Are you sick of remasters?

I'd honestly like to see more remasters to reinvigorate dead franchises.

I'd love for the Resistance series to get another chance.

Resistance 3 is one of my top 5 FPS from last gen but Sony treated it badly.

JStev, if you are reading this, MAKE THIS HAPPEN DAMMIT!

Just mix up the MP to go back to the original formula in RFoM with some of the modifications of R2 MP (join game, Co-Opp, game modes, weapons, etc), (we won't talk about the CoD R3....) then mix up the maps from all three games into that one MP mode... Come on, I want the text chat in the lobby and all!

No, remaster are a great way to get newcomers into the series without them having to track down an old copy that is out of print and doesn't go into the publisher's hand.

Plus some games like Majora's Mask got a second chance in the spotlight due to getting a remaster.

I'm sick of remasters being sold for $39.99 or fucking $59.99. A remaster shouldn't be higher than $19.99 or at the mos $24.99.

Y'all are working on existing assets, stop gouging customers.

Yeah it isn't as simple as that as they need to recode the game to get it to run on the new hardware, which can be tricky depending on what system the game originated from.

There is always a market for people who missed it last gen. Remember 90% of the market are not people like us who follow and anticipate titles.

It bothers me if it obstructs a studios work on new titles though.

I would if they are not releasing new games.

But they still do.

And noone is forcing anyone to buy remasters.

I haven't played that many of them, but the ones I've played have been great (except for Halo MCC). I'd love some more, honestly. Demon's Souls would be amazing, cause there's no way I'm ever playing it otherwise.

I only pay attention to the ones that interest me and recognise that each remastered title doesn't mean the loss of an original game, one-to-one.

Publishers need ways to have additional revenue streams for a huge investment and I don't have an issue with well-produced renasters.

I don't mind them at all. I would've never gotten to play TLOU if they didn't remaster it. Skyrim was one of my all time favorite games on 360, and I bought the remaster on PS4 to play through it again with all the DLC I missed out on. Remasters are more than welcome for me, if it's a game I never got to play or already love.

Now if they'd just make that Mass Effect trilogy remaster, I'll buy it day one no questions asked

Nah, but I am frequently let down by remaster choices and quality.

Yeah, I think so, too.

Also, some remasters gave me to option to optain them easier if they were banned in Germany. I'm not the biggest fan of retail importing, so getting Dead Rising 1 and Sleeping Dogs for PS4 via US PSN was a great thing.

I don't see issues with the price. Remasters drop in price really fast and if you waited so long to play them again you can wait few more months.

I love remasters. There's nothing wrong with enjoying old games more than some new games. What is possible is gaming kind of plateaued over the past 2 generations of consoles. I think it's similar to movies now. It's like buying blue rays of movies that came out 20 years ago. It's absolutely worth it.

No I'm using innovative technique of not buying stuff I don't care about.

And Wipeout Remaster is one of my most wanted 2017 games.

Nah. Worst case they're easy cash-ins that don't hurt anybody by existing, and best case they're exposing titles to a wider audience than they had before (Gravity Rush, etc).

No, because no one's making me buy them, and they aren't siphoning much, if any, core development time away from original titles, and because a number of them are needed/deserved.

Anyone else feeling fatigued?

Nope, I love them

I'm also not upset when old films previously only available on VHS are given Blu-Ray releases

I just don't buy the ones I'm not interested in

What is far more annoying is that there are still dozens, maybe even hundreds, of classic games stuck on ancient systems

Ask me again a year after the Switch releases and I might be. Seems like they might pad a good chunk of their schedule with ports from the Wii U. Great for the millions that didn't own a Wii U, but as someone who owns a Wii U and most 1st party titles, I only desire a few very specific ports.

As for PC / PS4, I don't mind. The release of the remasters has been slow enough and mixed in with other content. Sure, I'd rather have a new Elder Scrolls game, but having Skyrim remastered wouldn't make a dent in that schedule.

I feel as though if a remaster is going to have any influence on me it has to be from at least a couple generations ago.

If it's just from the previous generation I could almost care less.

Also, is there a PC version? If so, I could almost care less.

While I agree, I think it's funny that the guy who posted "Should it be bannable to bitch about remasters?" is currently banned. =P

Yeah, and you might not want to know what he was banned for... :S
(I just made it unavoidable for you to check what he was banned for, didn't I?).

I'm happy with them because I get to pick up those I want and remasters don't take away resources from sequels. Some of them legitimately improve the experience. Gravity Rush Remastered looks, runs and controls better than the original. Gravity shifting is actually faster because the game runs at 60fps.

I still want more remasters too. Folklore, Dragon's Dogma, Vanquish, a bunch of PS2-era games (Valkyrie Profile 2, Otogi, Shadow Hearts, Nocturne, etc.).

