Context?

Not at all. I stated what the people rioting are generally referred to as, and why; they're not your typical Argentineans.

If you infer that I'm racist from my posts, I'm not, though I am selectively wary against certain types. Can't say I'm keen on continuing to get mugged or have a gun put to my head.

Anyway, you need to live in the country to understand the situation, reading three sentences on a forum from a guy who lives there and says what I did will produce knee-jerk reactions.
Staph just staph.
You're only hurting yourself more.
Diggin' that hole.

hahaha, okay, sir. "i'm not a racist"

"negros de mierda" more or less translates into "piece of shit niggers"
and don't try to pull some bullshit that "negros" is not what that means.

go away.

what is this about?

In Argentina the best way to show political power is by how many people you can put on the street. A way of easily upping your numbers at political demonstrations is by getting close to the barras, mob-like organization of "fans" of different football teams (Like the english hooligans but with access to a lot more firepower), that have many adherents. Many of the high ranking barras of different clubs are part of well known political parties and unions, and are surprised in different criminal acts (mainly weapon possesion and drug trafficking) but since they are protected they can't be judged. As such, these violent professionals are used to disrupt the order, break protests of people from other polical parties, protection during their own events, etc. Example, this riot some of the media are saying that many of the rioters where from Chacarita, a club whose barra is known for affilitation to the leader of one of the biggest unions in the country.

Argentinians are white Hispanics; don't be surprised that many of them have internalized racist stereotypes against non-white immigrants.

yup

the term is offensive to poor people, foreigeners, black people and people from the argie provinces at the same time

unfortunately this kind of thinking is not uncommon

good summary

i don't really have the exact info on who's behind this now but basically this is what's going on, this doesn't have anything to do with football fans, the world cup or argies themselves

this is mostly mobster shit

ah. ok.

I never understood sports riots.

"WE LOST SO LETS FUCK UP THE PLACE WE LIVE!"

read a couple earlier posts from this thread, teclon post specially

these riots are unrelated to world cup, sports, losing or whatever

this is a small number of people that actually scared away the thousands of fans that were peacefully cheering

Nope man, it still sounds racist. Especially if you keep saying 'though im selectively wary against certain types'. That's classic racism.

lol at that account suicide. The worst thing is that this kind of racism is also in Brazil, especially in the South. Way to go, South America.

I think he means they are poor immigrants.... Which is both classist and xenophobic...

when someone says "negros de mierda" it has a racist connotation, so that's where nigger comes from

people in argieland actually use the word negro to refer to their friends too (you can call your friends "negro" or "negrito" and no one will flip) so it's complicated

so yea nigger in that context is pretty accurate

Let's not pretend racism is a South American problem. At least there's never been legalized segregation in Brazil.

There's no Spanish translation for the word Nigger that I know off. Negro means Black, I've being called Negro/Negrito all the time in the Caribbean but it's a completely different story.

Still the translation means "Piece of Shit Black People" which still means you think people of a certain color are pieces of shit.

Uhhh no fucking shit???

Well, dunno if we have a equivalent derogatory term of the N-word but I think it tells a lot when in dubs of US media the N-Word is often suplanted by "negros/blacks".

True it depends of the context.

QUE?!

You know youa re in GAF, right?
True, perhaps not the best place to post it with its zero-tolerance rules and the ability to be taken out of context. If a mod wants to ban me he's welcome to PM me beforehand, but my original post was more in the intent to clarify who was doing the rioting.

Anyway, to say it more tactfully, the people responsible for the riots are always the marginalized part of society. These things repeat themselves because the police scoop them up and less than 12 hours later they're out on the streets, and this occurs in everything from rioting to armed robbery. There's a lot of frustration here and the phrase I used is what has become a pretty normal way of thinking after decades of this. (To the fellow Argie, I never said everyone falls under this category)

Originally this was a celebration over our achievements in the World Cup, and it degenerated into this due to a small number of people who took advantage to loot a few wine bottles (I'm not exaggerating, they were literally looting a bar and walking out with bottles). What can I say, there's some complex social issues at hand.

I think he means they are poor immigrants.... Which is both classist and xenophobic...
and hilariosuly completely wrong

people that think like that are usually from buenos aires such as myself and who would've thought we're all immigrant descendants here, italian, spanish, poles, russians, you name it.

we're also a pretty decent minority, since buenos aires is like 10% of the population of the country.

so yeah, not only racist, but also ignorant and remarkably stupid

Well dunno about you part of the continent, but the Mexican goverment has nasty story with indigenious people, even after the independence of Spain.

Actually it is a South American problem. And a Northern American problem. And a European problem. And an Asian problem. And an Australian problem. And an African problem.

smh

I've known the word negro to be used in a casual and social way or joke around with friends and shit but never have I ever seen it used as a racist connotation before....until now...

Here in Argentina we call these people negros de mierda.

As someone that constitutes what is considered a negro de mierda in Argentina, I got some words for you: Andate a la puta que te pario, and stop embarrasing my future country with your shameful racist shit, Lord knows your kind are dying breed.
Let's not pretend racism is a South American problem. At least there's never been legalized segregation in Brazil.

Please do not affirm to know the history of our continent when you dont even know the one of your own country, I implore to find and read articles written by your own Mário Filho about this subject, this is a good place to start for english speakers, or just read all the shit that was said about the guy that hurt Neymar.

No, there is not a direct equivalent of the word in Spanish, but that's why the context matters- and "Negros de mierda" leaves no doubt to the question.

Also, "Negro" (in Spanish) doesn't always carry the same exact meaning that "Black" does in English. I have heard "Negro" in Spanish said in just as hostile of a manner as I've heard "nigger" said in English.

I feel like NeoGAF has had this same semantic argument before, and it results in running in circles.
