I don't know, the world in odyssey and origin are really fun to explore. There's lot of work behind this even if it's Ubisoft. And I like loot and gear upgrade as well.

Was watching a few minutes of a Valhalla stream, and the guy died multiple times to a female character called Forforwine, IIRC. Apparently, he had already been stuck fighting this enemy for almost two hours because she is a tank. AC seems to have turned into Dark Souls.
That could not be a problem. But the main difference is that DS has much better controls and a much more rewarding experience for the death system.

No. Assassin's Creed is all about recreating the historic period in detail and being able to interact. They nailed it with the last two titles. If you want silly action game there are other great titles.

Ac 1 Had multiple Cities. Ac2 Had multiple Cities. Ac 3 Had multiple cities. Ac4 had multiple cities.

The idea that 1 city gameplay is back to the original style is silly

With the power the new consoles bring to the conversation, I'd love to see assasins creed return to the single city formula. I can only imagine the level of immersion, with every building enterable, extreme density of detail and high levels interactivity with the environment

Being able to enter every apartment ... after the 5th or so, they all gonna look the same. Same carpet, same furniture etc. Same tasks, steal everything ... find useless memories of the owners.

Skyrim re-used many assets for pretty much every dungeon ... at one point they all looked, felt the same (iirc).

Assa.Crep only exists to milk the cow. It´s the Fifa of RPG, open world games. Also you may wanna change the vote system (remove multiple votes).

i love both for different reasons but if i had to choose i always go with 100+ hr busywork checklist gameplay of the new games. the most fun i've ever had playing an ac game was unity, it just wouldn't stop giving and i was there for all of it, lol.

Actually it's about assassins.
They dropped the ball with the last titels.

I actually miss the originally parry combat. Sure, it was cheap to be able to kill enemies with one hit, and it slowed the combat down, but damn it was fun!

You're still an assassin in the last two titles.
I must disagree. You were an actual assassin in the original. From there on it went straight 'butcher style'. The feeling is pretty must lost for me personally.

This poll has restored my faith that smart people still do exist on a day where a bunch of sheep elected a 47 year career politician who has done nothing and will do nothing for no one except continue to screw minorities like hes been doing with the worst being the crime bill of 94. Not to mention elect a vp who was keeping inmates past their sentencing to use them for free labor. But hey gotta get the trumpster out because we dont like the way he says china. Or maybe they didnt and mass voter fraud was committed with piling evidence being ignored by americans who supposedly value their democracy but hate trump so bad they cant see straight. Anyways glad there are people who realize this new ac beginning with origins is way better than the games before it. Yay.
Why are you stirring that up on a thread about Assassins Creed? Jesus, there are other ways to let out your anger - grow the fck up.

Nope. It's possible to make the map with bigger/more detailed cities without giving up with the open world formula. But not possible if they release a new entry in the series every two years, which they will NEVER stop doing because that is just how Ubisoft works.

Yep, they totally fucked up with these RPGs. I'm not saying Origins and Odyssey are bad gamesbut they aren't Assassin's Creed games.

It's so obvious Ubisoft wanted to make huge open world RPGs and only took this route because they knew the Assassin's Creed name and branding would do wonders (which it has).

To make matters worse they've also alienated the people who want to just play the stories in these games. Not everyone wants to spend tens of hours of their time grinding side content to be able to make their way through the story. If they at least do that at least old Assassin's Creed players would be somewhat at home.

Wasn't the original Formular a more or less open world with a few cities?
My opinion about that, games should never really change that much if they should be new entries to a series. Fans buy those because they want more or less more of the same, just with minor changes.
If developers want to try something new and experiment, they should try a spin of or a new franchise/title.
I really liked odyssey and also AC2, and black flag, but it is always that I miss mechanics they implemented in games before and totally change how the flame works.
As an easy example: if I buy a Fifa game, I don't expect a basketball game.

Small adjustments to proven gameplay is totally OK and acceptable but if the game does feel or play like the predecessor, don't call it the same.

I say keep both formulas.

