everything is solved by "god from the machine" (the machine being the device that theater hands used to wheel the actor that played god from the ceiling down to the stage)

In DX, it's a tenuous link to the concept, but a "machine god" of sorts does kind of tie up everything very neatly.

It seems we got an update on the platform questions from earlier.

Deus Ex 3 has only been announced for the PC so far. However, new evidence suggests it will be released for consoles as well.

A production manager for Eidos Montreal lists the game as "Deus Ex 3 - Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC" on his LinkedIn profile. The same platforms are also mentioned in a senior software engineer's profile. The LinkedIn page of a production coordinator who started working at Eidos last month says the same, which seems to rule out the possibility that console iterations were cancelled along the way.

Eidos Montreal boss Stephane D'Astous stated in a recent interview that they wanted to make DX3 and "very attractive and accessible to a wider audience." That would seem to suggest these games are multiplatform. Still, they're being coy for now.

While we could argue that these three people just placed the wrong platforms on their resumes, I think I'll reiterate my previous statement about not setting yourself up for disappointment.

This marks the 2nd time the Deus Ex appears on either a Sony or Microsoft console, with DE1 having been ported to the PS2 and DE2 crapping up the OG Xbox. Facts!

I really enjoyed the DE port to the PS2

I keep thinking of those Warren Spector interviews where he mentions how much he'd like to get back into this franchise. No hype at all.

Given that I wasn't a fan of the first game. (So much so I missed out on the second which was apparently worse.) Umm, no actually I pretty much don't care.

The first one is the best game of all time

Would you go so far as to say "I could care less about Deus Ex 3"?

;)

Deus Ex 3 is going to be awful. No Spector, no sale.

DX2 was awful with Spector, even though he was in the background. He was talking up all the bullshit streamlining as if it were a good thing. "More sophisticated" he called it. :lol

I don't see what is "new" about this info. There were interviews from the days the game was first announced that stated the game was coming to PC and consoles. Anyway, is anyone delusional enough to have thoght this was going to be PC exclusive?
