I started playing Blackgate recently and really like it. What is the big knock(s) on the game?I misread the thread title as 'Arkham Origins Blackgate' and was very confused by all the positive impressions.
But I agree with the consensus here. Origins is great. Was unfairly dumped on when revealed and released. It's a better game than City, and well worth $8.
Best game in the series I've played, though I have yet to play Arkham Knight.
Yes. Best character designs and story in the series.
Playable, but still the worst of the bunch. It's the only version I've owned, but I've since gotten rid of it, and will rebuy on PC at some point. Gamepad features didn't matter to me as the Pro Controller is so much nicer to use.

My biggest problem was the level design to be honest. Every area felt the same, and it seemed like a chore to traverse - especially with all the backtracking (for context, I'm a big metroidvania fan, so I'm not against backtracking on principal)
Also, I thought that the map was terrible and difficult to interpret - making the above even more tiring.
I enjoyed some of the story - but overall just found it a bit dull.
How's the WiiU version and features? I was always wondering lol
Too bad the ps store is trash and Won't let me buy from my phone anymore
you're blind if you think the rocksteady abominations (i.e. gears of war rejects in batman costumes) are better looking charcters than the actual normal designs in origins. boss fights might not be spectacular, but at least decent, unlike some of that rocksteady shit, which was only redeemed by mr. freeze. and even that is overrated, as its a joke fight on any replay knowing the trick.
I liked it better than Arkham City. People say City is more memorable, but I remember nothing from City and a good deal from Origins.
Probably because it came after? One thing about the City vs Origins debate is that one game came out 2 years after the other, and is almost a mirror copy in every way. So when you have 2 years of refinement, 2 years to take whatever criticisms City had, you can make a game that plays up strengths City couldn't.
For me, Origins was a glitchy game, it felt like just a carbon copy. The combat was improved over City, but then broken once you got a certain upgrade. Reused map assets, just didn't wow you like City did.
I'd say it's worth it for $8 though. And I think they probably fixed a lot of the bugs and glitches or no?
