Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag or Watch Dogs or both

Bold statement, considering all the AssCree games that weren't 3 were pretty good.

Have you read the OP? He said he couldn't finish AC1 and Brotherhood due to being bored. Black Flag being the exact same game in a different setting isn't going to change that.

Definitely neither at launch...
Personally I can see them both being a massive disappointment, especially Watch Dogs, it just looks a tad slow and uninteresting.
If I hadn't played any prior Creed games, I'd be all over Black Flag day 1, it looks amazing. BUT AC3 looked amazing, and look how that turned out sooo.

I'm definitely waiting until after launch for both, although if I had to pick one, i'd say AC4.

I want to get both on the Wii U but I'm currently torn on what to get first. I can't afford to get both because there are other games I want to get around the same time and it's hard to make up my mind as to what I want to play more. I don't want AC4 to be just about the naval combat and it looks like it might be. It as enjoyable in AC3 but not so much that I'd want an entire game about it. There are so many unknowns about Watch Dogs at the moment for me as well.

There are still unannounced multiplayer modes for WD? or is it the hack a friends game, run away, then he kills you.

Probably neither for me. I'm still on Assassin's Creed 2. The fact that they make one every year makes me not want to play because I'll never catch up.

Watch Dogs doesn't look interesting to me. I'm going to stick with Killzone, which I think looks incredible and Knack.

So my questions are, what are you picking up, or are you picking up both and your reasons?

That's what I got out of the OP...

Regarding his feelings, it sounds like he's simply burned out on traditional open world games; it sounds like most people in this thread are. If I had a single suggestion for those people, it would be to skip both of these games and go straight into Saint's Row 4, which is a great pallet cleanser for people who like open world games, but are tired of the plodding pace that such games provide.

Got Watch_Dogs preordered at Toys R Us.

Still on the fence about AC4 after getting burned so badly by AC3. Will probably wait for a sale

I wouldn't call Ubisoft open world games traditional though. Over the years they have absolutely mastered lifeless worlds and dull, superficial questing. They're something else and deserve to have an own genre named after them.

You are right, I am tired of open world games especially urban TPS. I am going more towards AC4 because I hardly played the series. I am hoping that over the years they really tired up the gameplay and I do not have that gameplay fatigue that others have. I do have it for urban sandbox, saints row the third I played also, didn't finish it.

I was thinking the environment change with specialized activities like ship warfare is enough to make things interesting enough to get joy out of the game. I see lots of people hate AC3 so I am not confident on AC4 now. I guess I will have a wait and see approach.

I have both preordered with my PS4. Was originally looking forward to Watchdogs more but recent Creed 4 videos look amazing. Love the pirate theme.

Neither. I'm burnt out on open-world games after GTAV. I'm sure there'll be a fire sale for both games before Christmas anyway.

Both but not at the same time.

I think Ubisoft is making a mistake by releasing the two at the same time. I'm really interested in Watch Dogs but I'm a big AC fan and they are just too similar. You could have called Watch Dogs "Assassin's Creed: Watch Dogs" and said it was just AC based in modern times and I would have believed it.

I'll grab it towards Christmas or the New Year.

I think all open world games do what ubi's do, other games just have more personality to make up for it. One of AC3's biggest failings was not making up for the mostly devoid-of-life landscapes with Conner's personality. The fact that there was very little to do outside of towns other than explore and complete quests that have no real bearing on how you do things paired with the fact that Conner himself is very flat, overly serious and hard to like means you get a very boring experience very quickly. Conversely, AC2 may not have had a lot in terms of being able to speak with people in the massive cities you were in, but Ezio's attitude and deminor, the way he carried himself with what few people did live in those cities that were more than cardboard cutouts was what made people want to keep going.

Ubisoft's developers always want to tell a very direct story, not necessarily let the player create their own story like Bethesda does. Perhaps in the future they should create a game series that allows people to create their own characters and cut a swarth through a world that they can create(It sounds that's what most people want AC4 to be, me included), but that's not what Assassin's Creed is, nor does it look like what Watch_Dogs will be. And there's nothing really wrong with that, but it's easy to see how people can get burned out on that.

