No ray tracing to do the heavy lifting, just straight hardwork and talent. The most underrated creed game due to its launch issues.

well, it's not a very good game. so... yeah.

it's essentially AC2 but worse in every way.

I think it still is in top 3 of AC games. And I'm AC fanboy (or maybe I was). The worst element is meaningless story, it doesn't add anything to the series in this aspect but gameplay is proper AC.

Ezio trilogy is still the best (I count this as one game).

Yeah....I agree. The initial reception was bad due to bugs and a not well-thought out coop experience, but from a strictly single player perspective, Unity is one of the better AC games.

Yeah, I just started the game and had to pause to come back here and call bullshit on this 900p nonsense. lol

back to the game. Looks awesome

What happened to Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. I look at Unity almost in tears, because they don't make them like this no mo.

Exactly. I think all the talent left the company and the folks that stayed ain't worth a damn. lol

Ah man.....okay I'm out lol. The story was my number 1 reason for loving these games. :(

I should clarify a bit, in game story is absolutely ok. Political drama, romance etc. It's good.

But problem is that this game adds absolutely ZERO to the main storyline of AC. That's why I was so mad in 2014, even black flag added way more. But looking at it from 2026 perspective... it was the first game that started this trend. You can only say that Odyssey and Valhalla added a lot to the main story, rest of the games added barely anything.

Yeah....going to reiterate what Bojji Bojji said. The story is fine. It is just very much a stand alone one-off tale. The main character is actually one of the best, imo. So yeah, don't let the story be what pushes you away. It's good.

Unity and Syndicate flopped, which is why they rebooted the games in to open world rpg's.
And sales shot up with Valhalla being the biggest selling of them all. In fact i wouldnt be surprised if even Shadows sold more than Unity and Syndicate.

Thanks God I would say. I mean what exactly was funny about AC Unity gameplay? The combat system was extremely laggy and unresponsive, but even in the parkour we are really close to RDR2 input latency. Only the artistic graphic rise it to another league but imagine if this game was also horrid in the presentation, no one would remind it outside to be one of the most underwhelming AC I would say.

Is the game closing or crashing when the console goes to sleep for anyone else?
Rest mode wasn't available on ps4 at the time so this and Watch Dog not support it properly. Speaking which finger crossed for the first Warch Dog update. Would be amazing to replay it.

Hmm, don't recall having this problem with Syndicate. Was rest mode support added with PS4 Pro?
Syndicate was released quite later in the ps4 lifespan. Should be fine. AC Unity and Watch Dog were released quite early.

My favorite AC game

God it looks beautiful in 4K/60. Those animations are just sublime. Game looks better than 90% of the games out there, and even better than Shadows in some aspects imo.

So glad about this patch

You should replay AC 2

I'm replaying the whole series, and AC 2 is kind of ass nowadays. Mission design, gameplay, pacing, it's pretty bad. Story is ok but it had bunch of filler.

Brotherhood tho is still amazing. MUCH better graphics, gameplay, mission design and pacing than 2.

Unity is the bread and butter done right. Arno's story is good enough, gameplay is the best of the old AC games, but the French Revolution setting is the serie's best.

Baked raytracing kek

Also this game was stunning when it released, still stunning now. But as a game? Medicore at best. A huge downfall from the Ezio trilogy and Black flag. Heck I enjoyed AC1 more than Unity. Luckily Syndicate was much better. But man those visuals

Why do you guys think that is or their possible reasoning for it?

I never really followed the over-arching story any way really. Just a backdrop serving as lore. The individual stories are more interesting.
The animus stuff was legit intriguing in the first two games but after that it just felt they had no idea where they were going and just kept padding it out

It really comes down to; what are you looking for in an AC gameplay experience.

For me is mostly about walking down the streets in a place dripping with atmosphere, through huge crowds and stabbing fools in the back of the neck and walking away like nothing happened.

If that´s your jam.... It doesn't get much better than Assasins Creed Unity.

Black Flag is still IMO the best AC ever made, even so is not getting a 60 fps patch, but a remake.

Was for the time a very very ambition game, no one can deny that.

They completed modern story in AC3, after that they didn't really know what to do next.

