• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

As of next month, the Switch will have 25 different grip/console colour combinations!

Wow thanks !! So pretty!
I just realize though the yellow joy-con don't sell separately (need to be a pair) so I can't just get the left yellow right blue joy-con...
That's another reason why it may be worthwhile to wait on importing the Splatoon joy-cons.
Especially seeing how the left green / right pink dynamic is being offered both as a system bundle and as its own set.

Odds are good they're not going to put a left pink / right green pair into the retail channel as well... so if you're looking for a matching set down the road you may wind up having to buy those colors twice.

None with a d-pad?

There needs* to be parity between the left and right Joycon in terms of buttons, so they can be used for multiplayer at all times. I doubt we'll see a proper d-pad any time soon.

*This seems to be Nintendo's line of thinking, at least.

I can see this happening if they sold it as a duo and it had a dpad on both sides. Of course once you buy there's nothing stopping you from mixing and matching and having just the dpad on the left.

I really want blue/blue but between the price and stocking issues I'm still just rocking grey/grey.

Maybe they'll put out some clear blue ones eventually and I'll actually manage to get a pair.

Yeah don't really like anything but the grey so far...all make my Switch look like a toy. I'm good

Maybe a dark dark navy, black or red or something, all these colors look tacky to me.

Not got a Switch yet, it's planned for my first pay packet from my new job. I want four pads, Im thinking three joycon pairs and a pro. I'll probably go for grey/grey, red/red and blue/blue because I like playing with a blue pad on other consoles, my wife hates all the colours apart from grey and my daughter is called Scarlett so red works for her :) . Then get two yellows if there's any reason for four joycon pairs.

Yellow can be for when you have company.

I've been rocking the default Neon set; gray looks ok but I can't imagine wanting it over this myself.

I've been tempted by the reverse Neon so I could have 2 full color sets as well, and similarly I like the ARMS and Splatoon sets, but... $80 is a lot of money just to mix up the colors. Maybe if there's a game I want that really sells needing another set, I'll get that reverse Neon set st least.

I want the green and pink ones to be released on the European Amazon sites, as I can't import them from Japan. The yellow ones are nice too, but after getting used to the Neon Switch I don't want two of the same color.

When do the splatoon colors hit?

I wont get them because they are that mismatch style but they are the best ones yet i think

The yellow just doesn't do it for me. Too neon. Closing in on gross green. That said, it seems to pair nicely with the actual green.

The Splatoon green and pink seem much better.

You know what would be way better than recolors?

A fucking D-Pad.

Love the idea, would prefer a slightly bigger Vita d-pad. I generally didn't have 3DS cramping issues, but that d-pad just sucked and it was the biggest weakness on the Wii U and Switch Pro controllers too.
Asymmetrical is the real issue with the Switch Pro.

I'm skipping the black ones. Have blue, red, and I preordered the Splatoon set. Hoping the yellow aren't too hard to find. Also, what the hell is up with Amazon? This is the second Nintendo related item they didn't even bother selling. 😡

I did this to my grip and joy cons

Still learning, there are lots of imperfections. Hopefully they release official ones.

HOW?! Did you actually paint the buttons or are those 3DS buttons?

You can't... just post a photo like that and not elaborate on the process. It looks GREAT!

If they did white or black joycons, I would get them. Hell, even Gamecube purple or orange would be cool - just the yellow, red and blue look terrible IMO.

Haha took apart the joy cons (so tedious lol), spray painted all parts, and sanded down the 3DS buttons to fit.

Yeah, or its gonna be, it releases july 21

they also have this nice Splatoon case

to go together with the joy cons!

I'm so glad I waited on a case for my Switch. The Splatoon-themed stuff is just gorgeous.

Has anyone done a full rundown of Splatoon-themed Switch accessories?

The Splatoon set is the first additional pair I am buying but that's mostly because I can never find the Red/Blue set in stores when I want to buy it. I'm definitely anxious to ditch these grey though.

Thought about that...just have get better first! All these color combos are really great. Glad to see the Joy Cons aren't locked as a pair when you buy them and we can mix and match them.

Well I can't see any flaws in what you've done! What about the grip, is that part easier to do?

Haha thanks. The grips were a lot easier yeah. The thing with the joy cons is there are a lot of small parts and some weird positioning for the wiring. If you're not careful you can rip some ribbon cables. It's interesting though to see how they remedied my left joy con interference issues with the foam they added. I was scared to do that myself but now that I've actually taken apart the joy cons it's not as intimidating as I initially thought.

I'd like to see Nintendo release some themed controllers with cool designs on them or even limited edition ones. They'd sell well I'm sure.

Great work. I'm not too fussed about the joycons although they look fantastic, as there are many official colours out there, but I'd definitely be interested in that white grip :p
