Assassin's Reeeeeeeeee: Black Flag Resynced Previews

My favorite AC game and the last one I managed to finish but it's still difficult to get excited about anything coming from Ubislop these days

This guy is a good maker of passionate but fair deep dive analyses of AC games:

I'm watching this now, will check out some of the ones in OP afterwards for variety of opinion.

Looks lovely (minus modern shit flat gamma), has the added underwater but does seem like its mostly new subtle animations over the top of the same motion capture data, outside the poor looking new content which isnt motion or face captured, funny when you think about it but par for the course with modern AC.

I'm excited for it because I love the old game as is, so new coat of paint is very welcome, but for sure noe I will not buy this at launch, I'll wait for discount.

The performance on PC seems horrible according to him, even if some of the fps drops/stutters were caused by it being streamed it having to be run at 1080p with DLSS Q to get 60fps on a 5080 and Threadripper doesnt bode well.

The only AC game I'll ever buy, lol. I'm actually ready for this one, so ready.
I thought I heard the old man say
"Leave her, Johnny, leave her
It's a long, hard pull to the next payday
And it's time for us to leave her"

Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds don't blow
And it's time for us to leave her!

I pre-ordered it physically for PlayStation 5 Pro and I honestly don't know what to do.

I loved it back in the day and it was my first platinum trophy on PlayStation 4.

I don't know whether to play it or just pass on it.

A new coat of paint is probably not enough me to buy this at launch, maybe when it reach 20 euros.

Ubisoft really need to step up their face rendering and Where are the ripple when the dude swim? even ac origins has that...

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced includes approximately 6 hours of brand-new story content. While the core narrative remains faithful to the 2013 original, Ubisoft has added exclusive missions and features that expand on the lives of several fan-favorite characters.
Ubisoft +3

Expanded Story & Missions
  • Endgame Epilogue: A new series of 8 endgame missions follows Edward Kenway as he faces off against a historical pirate hunter (likely Robert Maynard).
  • Character Arcs: New story chapters provide deeper closure for characters like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, occurring after the original main story wraps up.
  • Recruitable Officers: You can recruit three new officers for your crew, each featuring unique side quests and granting new gameplay abilities for naval combat once recruited.
  • New Locations: The map features new islands and additional side missions scattered throughout existing Caribbean locations.
    YouTube·ACV +7

Gameplay Additions & Quality of Life
  • Ship Pets: Players can now choose between a cat or a monkey as an official pet for the Jackdaw.
  • Modernized Exploration: You can now crouch on command and dive underwater anywhere in the world, no longer restricted to specific diving bell zones.
  • Naval Upgrades: New secondary fire modes have been added for all ship weapons, such as a double shot for broadside cannons.
  • Redesigned Missions: Infamous "tailing" and eavesdropping missions have been reworked to be more forgiving; detection no longer results in an automatic desynchronization.
  • New Collectibles: Includes 10 brand-new sea shanties and a dedicated photo mode.

Omissions from the Original
  • No Multiplayer: The original game's competitive multiplayer has been removed to focus entirely on the single-player experience.
  • No Previous DLC: The Freedom Cry expansion and other original DLCs are not included in Resynced.
    Ubisoft +3

  • Key Feature: Full ground-up remake in the Anvil engine with ray tracing and 60 FPS
    Ubisoft +4
Lots of details. Not just a fresh coat of paint.

Sounds like a solid amount of new content for a non-rpg game.

People that played it before might be on the fence but I've never played the original.

the more i see the more im kinda lukewarm on it. my main gripe is the melee combat looks shit, and parkour looks the same ol same ol. was hoping or a reimaging there i guess. boat stuff and cutscenes look good tho

I like to play good single player Pirate game but I dont want Assassins Creed game.
This is how I feel but I'm willing to give it a try since it is an older game.

After I made that decision I have been watching sea shantys and now I'm excited.

so? Also one of my favorite games ever.
I'm with you. First game I purchased for PS4, played it to death with the exception of the multiplayer am not a fan of any MP.

Also if they're letting all these fucking influencers play it just release it next month, don't wait till July.

For me this pretty much still AC game with Pirate theme as backdrop.

I want actual single player Pirate game which would have nothing to do with AC and its world.

The more I see the less I care. Not sure why. Guess I'm not very nostalgic for Ubislop I already played.

Fresh coat of visual paint aside, it is ultimately another one of those open world map vomit games, I understand the lack of enthusiasm since we've already played this.

I basically did all the sailing and upgrading the boat stuff, finished that last mission at the bottom of the map, then quit. I don't remember a thing about the main story other than the opening scene.

Not sure I like the new character models. They look more youthful and less rugged. Some like Charles Vane and Jack Rackham look too clean even.

This is not an improvement. Left looks like an actual pirate you wouldn't wanna mess with. Right looks like a dandy ol' chap you'd play golf with.

It's definitely not a Diablo 2 situation where core game was so good it was worth jumping back into. Plus the visual upgrade was transformative in a massive way due to the age of the title… plus all the QOL updates.

Yeah, I don't like the new color palette. It's overly bright and cheerful. I get that this is the Caribbean, but the original struck an awesome balance between the sunny beaches and palm trees and the grimy and rugged piracy.

This one just looks like a Club Med cruise.

But what if I've never played it? The last AC I played was AC2 (lol) and I found all the new ones too bloated. Was always put off by the reviews and mid AF cut scenes.

Would this be worth checking out then? Seems to be less bloated, better combat, more fluid, proper motion captured cutscenes and tons of QOL…

Assuming the visual upgrade isn't a botch job, yeah, definitely worth checking out if you never played. It's very good.

I fucking love AC4 but I'm hopeful for Ubisofts downfall. This one may have to be a pirate.
You'll pirate a game you like and want to play because you want the company that made it to fail? How does that benefit anyone or even make sense? Maybe support it and they will make more like it? Some of you are so caught up in made-up wars you've lost touch with reality.