They figured it out around Origins but it went into nonsense territory in Odyssey and Valhalla, hahaha. Both Mirage and Shadows basically don't have any modern story arc.

And about time too. All i wanted to do was to get back to the main game in those parts.

Gameplay-wise probably the best AC game ever made, graphics-wise I still think it looks better than most AC games, the story is quite shit though. And I don't mean it's bad because it doesn't contribute to the overarching story of the franchise, I mean it's just so mediocre that I distinctly remember thinking "is that it?" when I reached the end. The only reedeming quality it has is the relationship between Arno and Elise.

So basically just other assassins at the time that weren't part of the modern day bloodline they were utilizing (main story wise)?

Wow I completely forgot AC3 existed, thay makes Unity look like a gift from God in comparison

It looks similar to Unity -> it starts as animus "game" when you have fake selection screen for stories. It's how animus from Abstergo would operate in AC lore.

Mirage is a backstory to character from Valhalla, zero connections to modern world that I remember. When it comes to shadows, story in it is so bad that I erased it from my memory, lol.

Anyone remember when I was saying this and people was saying I was crazy, even Syndicate is downgrade and the downgrades continued.
I'd say Shadows is the first time I thought we was actually getting an upgrade.
But like you said there are somethings that aren't
The 4K resolution really shows how advanced Unity was, especially artistically.
Regarding it's quality as an Assassin's Creed
It's up there with AC2 Trilogy and AC3 and maybe Origin's.
I don't do rankings but the ones I mention are good, if they not.....well you know why that is.
And I have reasons.
The original Assassin Creed would be up there if they Remade it to Unitys level.
Outside of the Trilogy (which includes Ezio's trilogy) I really don't rate the rest.
Unity is a standout simple because it's Peak Assassin's Creed and the Present Day part's are swapped out for the time anomalies.
Élise is probably my favourite female Assassin's Creed character too

It looks really good on Series X. It must running at native 4k or near native because I don't think an non-AI upscaler could produce that image if it was upscaling from 900p to 4k. It really brings out the hidden beauty of the game which was hidden a fair bit by that low resolution. I wish my first play through could have looked like this.

Indeed you sometimes have to do a double take to see it's a old game, it sounds funny but theres even little parts in the gameplay that have that 'Nextgen" feel & look to them( like a little flash of it leaking through) then you see the odd low resolution texture in the corner of the screen and it snaps you back to reality, which makes zero sense because it's a early PS4 game.
It's still buggy as fuck though 😂
Anyway heres some more shots

Booted it up on PC last night to have a mess around in the world, and even at Ultra High (which is probably way higher than the console settings) for me the game is starting to show its age graphically.
also the pop in on the npc's, i mean i know there are a ton of them, but its jarring. Also the way they walk on top of things out of nowhere lol, very satrange to watch. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Last year I decided to give it a shot on my XSX and thanks to Sony A95K reality creation it was definitely doable, but the lower resolution was still absolutely visible. Should be interesting to see how it looks now.

I also remember dropping it quite soon, it was just boring to me. Fantastic lighting inside buildings though and the amount of NPCs is amazing too.

Yeah the LOD pop in of the NPCs can be very embarrassing.

I was looking at a comparison, and I noticed that the Series X has some issues with the shadows. Has anyone tested it? Is it always like that?

I remember dropping Unity initially when it came out, waiting for the bug fixes. I came back to it a couple years later, and it honestly was a really good game. I liked both the story and the gameplay of it. I really liked Syndicate too. But everything after that, meh. I've beat Odyssey, Valhalla, and Shadows but I find them to be giant wastes of time in between the action, and the action isn't as fun. The older games were a little clunky with the combat but it was fun and different, these newer games are just copies of everyone else. Basically, the older games had their own combat style that was quirky but fun, the new games have a combat style that's not particularly fun and pales compared to similar action combat games like Spiderman.

I didn't expect it to look this good with a simple resolution boost it looks so clean and the lighting is amazing

Shadows are fine, it looks like a TV calibration / capture calibration black level issue… might be incorrectly set black levels in the game too but I think it would be more something that is a user error than the game being borked (or can be mitigated with system settings on Xbox, game, or the TV).
