I'm hoping we will see more "wacky" characters added to Marvel's line up for the remaining slots. I guess you could include MODOK, but with characters like Authur and Amaterasu on Capcom's side, I'd like to see more non "super hero" characters added to Marvel's line up like Howard the Duck or even Kick-Ass. Or even the more "goofy" super hero characters like Impossible Man.

I don't know, saying that it should be mostly x-men and street fighter characters because XvSF was the first versus game makes no sense, because this isn't XvSF 5. In fact, MvC2 was a drag IMO because its roster was stuffed with so many recycled Street Fighter and X-Men characters who were useless anyway.

And I think characters like MODOK are chosen not because they're banner characters but because they're unexpected and shake things up. And MODOK is like, what... 1 character so far out of how many? He is basically the Tron Bonne (even has a similar shape...) for the Marvel side. A WTF character.

But then, when SFIV came out, we had neurotic Street Fighter fetishists genuinely seething with rage that the characters weren't "serious" enough, the game was too colorful, and their animations were too lively and generally, there was just too much goddamn fun in the game. Get that f**king fun out of here. We need an edition of MvC3 where every single character is Wolverine because he is EXTREEEEEEEEEME and moody. His fists. Have. F**king. Metal. Claws. That's what mature gamers want to see.

I think you're missing the point of the MvC series.

I'll take the wacky and unexpected (Servbot, MODOK, Frank West, Amingo) over "iconic" any day. The overall kooky feel of the game is one of its unique charms and yes, having a huge, ugly floating head adds to that feel.

What I am saying however is that there are much better characters out there with far superior designs than MODOK for god sake. Roster so far is varied, but it does suck loads of ass at the moment. On the flip side they're adding interesting gimmicks to uninteresting characters. Which is fine, but it's too much at this point. I'd like more X-Men and SF characters, because that's what the VS games have been primarily composed of. It's characters that a majority of fans want, not ones that are being forced in because Capcom finally felt the need to add some variety.

Sure, those characters are definitely more popular than him, but Marvel has a huge stable of characters. Just because they aren't one of the five you mentioned doesn't mean that they aren't classic or popular characters. Popularity too is something that fluctuates over time, Iron Man being a good example of that gaining popularity from the recent movies.

I'm curious who else you would pick for the roster, would you say Daredevil or Punisher aren't iconic characters either?

I think it's a good thing that they're moving away from Street Fighter and X-Men characters. This is Marvel vs. Capcom 3, not X-Men vs. Street Fighter 2.

I agree. MvC2 was too focused on X-Men and SF games because they were pulling from the assets they had, of which the majority were from those series.

Now that they've gone 3D, they are not reliant on previous assets, so Marvel vs. Capcom 3 should be a better representation of their respective universes. I think they're doing a fantastic job so far of nailing that idea. I love the roster so far, waaaay more than MvC2. Much more variety. I'm going to have a tough time deciding who to play.
