Are you hyped for Aliens: Infestation? (DS)

Not really. It's essential to the way the game is designed. The Sulaco has 19 marines and WayForward wants you to feel each loss, trembling at every room in fear of losing another of your precious marines. They want you to actually run from aliens and shut down doors to get your character to safety. With more than one save file you could just reload the game and that would completely defeat it's purpose.

That coupled with a challenging difficulty and survival elements, like limited ammo, is the perfect way to match the Aliens atmosphere. I think it's a splendid idea and I can't wait to dive in the scary, brutal USS Sulaco.

so far so good..atmosphere is good so far sound effects are a bit hit and miss I guess, artwork and animation is great and fluid

music is great, game is brutal first enemy I encounter nearly takes all my marine's health, holy shit..

5 mins in and..
stupidly lost one of my marines, do'h restart havent saved so I got him back ;)

enemies seem to respawn when you re-enter locations could be annoying could add to the tension.

edit: playing this for an hour, ohh I can tell this is gonna be a great game, just dont go in all gun-ho, you will die, take your time plan your attacks..

Thanks SEGA for releasing this after all!

It's so good, everything you could want from a 2d Aliens game.

Everyone who misses Metroid on DS should buy this game!

Sounds like this is a better Colonial Marines game than, uh, Colonial Marines.

Pacing of this game is great some nice tense moment, lost a Marine got them replaced..

only issues I have is the swap to the Map/Weapons Screen, would be nice to have a reload button instead of having to switch, apart from that niggle game is great...needs more love if you got a DS get it, this game needs love. wonder if it will be sent to die though :(

Oh man, this game is great! WayForward nailed the Aliens vibe with this one. I picked it up because it's WayForward and I love me some Aliens and good 'ol sprite work. but I didn't know too much about the game. Turns out it's a Metroid-style game! It's pretty difficult too, which only adds to the tense atmosphere. Seriously, if you have any interest in Aliens or Metroid pick this up, it's really polished and well rounded. Challenging but very doable, looks great, sounds great and controls great.

Nope. Essential part of the design. If you didn't have one save you wouldn't be so careful about keeping your marines alive, knowing you could do so in your other save. If you lose one, you'll either have to revert to your previous save, or carry on knowing they're lost forever. It's a great mechanic.

Just lost a few of my Marines during a Boss encounter, game is Brutal..fuck but fun,

The game was so engrossing I didn't realise for a few seconds that the train had terminated at my stop lol.

^This, adds so much tension...one part I was low on health so thought "should I head on or back to the save room?", took the wrong choice and lost my Marine, only to find a new save room in the new area :(

I hope this game sells well...

I remember my first concern with this game from the first trailer was that they showed your character getting pinned down by an alien several times and you would have mash buttons to get away. From that trailer, it seemed like it happened very often and could be one of those things that really slows the game down. For the people that are playing it, have you noticed this happening a lot?

I was concerned about that too, but on play through tbh honest they only pin you if you don't react quickly enough (running, or blasting the fuck outta them)

most of the time you get breathing room to react accordingly, if it gets too hairy you may get pinned or face hugged, adds to the tension

Not at all, if it does happens it means you screwed up, but the game usually gives ample opportunity to get away and deal with the situation. Not that I didn't get swarmed a few times, but it doesn't bring the game down in any way.

http://zcint.co.uk/article/aliens-infestation-review

Infestation plays a lot like Contra, taking the form of a 2D run-‘n’-gun platformer.....I only wish there was more actual running and gunning involved,..... hampered by completely counter-intuitive level design and constant back-tracking to pick up access key cards and lanterns to access locked and dark areas. It doesn’t help that there are so many dead ends, and you’ll have to fight off the enemies in each area every time you come through again thanks to the respawning of foes.

Ultimately, Infestation is good for killing time, but poor combat and confusing levels make it a disappointing foray into the run’n’gun genre.

Aliens is all about survival against numerous enemies, the marines having to band together to fight their way out, outnumbered and low on ammo. remove the fear of death in the game and increase the ammo would take out so much tension in the game and weaken it..

It got a great 85% review in the German "M! Games" magazine. I wasn't aware of this game before the review (thought it was one of the games from the Team17 series), but now it is on my map. I'm very likely to buy it.
