I actually think the Oak = Dad could have been an ending revelation in the first plans of not continuing the series (like that misty and mysterious child thing in the original movie ? was it in the movie ?) but they may scraped it later, idk why i am a firmly believer of this theory.

That's right! That's where I heard it. I think I also heard Ash's mom was a bad girl when she was young and hung out with biker gangs and shit. That's how she met him. I'm not sure if they're serious about it, though.