50/50. In general, yes but I wouldn't mind a current gen port of Assassin's Creed Rogue, Far Cry 3, Outland, Splinter Cell Conviction and a Resistance trilogy collection. Would also like to see the Vita version of Uncharted Golden Abyss get ported to PS4. Outside of Rogue which was released just over two years ago, every game that im hoping for a remaster of is at least four years old or older.

I only buy remasters of games that I haven't actually played. So, not really.

This.

Sometimes this backfires on me because I'll have the original for my PS3/360 which I haven't played, still brand new in the wrapper and then a remaster will come out for next gen. Square recently did that with KH and I'm happy but also crying on the inside 😂

It feels like every fifth game in a publisher's catalog for the past five or six years has been a remaster. Sometimes they're of games that I legitimately want to have an opportunity to play, and other times it's just an upscale of a game from one gen ago that didn't really need to take up retail space for $40. Sometimes they even change fundamental aspects of the game so that it's markedly different than the original.

In short, I'd rather have more Day of the Tentacle Remastered than a Prototype Collection.

Anyone else feeling fatigued?

Not really. The way I look at it is there are many games from my past that I would love to go back and play again, but with so many new games coming out these days where do I find the time? I already have a backlog, plus trophies to earn. What the remaster does, is gives me a new reason to play an old game.... prettier graphics, and new trophies. If I was luke-warm on the game to begin with, I'd probably pass on the remaster as well, but if I loved the game, why not play it again?

Of course, personally, I'll wait for a sale- no way I'm paying full price for a remastered game unless I absolutely have to have it day one like FFXII (which is kind of a new experience for me anyway since it's the international version). Got Skyrim for $35 and it's totally worth it on PS4. Tons of trophies to earn, all DLC included, and prettier graphics. More value there than a good number of new releases IMO.

Not sick of them until I get Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, and Dragons Dogma. After those they can go away

Can you imagine the hype a Dark Souls 1 remaster would create? Think of all the people who only got into souls games with Bloodborne or DkS3. If this happened, I'm not sure I'd ever play anything else ever again.

Not really, it was only a little annoying when there weren't many 'new' games coming out on consoles. It feels like this generation has really hit it's stride now, with a nice variety of quality games out & many more on the way

They can be a nice way to revisit an old favourite or experience a game for the first time & bring it to a new audience.

Still waiting for:

Mass Effect trilogy
Resistance trilogy
Deadspace trilogy
Demons souls
Viewtiful joe 1 and 2

Yeah... i love remasters expect when they are from activision.

Prototype: straight up shitty port
Transformers fall of cybertron: a full price straight up port. No improvements.
Modern warfare: locked behind infinite warfare
Marvel ultimate alliance: so bad disney had to slap their hands.

Remasters are fine

Expensive up-rezzes aren't

but I only buy remasters of exclusives anyway because those are the ones that usually aren't ripoffs and I can't just go and play those games cheaply on PC

I'm totally sick of them, I never buy them, unless it's worth it or comes in a bundle with something else I want. Very very few are worth while at all, and most are quick cash grabs than any actual effort put into them.

Really? The world needs a remaster of Voodoo Vince? No, I'd rather have publishers spend the time and money making something new, instead of rehashing the past. but I know they sell well and make them money, and that's what really matters to publishers, so whatever. It's just a bummer.

if they are done well then sure do it up I say but the last one I bought was GTA san andreas ps4 and it's just terrible, terrible framerate, ruined the whole thing.

I'm sick of remasters which aren't the definitive versions. Example: missing content and/or have microtransactions or whatever else monetization added into them.

No, they're actually a god send when the original version had poor IQ and sub 30fps. Going from that to 60fps and pristine IQ can completely change the experience.

I don't mind them. I only buy 1 version of a game and on PC if possible so most of my games get the remaster treatment from mods, etc

I like the remasters of old games that grant me the opportunity to play all of the good games that I missed back then. It makes sense to remaster those kind of games.

Remastering games that only released a few years ago and only do a few visual tweaks (or none at all) does not seem ideal to me. Especially when you're reselling the game for full price again and its not even at 60 fps. That is rip-off status. Looking at you, Bethesda.

I'm only sick of poorly remastered games.
By that I mean poor IQ, low resolution, and poopy frame rates, glitches etc.

Get an Xbox 360 game as close to PC version and I'll be happy.

As long as those remasters run at 60fps - nope, not at all. Can't tell you the joy I felt finally playing MGS3 at a decent framerate.

Nope, I'm not sick of remasters. I view them more as collectables that preserve significant games from the past. There are also some games I hadn't got around to finishing that would be great for a fresh play through. I don't pay full price for remasters. I wait til they get below $20. I'm currently waiting for the price of the following to drop.
  • BioShock: The Collection
  • Skyrim Remastered
  • Batman: Return to Arkham
