"Are you the real batman??"

Immaculate. Just immaculate.

Man, like others have already said TDK was lightning in a bottle. The overall trilogy is excellent but TDK just surpasses and elevated beyond all other comic book movies.

I'll never forget how hyped I was for the movie. I remember closely following the crazy viral campaign up to release, the shock of Ledger passing (which I initially thought was part of the viral campaign only to be horribly wrong), and how much the film absolutely surpassed sky high expectations. I don't know if we'll ever experience such a payoff.

Ledger, you are a legend. I can only wish you knew how much your performance captivated audiences. Greatest performance above ever witnessed.

We're never getting another TDK.

People will laugh at this but the spirit of BvS is the closest thing we've gotten, it was also a passion project for everyone involved, it didn't land the best it could, but it did own thing trying to (clumsily) convey its message. After its failure of capturing the public mind, we're never getting another auteur, provocative shot at a cbm.

It's all "fun" from now on.

My favorite scene is the one with the pencil magic trick, but you could say that every scene with the joker in TDK is stellar.

Yeah "why so serious" got quoted to hell and back since the first trailer, but "LOOK AT ME!" is far and away my favourite line in the whole trilogy, just for the sheer emotion it showed. Just seconds before that he was giggling at the fake cowl. Man, Ledgers Joker was something else.

This Joker was far too great for the series he was stuck in. Easily the best villain performance in a superhero movie by a wide, wide margin.

What series would he have been better suited for? The Dark Knight Rises didn't meet my expectations in the long-term but Batman Begins and The Dark Knight aren't exactly a bad series to be a part of.

Best superhero movie of all time. Probably ranks as one of my favorite movies of all time too. We were spoiled and now we can't get these highs anymore.

Ledger's Joker was great and really surprised me in the cinema because I didn't hear anything about it.

My favourite Joker still remains Hamill's version, especially the one from the DCAU. Ledger was absolutely fantastic and deserves most of the praises said about him, but I just prefer the characterisation of Hamill's (and his excellent performance). Batman: The Animated Series is my favourite Batman thing ever too.
I have a theory that cinematic universes basically cockblock real superhero "films" like this from happening anymore.
Your theory is spot on. We're not getting anything as self-contained and high quality like Nolan's trilogy for a long time, especially if other studios keep trying to establish their own cinematic universe when it's shown they can't do it well. They're gonna keep trying because Marvel Studios is the one to reach because they review well and earn a nice amount of dough. I wish they'd stop (the other studios, that is. Not Marvel).

I'm just not into Batman or most of the supporting characters in these movies. If we had a Batman that was as good as Ledger's Joker the movie would have been absolutely transcendent.

For all the (deserved) praise for Ledger's Oscar winning Joker performance and not a single mention about the internet's idiotic reaction when it was announced that he was playing the joker.

"Really? The guy who played a gay cowboy? RUINED!!!"

Hamill is still untouchable as Joker, but Ledger's work was solid. Interrogation scene remains the best live action Batman scene to date.

Watching this movie for the first time was one of the best movie experiences I've ever had.

Can't imagine any project in the near future that will make me feel that way again.

Heath was amazing. Such an original and well performed Joker. His lines and actions haunted my toughts for months.

It's definitely one of my favorite characters of all time.

What makes me sick nowadays is that every super hero movie feels like a "bridge", they are always preparing for something, we are supposed to always be waiting for something in the next movie, it's always "coming", but they never seem to deliever. That's why we don't get performances like this anymore.

Nolan took a big risk with his idea, but it was original and well made. That's why it's so unique.

I mean I get your point, but there wasn't much the filmmakers could due after Heath passed away...

While true, I wasn't a fan that in TKDR, Batman just retired altered TDK. I figured there would have been an implied back and forth between Batman and the Joker in the years between the movies.

I dont think I can ever pick one favorite scene. Every moment he is on film is fucking hypnotic. You just cannot look away. I loved the "wanna know how I got these scars" monologues, I loved the interrogation scenes, loved the part in the OP, loved the gangsters scenes..... just everything.

So good.

Oh please. That crap is nothing like TDK.
Comparing them is an insult to it.

Even bringing in"fun" bullshit. TDK was a fun movie to watch. BvS wasn't.

Joker is the only thing i like about Nolan's batman movies.
Every scene he is in is terrific. I can watch it over and over again.

I put on the opening scene the other day, and got so captivated that I sat through the whole thing. It is VERY good... It's not just 2008 zeitgeist.

In terms of smart, groundbreaking action films to define an era, I think it goes The Matrix -> Dark Knight -> Mad Max: Fury Road. It was that good.

He is saying both are auteur driven/attempting to elevate the genre. I can see it, even if TDK is the only one to do both successfully by general consensus.
I'd give that to Raimi's Spiderman 2 or even Singer's X-men before BvS.
BvS is just pretentious tripe.

I agree on Spidey 2 as well for sure, haven't seen Singer X-Men except for the first one. BvS wasn't pretentious, at least for me, but I can't think of many movies that are.

The acting from everyone in this movie who isn't a major character is just so fucking atrocious.

"T...to show Gotham we don't hafta be afraid of scum like you!"

I don't know if its the writing or the actor but shit like this and "No more dead cops!" makes me feel like I'm watching a half competent movie. The quality variable is insane going from great to terrible to great.

We'll never get a better joker. No matter what leto thinks, he's not ever going to be that good, that menacing, that disturbing.

AMEN

Lots of great ideas in BvS hampered by lackluster script and execution.

Nolan's series was great, but it's very much "Batman in our world"...so much from the comics wouldn't really translate into Nolan's version of Gotham, so I'm happy we can see the more fantastical stuff on screen at least.

I really did jump in my seat. I think my whole theatre did.

The movie is a masterclass in creating and maintaining tension. That first time I saw it in the theatre I was so absorbed. It got to the end of the hospital scene and I realized that I was literally on the edge of my seat and getting dizzy from a lack of proper breathing.

There'll never be a better Joker.

And, as much as I love Ben Affleck, I doubt there'll be a better Batman movie.

I think Affleck could deliver a better Batman film, but not a better actual film. I still think Begins is the best Batman film to date, but will admit TDK is of higher quality.

Bale Batman is such a god damn joke in those movies, jesus fuck.

Every scene I rewatch is Ledger just being absolutely amazing and then Bale does his voice in that terrible looking suit with his ducklips and just....How did Ledger act opposite of that????

Nah he can definately make a better actual film. TDK has some amazing scenes, but it also has a lot of crappy ones that drag the movie down.

"You have nothing, nothing to threaten me with. Nothing to do with all your strength."

Best and most meaningful line in the movie that exhibits why he's the perfect antagonist to Batman. Turns every strength of the protagonist into a weakness.
