Arthur and Rad Spencer confirmed for MVC. Also some magnet dude and a floating head

Just saw the news (late I'm know) about Rad and Arthur being in there :D :D :D :D :D

...aaaand I'm officialy buying MvC3 even though I suck at these game:lol s

I don't mind the new Rad model, but I hate it when Capcom 'Dante' up the character into a talkative douche to make him "cool"

We should be getting videos and an official announcement for Magneto and MODOK later today. I wonder if they'll announce more or at least show off the alternate costumes in action anytime soon.

Holy shit, when would they pick the guy from the failed game when they have ReArmed 2 coming it? :lol
You think this (left) would have been better than Rasta Spencer?

Also, it's because there's a Bionic Commando Retail 2 coming out. Believe.

Having never played any Bionic Commando games,I think the rasta one is better, fresher.
The old one looks like a redhead Duke Nukem.
And red moustache is kind of strange.

Rasta Spencer was the star of a multiplatform game that sold less copies in NA across two platforms than Dragon Quest 4 DS did one a single platform. He's the product of ridiculously cynical focus testing and nothing more.

Orange Hair Spencer is the star of a number of highly successful games, one of which has been considered a classic for more than 20 years, another of which made a huge sales splash in modern times even though it was only intended to be a promotional pump-primer for Rastafail's game.

So of course let's go with Failure Spencer instead. Totally makes sense.

I hope we get the rest of the CG intro showing how modok, magz, arthur and rad are introduced.

I don't think this is going to be an issue at all. Spiderman has 4 completely unique alternate costumes. I'll be really shocked if the Rearmed Spencer is not available as a costume. The reason why they went with the new Spencer design is very likely because when they were picking characters to use in MvC3 during the early development phase, the game wasn't out yet, so it hasn't bombed yet.

You mean David "Spencer" Caruso?

I'll take dreadlocks. I don't recall Viewtiful Joe rocking any sales records but his stupid ass is in this game.

Yep, but Spider-man's costumes are mostly just texture reskins, whereas Spencer would need a new model, or at least part of it. I still think it will eventually be available, be it on the game, as DLC or as a bonus in Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 but it might not show up at all.

Viewtiful Joe's first game sold literally 10x the amount of Bionic Commando 2009 PS3/360 combined, just on GCN sales alone. Even the poorest selling Viewtiful Joe game outsold BC09.

And yes, I know Rearmed Rad will probably be in the game, and I know they might have made the choice early on, but on the other hand, it's been sixteen months since BC09 did the mother of all fucking swandives, which is plenty of time to promote Rearmed Rad to default.

I dunno, I see no reason for them to change something mid-development just because of the sales of another game. I'm really not bothered at all by the new Spencer being the main dude in MvC3 at all. If we only want successful characters to be in the game, we won't be getting quite a number of characters here, especially on the Marvel side. I like the mix of A-listers and some B and C tier characters in terms of popularity in the mix. It makes both universes seem much more varied and diverse honestly.

Didn't they say no retro Capcom characters for the game, that it would be PSX generation and on? Or did they just say not very many? Well I'm glad Arthur did make it. It'd be even better if it meant there was a new GnG game in the pipeline!

It just seems odd to me, that's all. Poorly reviewed game/comic, sold poorly, was received poorly by the fans. He's the only character on the list for either side that can check all those boxes. It's like if they put Daredevil in and defaulted to Movie Daredevil. It makes no sense.

It's not just sales, though, it's reception. BC '09 Spencer looks fucking stupid. Everyone says he looks fucking stupid. I remember here on GAF when it was announced that beating Rearmed would unlock Redhead Rad in BC '09, a lot of people considered that a huge incentive for buying the game just so they wouldn't have to play as fucking stupid looking Rasta Rad.

Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins also totally bombed. It didn't sell significant numbers anywhere in the world. It has a metacritic score of 72, and a user score of 9.1 (from 7 user ratings).

So I checked Bionic Commando, and it has a metacritic score of 71 (PS3), 70 (360), and 69 (PC). Not much further behind than that. The userscore for PS3 is 8.5 (from 20 user ratings), and for 360 it's 7.8 (from 53 user ratings). Clearly there are some people who enjoyed the game, and overall it's not really as poorly reviewed and rated as we thought.

Well wasn't there a GnG remake on PSP?
Maybe that count as recent? :p

Edit:I found a video for the live reveals of Spencer and Arthur.

