Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag PhysX Update

I love those smoke effects, looks more 'next gen' than anything else in the game. Honestly they're not as hardware intensive as they look, they're similar to the Arkham Origin effects and I can max them out on a 560Ti.

This would be great if the gun smoke actually played into the stealth gameplay, and you could escape combat after a blaze of gunfire due to bad visibility.

nice! maybe its time to unlock that frame rate and see if it still goes from 60 to 30 even when your standing still lol

Ubi hasn't addressed performance since the first patch. Well, there may have been some additional optimisations introduced with this patch, but since it hit without a changelog, it's hard to be sure.

Why did they bother adding PhysX when the base game runs like ass in the first place?

the first thing that came to mind when I read this is that your computer isnt powerful enough for this game.

also what was with the last update i had already beat the game a few weeks ago i come back and have a new weapon some kind of knife that i can throw

I really have to wonder that as well, especially since these PhysX effects often had a ridiculously hard impact on performance in past games. Who knows, perhaps no one can even run this at 60fps when these effects are taking place.

Also, honestly... again, as in past titles with PhysX implementations, this to some degree looks over exaggerated and at times kinda shitty. Let's not even talk about how clearly this appears to impact visibility...

Thats a bummer. Still it seems like a fun game, I should really get around to playing it

Ehhhh. Think I'll pass on the PhysX on this one. Looks ridiculous and you can't see anything. Looks better with it off IMO. Regardless, I'm trying to play this game without using the guns/grenades unless absolutely necessary.

Man, it would look so much better if they had used it in a more subtle way. This is just a "look at those effects!" showcase. It's so overblown it doesn't look realistic at all.

The smoke looked great. Looks much more immersive now.

And LOL at the folks saying it obscures your view. That's exactly how would be in real life.

That gun smoke is terrible

I've been to historical gun battles. After a few minutes of musket firing and the odd cannon going off. If it's a calm day. You can't see jack shit. So no, they don't look terrible nor should they be reduced. They are accurate.

looks nice if a little overdone

makes me thankful i've got a second card as a dedicated physx processor

even if the game runs like almost dogshit because of my old cpu

Yup, and it probably sucks not to be able to see in real-life, too, doesn't it? I don't think the pouring of smoke everywhere is considered a desirable effect from these gunshots, are they?

This is a video game. It is not bound by the constraints of reality. We can take out the shitty parts. ;)

But my IMMERSION.

Worse, it's a video game within a video game :o

Well, to be fair he was responding (at least in part) to my claim that it didn't look realistic. And he probably has a point. I guess I should have said it didn't look aesthetically pleasing. Because to me, it just looks like too much.

Waaaay too much smoke even if it looks cool. A flintlock pistol doesn't put out a anywhere near that much smoke.

Those are some very nice smoke effects, but far too excessive and yes, it obviously obscures your vision. Not the kind of realism I'm looking for in AssCreed. That said, it would be funny if the smoke left everyone half-blind and coughing. :D

Looks great but how about you optimize the game before putting out more shit to chug up the frame rate. Last time I played vsync was straight up broken. Fix your shit ubi.

The hit to frames is atrocious.

Maybe Andy or someone can chime in on whether this will require a driver update or a patch to run more smoothly. Because dropping 20fps when coming near a campfire is ridiculous. Batman and Borderlands use PhysX a lot more, and the fps drop is not even close to this.

This needs a patch or driver update ASAP.

That's cool and all but your optimization is terrible. I'm running this on a gtx 670 w/3gb 16 GB ram and core i7 and I'm having bipolar fps. I'll wait and come back to this game on Feb. and see if they fix this mess.

Similar from the update COD Ghosts received.

Cool at first, but not worth the performance hit. Both games run bad enough as it is.
