Assassins Creed Valhalla - NEW GAMEPLAY - is this a day one purchase?

Is it me or does male Eivor look weird af compared to the previous trailers?

tbh i don´t expect this to push boundaries in terms of gameplay or graphics, but with me being a sucker for AC lore this looks like a sureshot another 100+ hours investment. Day1 ps5 when it launches on november 19th alongside cyberpunk.

So just quick time events and tedious combat?

faces are not great (probably worst than odyssey) but the Vaseline effect in 1080p is a lot less there in 4k (but still present)

not from a technical point of view I guess.
Its just that old England with the dark forest, the castles and all the rain just not looks as beautiful as old egypt or old greece. But if you look at all the details, the foilage, the trees, the clothes, the people, I think it is still pretty nice game :messenger_grinning:
I will buy it, maybe not day 1, but a few months later

Their tech is too long in the tooth now. The lipsync is garbage, and they couldn't even bother to do it properly for the trailer at least, you still see textures/LOD not loading in properly (2:03), you see poor LOD in the distance especially for terrain. It's all just so OLD looking, it's awful. I understand it's still a cross-gen game but sheesh. They really didn't care, just needed to put a game out. For Odyssey & Origins the natural beauty of those places helped overcome technical limitations, as well as being earlier releases. England is just fucking drab looking.

I hope as we get further into next-gen devs do something about the NPCs though, they're all still looking like they're from the 360/PS3 era.

Personally I still dream of next-gen AC Rome.

well it looks old because the engine it runs on is kind of old, since anvilnext2.0 came with AC unity and will have served for 5 ac games (including valhalla) in 6 years (from its first game).

if things repeat with this gen this might be the last entry on the current gen and then the franchise will transition to a new (anvilnext3.0?) one with the following next gen only title.

Yup, I know, same deal for Ghost Recon since they share the same tech. Plus this time when they upgrade it will be with AMD in mind since last time they still half-assed it and was more graphics-focused as opposed to compute-focused as it should've been (it was made with HEAVY Nvidia collabs). It really was a dog shit of a job they did with it all things considered, very disappointing.

I don't think they'll make the same mistake for the next change, plus RDNA 2 will be much easier to utilise fully.

I´m not too deep into the tech stuff but i would assume since they utilize engines for multiple franchises they want the lcd thus compromising performance in certain areas for the sake of "flexibility". i guess that comes with the nature of multifranchise-multistudio publishers who want to maximise profit and streamline processes.

If you saw gameplay of one AssCreed game, you´ve seen them all, ill pick it up in 3 or 4 Years when the complete Version is down to a reasonable price like 15 bucks, just like the last 4 Games.
Not really. The things you do in the games might all be similar but they can change very drastically from game to game in how it plays. Look at Unity----Syndicate----Origins. They all play VASTLY different. Noticeablly so in fact.

I still wish we'd get the parkour of Unity and the combat of Origins in an awesome city.

I'm also not impressed with the game so far from what I've seen. I think they were banking on people just wanting more of Odyssey and kind of mailed it in.

After 30 hours of Odyssey, it was just the same fetch quest or garrison clear. This looks exactly the same. Hopefully it's not also plagued with tedious dialog.

Who am I kidding. It will.

While the game does have a lot of this shite, this isn't strictly true. There's a lot of good stuff in there, too. The mythical beasts, especially.

There's also the naval combat (which I don't personally care for).

It's weird because I've been on a bit of an AC kick lately. Just finished up a replay of Unity, and I gotta say....holy shit what a great game. People really should give it a second chance. I really really loved Origins, thought Bayek was an awesome character and loved Egypt as a setting. Odyssey just didn't resonate with me at all. I just did not care and was playing to finish, not because I cared. I really don't like the direction overall that Odyssey is going in. Origins is a huge departure from the AC formula, but it was still at least close enough. Origins went full RPG and I just didn't enjoy it as much.

I really hope Valhalla takes what's great about Origins and goes back to the older social stealth aspects that have been a big part of the series since inception.

Yes. Unfortunately it's was layered under a blanket of "shite".

Given how dull and rote the past several games have been, I'll wait to hear the opinions of others before deciding whether to buy this or not.

i must admit i am not overly impressed when i watch the video.

Hope its good for Assasin creed fans but i don't sense that Epic feel with the game, its probably just me though.

There's just too much padding under the guise of 'content', in order to achieve the amazing 100 hours plus.

If they cut the shitty fetch quests, repetition and filler, streamlining down to around 40-50 hours, the games would be so much better.

I absolutely loved Origins, definitely my favorite AC games in years, but nothing I have seen of Valhalla has impressed me so far. Seems rushed and very rough around the edges.

I happen to be a woman, Jason, and I like the trend that there developers realize that not all videogame characters have to be supermodels. I have no problem with the gender mechanic, I platinumed Oddysey playing as Kassandra. I'm criticizing the design of this character. The character design wasn't good in the first place, but the implemention is unbelievably awful. At least Eivor looks like a female Viking in the official art ...

... but in the game Eivor looks like a guy. No ifs and buts here, because not a single person would ever believe that the character in the picture below is supposed be a woman. The Eivor above and below look like two different characters.

Agreed. the in game character from what we have seen looks like crap. It does not matter what your gender yada yada.. I wish she looked like the concept art, that one is attractive and makes me want to play as her. The in game model looks like my old High School buddy with makeup on.

I said it when I first saw it and I'll say it now. It's Duke Nukem.

Still waiting for them to get back to Unity graphics.
Just finished a playthrough recently of Unity and I think it's the best looking AC game to date. Playing at 80fps at 3440x1440 and the game is stunning. It easily has the best lighting in the series. The lighting and micro-detail is stunning. It does have issues loading textures on big buildings in certain settings(mainly sync camera shots) but other than that. It's stunning.

For a game from 2014.....It's pretty goddamn stunning. Who wouldn't want to play as French Batman?!? Those are all outdoor shots too, the building interiors are a whole other level of detail.

The parkour too....

i second that but it's also not the same scope at all
wasn't lightning completely baked too ? (but soo good)

Lighting is definitely baked, but I'd wager that's how they got it to look so good too. Plus it's very quick and easy to just change it to whatever time of day you want. And I won't argue the scope may be a bit different, but AC Unity's Paris is like THE gold standard for a video-game city. I'll bet I had more fun parkouring around Paris in Unity than I did as Spiderman in well.. Marvel's Spiderman. City just feels so alive and believable. From hearing the huge crowds singing a French liberty song in unison to just the little coffee girls that roam outside shops offering coffee, the world feels very realized, even if it's only just window dressing really.

If this has no 60fps mode on PS5 I'm not even touching it and I say that as a hardcore fan.
They have strayed far enough from what AC really is, if they decide to add insane tech incompetence to that I'm out.
Ubisoft needs to step up. And soon.
they confirmed 60fps on xbox series x so i'd say it's likely ps5 has the same option. not sure though.

Damn that looks bad.

And man Ubi is so brave only using the female char .. ugh..

Yeah females are so passé, it's trannies now. Ubisoft should wake up and get hip.

Game does look like a downgrade though, and it sucks since its about vikings when they finally have Denmark in it.
