Took an extremely long time to download the first issue but I got it.
In a post-Smart Cover world, every single app NEEDS a landscape mode. It just flat out needs it. If I'm flipping through my daily reading material and all of a sudden I have to pick up the iPad from the desk, unwrap the triangle Smart Cover stand and hold it upright, I usually just skip past that app thinking to myself "I'll come back to it later". Except, I don't. If it had worked, there's a chance I might have spent a good while reading through the content. But now I won't. This is basic UI theory, guys.
Also, I get that the scrolly background thing is cool, but nine times out of ten it's distracting. I'd rather have the option to toggle to a flat-background image. The reader typically keeps their eye on the part they're up to when scrolling on an iPad, and when that content becomes obscured by part of an image that won't scroll until I release my finger, it gets frustrating.
Also: there needs to be clearer signage on the page detailing whether I can click on an element or scroll-down, because on pages like the KZ3 write-up, even a tech-savvy guy like me just passed it by to start with. It just needs to be clearer. My eyes weren't being led there at all. The same is true of the four-editor writeup at the beginning. I didn't realize you could click on the other three guys until I revisited it later. Scrolling availability and touch-functionality need to be much clearer. The tried and true PDF/Comic/Digital Newspaper method of showing a border when you tap once, detailing the page number and other more traditional UI elements might not be as WWHHHOOOOA IM TRYING EDGY UI TECHNIQUES MAN as the rest of the interface, and don't get me wrong I really love risky but effective UI, but as it is now the fancy stuff alone isn't fulfilling the basic requirements of an effective UI.
But I admire the ambition. I can only hope it improves with time. Good luck!
