Assassin's Creed Art Director Talks Possible Assassin's Creed 3 Settings

If they do another Italy game and don't include Genoa i'm gonna be pissed.
Hey you listening UBI?? At least do a Genoa map for the multiplayer, the city is perfect for rooftop traversal!

Surely, they wouldn't just slap Venice, Florence, Forli and Rome on the same disc and call it a day?

This is exactly what I think will happen :(

X3.... Yep.. This better be the new design for Assasin Creed III or UBI MONTREAL can GTFO.

We've known that the 2011 game isn't AC3 since the Famitsu article where the Ubi Soft representative flat out said that AC3 wasn't coming out in 2011.
I never caught that quote. To take it further, wouldn't it imply that AC3 wouldn't come out in even 2012 if the art director doesn't even know what it's going to be?

As this will be the end of the trilogy I do hope they take some extra time to make the game. But if they still haven't decided won't we get a 2 year dev schedule anyway?

I get the feeling he wasn't completely forthcoming with all of the details; since he's the lead art designer, he absolutely has to know what direction the game is taking. Since AC3 is probably a long ways off from being officially announced, it's not like he can speak "definitively" on the subject, if you catch my drift.

plz. The story is bullshit Mayan conspiracy garbage. 2012 is the end game of the story as we know it for sure ;)

There's certainly gonna be Mayan 2012 stuff, but in AssBro they hinted at
some dream within a dream kind of stuff.
Knowing this series, i'm not ruling out any weird dramatic twist.

I just want to be able to nerd it out in my city, they included Venice but not its mortal enemy, it's teh bias :(

Given how sickeningly terrible the story is in the series, I guess this wouldn't surprise me.

All I need is a rad set of cities/locations and more special platforming challenges. I try to ignore the story :P

You gotta look awesome when you stealthily kill someone and nobody sees you.

Wouldn't mind Russia in the early 1900s. Especially as communism is the enemy of the Templars.

Hiding under the snow in Russia would be *amazing*

Also, snow would work well within the hardware constraints of the consoles draw distance wise. The grass pop-in for AC2/Bro looks horrendous on the more than capable PC.

The latest Assassin's Creed comic is exactly this.

Good thing Ezio shows the Followers of Brutus up once he gets his wolf pelt armor!

Probably an idea some wouldn't like, but for the next AC "side" game, they should have 3 main cities again, but have each city be in a different time and place with a different character. Let you tackle the places in any order you want, 3 separate stories you have to complete to unlock the final showdown, some random mission as desmond. Maybe even have one of the 3 areas be an italian city again, allow them to reuse some of there assets, and more ezio is always a good thing.

A negative would be having the citys feel smaller overall, and the game would probably be a bit unfocused, but it would allow them to be more experimental.

Yeah they'd have to make a new AC type game then. The world of Assassin's Creed story ends in the year 2012 and that's not near futuristic enough for those locations you posted

would be rad if they did a spin-off series like that though
I'd take a spin off if they are married to their established cosmology, but they could also do a game set entirely in the Desmond "present" and have it take place in Hong Kong, Kowloon is the closest thing to a Syd Mead city in existence.

I'm wondering how much they'll push the animus stuff. In brotherhood you could see with the training mission and the thruth level that they had been working on some cool ideas, if they expand on that concept (and with Abstergo agents now using animus devices) we could have our futuristic/virtual cities.

And now that i think about it, it would be a missed opportunity not to visit Adam and Eve's world.

No, it indicates the article in the OP don't know wtf they are talking about, because obviously Ubisoft must already be working on AC3 and the setting would already be chosen. The guy talked like he wasn't on AC anymore, and it's possible because art directors change all the same on series. He was the AC2 and ACB art director, so he was probably interviewed for the art exposition event in no way related to a future AC. He just said what he would like, doesn't mean anything.

As long as I don't have to play as fuckin' Ezio, I'm down for any setting. I hated Ezio from the start. He's a douche.

The modern storyline stuff isn't very good sure, but I actually enjoy all the historical intrigue. It feels unique if nothing else.

Like a lot of people, I agree that Assassin's Creed would've been better as just a regular historical drama with each new character simply discovering the evidence of his ancestor's exploits. But nooooo! This is a video game, it's gotta be loaded with sci-fi fantasy bullshit!

