Assassin's Creed 2 screens and impressions

Chalk me up as one of the few who enjoyed the first for what it was... Could you actually kill all the targets in multiple ways? I thought most of the time you got close and a cut scene would trigger followed by chaos... I know there was one or two exceptions but to me that was one of the bigger disappointments. I like my assassinations to be hitman style where I can approach each target in multiple ways.

It's doable for most of them but the game never did a good job teaching you how to go about it. If you have any inclination of replaying the game, here's a good site showing how to do the assassination's stealthily.

Anyway, I think I might go on a media blackout for AC2, especially since I have to wait even longer (PC version). Damn do I want this game.

Well I liked the first one, so I'll definitely be getting this one. Kinda wondering if the building your villa will work well though.

Faceless, thanks.

I gotta go hunt down my old Co-worker now. Loaned this and Bioshock to him over a year ago and he NEVER returns my calls. I have mutual friends who said he's basically dropped off the radar. He probably sold them to pay for his porn habit... that or he has a fetish for old xbox games haha.

Definitely day 1. I remember reading somewhere that you could kind of pick and choose which weapons you mobbed around with as standard? other than hidden blades/gun of course... if so .....

All armor/robes = Black
weapon = Double sided axe
me = shit eating grin :D

Ultimate test will have to be running away from someone while shooting your hidden gun before swan diving off a bell tower into the river. can't wait.

(also can't wait to see what Altair's armor looks like in the new game.... and Desmond learn how to move faster than "saunter" god FUCK that pissed me off in the first game.)

Did Buckethead say he was doing it? I mentioned that I wanted to do it a few weeks ago and I even asked duckroll -_-
That's fine, you better do a sexy ass job, because as much as I loved Brutal Legend I'd sell my soul to Patrice for a copy of AC2. I love that gingery bastard.

Sounds great, loved the original (am I the only one?), been hyped for the sequel ever since.

Hell no, the game was great. One of the better games released that year. Mega popular game = trolls come out of the woodwork.

This time, the game is looking to be the GOTY.

The sequel is shaping up to top the original in every way and I'm there Day 1...but let's ease off the hyperbole there just a bit, eh?

GOTY? Uncharted 2 says "Hi".

I don't know if this is me but this screen looks like he just killed the guy from Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3. Even the environments look like that :lol
:lol :lol I was thinking the same thing.

I never played the original, so the mechanics of this game is going to be very new to me. Cannot wait. I'm on media blackout as I've only seen a couple of early screens, so it better be worth it!

And New Super Mario Bros. Wii says "Hello" :)

The preview definitely sold me on AC2. It seems like they added the game element to AC (and I did enjoy the first one). From that preview it seems like the third one may be sent in the present, or whenever the game takes place.

I cant wait for this game. I loved the first one even though it had its problems. Looks like they fixed all shortcomings in the sequel.

As great as Uncharted is (loving it so far), the recent new trailers of NSMBWii have sold me tenfold. Forget about NSMB DS, this is the true Mario Bros. revival.

But I guess it's to each his own!

Great impressions and I loved the first game despite its faults, BUT does anyone get the feeling Ubisoft is setting us up for another cliffhanger ending? The whole ”training to become a master assasain” scares me. I guarantee you this is a set up for the inevitable AC3.

I just hoped they learned from their mistake last time. It is possible to have a self-contained story with a climax without resorting to to be continued.

Loved the first game and pre-ordered this a few months ago. I like what I am seeing and reading about secret areas with platforming elements, local economy and more interesting countryside.
But I think I should stop looking at screenshots and videos so I don't learn everything about the game before I play it.

I saw the game run live last week. I don't want to be an ass but it seemed very unfinished. There were a lot of clipping issues. Textures on the characters looked very washed out. (Maybe it's just me playing too much uncharted). Water had no rippling effect at all. The shop menu didn't fit the game very well, being way too modern. Bwah, ugly, mixing two totally different styles.

Oh hell, It was probably an old build. But I don't trust this game, I'll wait for some reviews.

I found AC to be a massive disappointment. However, I'm no troll as I really want AC2 to be an improvement over the original. Nothing would make me happier.

This is definitely something I will wait for Gaf impressions on before I run out and buy it.

AC1 was a excellent concept with some of the shittiest gameplay I have been ever forced to play through. However, if they nail the gameplay this time it could really be something special.

It's suspect how these latest previews refrain from actually commenting on the quality of the game. Definitely a wait and see approach for me too, and most people I imagine. :P

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

Im not overly worried about the quality of the ganme. Its made by the same team, and they are well aware of the criticisms of the first game.

Destructoid reports that AC2 will have 3 hours of cutscenes. If there is no option for subtitles and skipping cutscenes THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

I'm pretty sure they confirmed they will have subtitles but you can't skip them.

after playing Uncharted 2, I don't give a rats ass about NSMB .......
bring on AC2, AC1 was awesome with great game play but extremely repetitive misson/assassination structue.

Plenty of games have had unskippable cutscenes and have been praised to high heaven; the half life series are an example.

Such fucking arrogance.

You're not that talented, Assassin's Creed team. You can barely direct a game, what makes you think you can direct cutscenes well?

wow really :| wtf is wrong with these people. the cut-scenes in the first one were one of the most mind-numbingly boring ones I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through.

So they basically want me to play the game to the end once and never touch it again.

What a retarded choice, I want to have confirmation of this and their bullshit reasoning for doing so.

The menus always have been by the Animus -- the animus is a very futuristic machine. It's normal the menus corresponds to the Animus interface.

As for the textures, Uncharted 2 is like having the best textures of this generation. If you think Uncharted 2 is what you should generally except well, you're illusionned. 95% of anything that will be made until the end of this gen will NOT look on par or better than Uncharted 2. Sorry.

.

As long as they smooth out the framerate and technical bugs of the first game, and keep their promise about the mission variety, I'll be on board with this one. I liked the platforming and combat of the first game but the stuff I mentioned REALLY took me out of it.

By you're reactions it seems that you're interpreting differently than me, but wouldn't this be a vast improvement over the first? In AC every save game loaded seems to be before a cutscene, completely ruining replayability.

In AC1 it saved after every cut-scene as well, except when you replayed the game.

PS3 port sucked for the first one, if I recall correctly. I had the 360 version, which was the middle ground, with the PC being obviously superior.

http://kotaku.com/322633/ps3-vs-xbox-360-assassins-creed-round

^PS3 is a bit sharper but 360 runs 2-3 frames better... I'm finishing up Ratchet on PS3 now and will be Playing AC after it so I hope you're exaggerating.

Seriously though I keep hearing about bad PS3 ports of third party games, what the hell. I've been away from the gaming side of the forums for a while, and only now started playing lots of games, so I had no idea. I was really looking forward to Bayonetta for example, now I'm not sure if I'll buy it. :(

Subtitles are important, I hate missing unclear bits of a game and sometimes I end up replaying parts to catch what I missed.
