Arkham City: Which version to purchase? PS3 or 360?

Throw out the PC version as I don't have one capable of running it.

Headed to the store after work and I will be picking it up. I'm not sure if I should go with the PS3 or 360 version.

They look similar, but I was wondering if anyone had played both and could vouch for one version runs better than the other.

I couldn't find a review that mentioned any real difference between the 2 versions.

(please no console fanboy wars, just looking for an objective opinion).

I don't know anything about Arkham City, but Arkham Asylum ran identically on both platforms--the game was noted as being an especially good PS3 port for the time + it had bonus content in the form of the Joker Challenge Maps.

It ran similarly on both, but 360 version had some advantages:

2x AA vs. no AA
SSAO
Motion Blur

As far as I can tell, Arkham City on the 360 has 2x AA, while the PS3 version does not. Besides that, they are largely comparable.

Does it have a save import?

Anyway if you own Arkham Asylum it might be worth getting the game on the same system just so you can shelve them together.

360.

I have a rule. Buy all 3rd party on 360 and only exclusives on PS3 unless it deems necessary. For example, I bought Final Fantasy XIII on PS3.

The only real visual difference I noticed between each when playing AA was that 360 had some subtle motion blur.

No clue if that has changed at all for Arkham city though.

I'm easily impressed by dumb shit so I grabbed the 360 version of Asylum, but the game really does run and look fantastic on either system.

From what I know, it does not.

Same. Mostly because the 360 controller is like 100000x better than the small child controller for PS3.

I actually asked and got no replies...but ended up getting the 360 version as it most times turns out the better version even by a small margin.

BINGO

I have been pretty happy for the most part.

I still bought Dark Souls on ps3 though

Also because I bought it first and switching primary consoles is weird.

yeah, but that rule doesn't always hold up. Most of the time, sure.

In this case i'd like to know more than just the lens of thruth images.
From what i can see from those images is that visually, they won't really differ much in motion.
Anti Aliassing looks about the same in those images, though in certain images the 360 version seems to have a tad more.
Lighting looks better on the PS3 version as do the cutscenes images (blurry on 360, must be compression).

But how is the framerate, the sound, the 3D?

Even YOU can get used to both. even with your giant penis, ehh.. hands.

The problem with LoT is that they don't show raw 720p images. The anti-aliasing disparity will certainly be greater in person, as the PS3 version has no AA, and the 360 version has 2x AA.

AA differences will not show up in YouTube videos either.

Either way, Levity plays more on his 360 so he should get it for that.

Wait a minute.....

It's a UE3 game. General rule of thumb is that that engine runs slightly better on 360 unless some serious effort has been put in. I would assume that the 360 version has the edge slightly, therefore, but, honestly, I'd think both versions will be pretty much identical to the naked, unprofessional eye.

If that is the case, than i'd rather have the 360 version for AA ofcourse. But other factors weigh in. And from those images, especially close up, jaggies seem almost equally apearent.

I'd be willing to bet that both run at a similar clip. I say, buy based on your controller preference.

Its a Unreal 3 game so the safe bet is 360.

ps3 version still looks great. seems Epic have done some work updating the ps3 Unreal engine the last few months. Maybe pressure from Crytek selling CE3 got them off there asses.

Looking at the LOT comparison both versions look about the same... maybe the 360 has better SSAO on the characters but both seem to have there far share of jaggies so not sure about a AA diffrence and the environments look identical lighting and detail wise so I am not sure of both have environmental SSAO or both dont have it... Dark game looks dark.

That I do, though I've been playing the PS3 a lot more recently :-)

I have a rule. Buy all third party stuff for the platform I like. And exclusives for the step child.
The controller for the platform I like is so much better. I hope that is relevant and helps you op.

MSAA in Unreal Engine 3 on consoles always ends up getting filtered out by post process effects, so even if the 360 version has it, most edges will not have any AA applied.

Hey twin.

Noticeably inferior PS3 ports are a dying breed, I personally hate using the 360 controller for anything that requires use of the face buttons, and I just flat out like the PS3 box design. Shooters are vastly superior on the 360 pad though.

Word

Nothing much between them but apparently the PS3 version has slightly better lighting. The dark atmosphere of Batman's world is a big part of the appeal, so that might just give the PS3 the tiniest of edges.

The graphical differences did not deter me from picking up the PS3 version for Batman:AA. It wouldn't deter me from picking up the PS3 version for Batman:AC .. unless there is a ridiculous amount of tearing.

360 version like you guys, but that's only because I like achievements more than trophies. That's the only reason I was happy SH HD collection is coming to 360.

I know, stupid. :lol but I have more than 6000 achievements and I like the implementation way better. :<

I asked it earlier, but how is the 3D compared to each other ?

wasn't there a 3D thread on earlier today? the PS3 can output a proper stereoscopic 3D and the 360 only has that semi-3D? Due to the HDMI 1.3 advantage.

Rocksteady did a good job with Arkham Asylum and now this game as well. So the only thing that should be the deciding factor is the controller preference.

I think for this one the 360 version has an ever slight edge. Slightly better AA, use of SSAO etc. So that's the version I'll be getting.

But I have a question for you guys. My 360 is currently locked away in storage, can I use my cousins 360 to sign in on my account? Assuming I can just log in similar to how it is on PSN and everything will be transfered (achievements wise) when I log back on to my own 360 later on?

Yes, just recover your gamertag (may take a while, god knows why), once done your achievements, purchase history, etc will all be there.

Skipping Arkham City, I really didn't like the first game, it seemed REALLY shallow but I guess if you're a fan of batman it's a good property tie-in.