I'm currently playing Brotherhood and I really like it, but I'm sick of the setting and I can't see how Paris during the French revolution would be any different. The story could be interesting, sure, but the setting itself? I don't know. Nothing beats Firenze.

I just like Altair's subdued personality a lot more. He was old-school arrogant while Ezio just seemed like some random fratboy.

My opinion is invalid though because I got sent to the "hospital" last night. ;)

Female lead would be alright, but that design just looks terrible.

but so incredibly unoriginal.

I love feudal japan as much as the next guy, but I'd like something a bit new. Anything! France, Russian, Mayan apocalypto craziness, i dunno. just not the prohibition times, or japan, or anything that has been done a thousand times in movies and/or video games.

edit: i have a hard time believing they have not decided already on the topic, though. what would team AC have worked on since finishing AC brotherhood? Are they not planning to cash in on their yearly AC release?

I love Ezio because of his relationship with Da Vinci (there was a fucking fantastic bit of dialogue between them near the end of the latest DLC) and the Christina side missions.

Shit was so good.
"I approve"?
I liked Ezio, he was likeable.

Well being flamboyant was the fashion trend of 14th century Italy. If he wore sneaky sneak stuff with minimal clothing, he'd have looked like an odd man out. Besides, you gotta hide all them bombs, knives and Da Vinci's contraptions.

I love the Italy setting (Venice practically had me in hysterics, number one destination dream), but I'm ready to move out of Europe, unless they did like, a Victorian London era assassin. But so many guns there, so I don't know how it would work.

However, people in this thread talking about Russia are making me increasingly interested in a snowy Russian setting for a third game. That actually sounds really awesome!

I would also be totally cool with
Adam and Eve era game with all the crazy god overlords
, haha.

Amir0x said:

Same here, both would be amazing settings. Italy is tired at this point. As someone mentioned above, only European time period I'd want is Victorian London.

Don't know if it was like some sort of intern project name for Brotherhood, but in a French article from Quebec's web site Rue Frontenac, there's an article talking about the whole Ubisoft / Désilets / THQ debacle.

Inside, there's a quote from a localization member that talks about a project called ''ASSASSIN'S CREED FINAL EPISODE''.

http://www.ruefrontenac.com/elections2011/114-technologie/35635-thq-ubisoft-embauche

In English:

Miss Seconnino works in the same department, but she is ''responsible for the localization of a critical project for Ubisoft's line-up, Assassin's Creed Final Episode''.

Again, dunno if that was the codename for Brotherhood or if it's for that 2011 AC game or what. Whatever it is, I'm intrigued.

Finding a good looking female art for Assassins Creed is hard, either its just a female wearing the same clothes as Altair or Eizo or its an outfit that really show of the boobs.

But if a female lead was ever considered, and all they did was to place a female in the same clothes as Altair or Eizo it would be fail, the wardrobe needs to fit a female in my opinion, sure that particular outfit might be over the top for the actual gameplay, but could work during a seduction scene or whatever.

Here is what I talked about. Female, boring outfit.

Female, well outfit looks kinda the same as before, but again its showing off the boobs again.

Victorian London setting would be so boring. No revolution, no riots, no wars... It's basically too peaceful.
A Russian setting sounds good though.

After the Desmond saga ends, I think they should take the AC series into an entirely fictional setting with completely original characters. That way they can create some truly fun to explore areas without worrying about sticking to a historical locale. They can have massively tall structures or buildings with odd architecture. It could be a lot of fun to encounter a world and story that has no basis in reality. The developers could come up with some great platforming scenarios and weird twists and turns in the plot.

Crap, if they do choose South America, it should be in Colombia. We're one of the most important countries over here!

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a female assassin, but it would be awkward for Desmond.

EDIT: Spoiler tag fail.

Yeah, that would be a good way for them to do proper sci-fi like someone suggested earlier. Keep the core mechanics and concepts though.

Lots of action games set in japan already, no need to waste AC3 on it, let them continue to do relatively unused settings.

A Ninja/Samurai game with the Assassin's Creed engine would be unbelievably amazing. But it's Ubisoft, they're a Western dev, Europe makes more sense for them.