Take Assassins Cred back to a more polished and evolved version of the original formula.
Keep the historical RPG's coming as a separate franchise and free them from the shitty AC lore, the forced Sci Fi stuff, the forced modern day segments, the obligatory stealth, etc.

While this is true, i think this is more just a way to say that the focal point of the gameplay up until AC3 was by a large amount on the urban environments. There were some parts of the Story in the rural Areas of italy but the main focus were florence and venice, and so was the case with AC1 where the three cities plus Masyaf were the focal points and the holy land in between was basically "for immersion purpose only"...

You're still an assassin in the last two titles.

In Odyssey you did not play an actual assassin and of all the games it was by far "the least" AC game, although i still would consider it not only an AC Game but a very good one as well. But i understand why some people see it differently.

While replaying through the first one this summer i actually was suprised how "not really stealthy" or basic the stealth aspects of the game especially in the assassinations were. some were possible to at least be executed as assassinations (after that all hell broke lose and you either fought or ran around until you came across a hiding spot while being out of sight) but some were just plain "Bossfights". If one liked the stealth aspects there are much better entries than AC 1, because as said suprisingly stealth isn´t a very strong part in the game.

Ubi should make old AC and Nu AC two different franchises.

These new games have barely any connection to assassins/templars/animus.

I understand the point but a single city? This has very rarely been the focus of Assassin's Creed. The first game alone had 3 cities AND an overworld. Most other Assassin's Creed games had multiple cities too, AC 2 even had small towns in addition of the big cities.
I'd like to see a return to the original formula though, possibly improved.

came here to say this

I liked them all really. I did like the Mystery stuff in AC2 the most, but they are always a good diversion for a few weekends. I say keep the current format and expand on it.

i never liked AC but somebody out there obviously and was buying them so kinda throwing that formula away it's kinda of waste, there obviously was an audience for it.
On the other hand, maybe the new audience it's bigger and overlaps somehow so they are compelled to do it this way, after all, some games like Watchdogs have so much overlap mechanically that they might as well be spin offs.

Dude, fuck off! No one wants to hear you embaressing/crazy take on politics in a GAMES thread. Take this shit to the Red Pill or something

I'd prefer a return to the older style with changes of course because doing tail mission after fail mission is terrible.

Modern gameplay in a tightly designed city.

Ubisoft should buy IO Interactive and give the Hitman Team a spin off of Assassin's Creed.

Why are you stirring that up on a thread about Assassins Creed? Jesus, there are other ways to let out your anger - grow the fck up.
I do not control grown men or women and i dont control them from getting stirred up or not. Im just using my ironic political humor to express my opinion about a poll that reflects positively how i feel about ac and its new direction since origins. Sorry youre so outraged but i dont control that either. All free expression. Be well. Moving on ...

Syndicate really did not good in terms of sales and the general tone was "same ol same ol". Then they changed up the formula, Origins sold better and Odyssey outperformed that by far, so the direction seems lucrative.

Absolutely yes. AC was never about how big the worlds were. It was about the variety of things you could do in those worlds.

Hopefully the BC enhancements on AC Unity and Syndicate will open people's eyes to just how much better those games were than the modern ones.

If they didn't make the player so weak when fighting enemies, nobody would have a problem with the RPG system because things like leveling can only make a game more replayable and fun, it gives you something to do or something to go for.

I think it'd be a step backwards mechanically if they go back to the older games, I don't think there would be any incentive other than the story, which may also be worse without the RPG influence. I can see both sides to the argument but I'm just an RPG fanboy.

They should've started a new IP from the get go. All the Assassins Creed crap feels hamfisted in the new games and tarnishes them

personally current AC doesnt feel like AC anymore. feels like witcher 3 clone open world rpg wearing AC name. better ubisoft to create new ip for openworld rpg than riding everything on AC name. they can make a rpg franchise that focused on ancient myth for example. fans want evolution of the formula, but not this kind. and i feel current formula is being held back by AC name.

Nah, i prefer the new direction, they just have to make a good combat system and hire non-shitty writers for pg, main quest and sidequests.

Also upgrade your fucking engine and animations please.

AC kind of lost its initial concept/identity, but looking at how the series has kept growing in popularity, it was for the better.