I like that the reactions go from "who is that guy?" to " OMG ARTHUR" :lol

Arthur has been in a successful game. Rasta Spencer has not. That's just one difference between the two.

I just think of Spencer as a single character though, just like Arthur. The only difference is the design. He's still the same guy though.

Well then we're not even working from the same premise, because I'm talking about a specific design of the character in question, while you're talking about the character on the whole.

What do you think the response would be if Spider-Man's default costume was Spider-Man Unlimited?

Maybe Capcom just thinks the western fans really like 09 Spencer, like the crazy notion they have we all love Frank West.
Well I like Frank West but after playing DR2 I want Chuck Greene :lol

I think it would be pretty dumb, because personally I want the default costume to be Spiderman 2099! :D

It might've sold better if it was on a main console and not limited to PSP. It probably would've sold better if it was a digital distribution game ala Trine on XBLA/Steam/PSN.

Fuck, I'd totally buy it if they allowed PSP games to be emulated on the PS3.

I never liked Frank for a fighting game. Chuck Greene on the other hand... fuck yes. Level 3 special with the slicecycle! :D

Haha, that would be awesome. Miguel's already having a fucking great year, though. He got to be the front Spidey on the Shattered Dimensions package and everything!

2099 Spidey was well-reviewed, sold well, and was received well, though, which is why I said Spidey Unlimited, whose lot in fictional life wasn't that far from Rasta-Rad's.

UGnG was fanastic. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Really looking forward to Magfuckingneto And MODOK trailers. I hope they remix Mag's XvSF theme, that was badass.

Even Unlimited Spidey had a cool costume though, I can't really think of an awful costume for Spiderman, maybe the first Scarlett Spider, but even that one was cool once you got behind the concept.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Like I said, it does seem like they made this decision long before the game was released and bombed, and probably for whatever reason had to stick with it. Maybe the "plot" was already written around the newer Spencer, maybe they already paid good money to have that design featured in the CG trailers/opening/ending/whatever.

Either way, it's not a huge deal imo, even though it is the black horse in the sense that it's the least popular Capcom design revealed so far, which effectively replaces a more popular one. On a slightly different tangent though, I missed the TGS announcements somehow, and I only found out about X-23 today. My reaction is utter confusion because it's basically another Wolverine character, except more emo and with tits. Why?!

I'm not a big fan of Negative Zone Spidey, 2211 Spidey, Spider Phoenix, or Captain Universe, but yeah, Spidey's got a lot of cool costumes.

I'm not opposed to Rasta-Rad being in the game. I think it's cool. I just don't think he should be the default, and as I said earlier, if I have to pay to use the real Rad, I'm going to be pissed the same way a Spidey fan would be pissed having to pay for the Red-and-Blues.

Music for Arthur = :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

X-23's one of Joe Quesada's pet characters, so I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed hard for her to be in. She has foot claws though, and in the comics she fights pretty differently from Wolverine, so she should be able to differentiate herself enough play-wise. I also would rather have a fully different character as opposed to a distaff counterpart of an existing one, but them's the breaks I guess.

Eventhubs has some info from the game based on interview's with Seth Killian and Niitsuma at Comic Con, if anyones interested.

The original proposal from Capcom was to have Stan Lee in the game, but Marvel is handling that side of things, so Niitsuma wasn't sure if he'd show up.

Dammit Marvel, add him! He would be the perfect character for this game. :lol

X-23 plays nothing like Wolverine, so far. She's getting her own comic though so thats probably the biggest reason for her appearance, plus she's a chick and MvC3 needs some more female presence.

What is this?! Viewtiful Joe is infinitely awesome and deserves his spot in the game, and his first game did very well to warrant its sequel even though it's replayability was slightly limited in that it didn't have multiplayer like that one Bionic Commando game. He didn't do amazingly good but he still did a whole lot better than BC that he got like five more games but not an end to the trilogy. You hear me Capcom?! I want closure damn it!!

EDIT: @ the guy who posted just above me, there are so many better Marvel females than X-23 like Emma Frost. But for some reason or another Marvel didn't let them use her.

I hope to god Cyclops makes it in. Especially if MODOK and X-23 have. He's kind of a pivotal Marvel character, being the leader of the X-Men and all.

I don't think they meant Stan Lee would be a playable character, he probably would have been a narrator or similar role, like what he does with other Marvel projects.