Now all that being said, from what I've seen of AC4, it seems to be on the right track again, and even if you're sort of writing it off as it being another "Best of Ubigames compilation" you have to remember that the best of these games was REALLY good. So if they manage to capture the magic from all those games and boil it down to one really good 12-20 hour experience, I'm totally on board.

So all that being said, I'm getting both. Because I can. So there.

Getting both. Probably on PS4, I have a good PC but I'm always compelled to play these Ubi games on PS for dem trophies (I guess just because I 100%'d all AC games up to 3).

Not sure which I'll get first, though. I had been leaning towards Watch Dogs since AC3 turned me off to that series so hard, in fact I wasn't going to get Black Flag at all, but... pirates. And piratey music during sea battles.

And pirates.

Have you been paying attention to the thousand demos they've shown of Watch Dogs? It's Assassin's Creed 2014 dude. I'm not making that up. Go watch the demo of the main guy taking out an outpost that reveals everything on the map nearby.
Oh shit, really? Haha, well...

I have Watch Dogs for PS4 pre-ordered (along with Killzone.)

I have a vague assumption in mind that I will get around to playing AC4 at some point, but I'm not excited about it at all. AC3 attacked my AC interest's weak point for massive damage.

I'm getting both. Being a fan of the AC games 4 is an instant buy (more so because of the naval content) but Watch Dogs is going to get played first since it is drawing me in with it being something new.

ps4 for ac4 I can understand... but 30fps watch_dogs? Trophies vs better pc version...

Waiting on reviews for assassins creed for ps4 to decide on that one.
Ive been set on watch dogs since they announced it but like assassins i need to see how similar they are , hopefully the reviews touch on that a bit.

In short, ass creed is a meh waiting for reviews, watch dogs is a hyped but still interested in the reviews to see the similarities.

AC4 because the naval aspect of 3 was the best part of the game.

WD looks meh after GTAV, will wait on that one

but ac3 was critically acclaimed.

Having played Assassin's Creed IV at Eurogamer Expo last week on PS4 --- I'm definitely turned off by that game now and won't be picking it up for PS4 as a potential fourth game (pre-ordered both systems for three games with the possibility of a fourth - Battlefield 4 on Xbox One and ACIV on PS4).

The reviews need to be nothing short of incredible to make a u-turn on the decision.

As for Watch Dogs, I have that on pre-order for PS4 (in fact, I interviewed Jonathan Morin on the game last week at Eurogamer - just got to pitch it to somewhere now).

I know, i much prefer to read through the reviews as opposed to the score, if the game interests me then ill go for it, of course i still check gaf impressions as well.

I got burned by ac3 because i loved the story of the previous titles, so it was an on a whim kinda thing, but now im weary and will actually sift through the reviews and player impressions.

I think I'm done with Assassin's Creed for a bit. The last two were pretty shitty and it's clear the writing and direction is nowhere near the quality of 1 or 2.

We'll see on Watch Dogs. I've never really understood the hype for it beyond the spiffy graphics, and those seem to have diminished over time anyways.

So much hate so much angst.

Watch dogs at launch, someone will buy me ACIV at christmas(parents or girlfriend, they'll sort it out)

They're both very similar in a lot of things, so I'd like to have a buffer game between the two, which could be Shadowfall or Driveclub...

Why do you say that? You can't just say you were turned off by the game without a reason.

It seems like a bad idea to release these two games so close to each other during an already crowded season. But this is the same company that delayed Rayman to release next to GTA V.

I will pass on AC4 and probably get Watch Dogs on the Wii U.

I definitely won't buy AC4 and I have strangely grown uninterested in Watch Dogs. When it was first announced it was one of my most anticipated titles but now I don't even care if I never play it.

I've been waiting a long while for a very good pirate game, and I loved AC2. If they can capture that in AC4, then that's where I'll throw my money.
