Okay, I'm going to be specific as I can. Do any of those include:

-Fighting with elemental properties (fire, water, wind, etc.)
-A quest with several allies
-One on one fights with strategic use of supernatural abilities
-Transformations

What am I describing? Something typical of anime and manga. That is where my interests lie and if there is any novel with all 4 of these points in it, I will ehck it out in a heartbeat.

Has to be a poe. Has to be.

Well if we're talking about stuff I had to read for school, then Animal Farm is included, which I also disliked. If we include school stuff, I've read several other books and mythological stuff like the Odyssey.

OK, I see where you're coming from now. I was thinking of a different type of writing.

It's good that you have some aspirations. Don't mean that as a joke. I hope you have some success if you choose to pursue it.

Maybe just personal success, like a small feeling of satisfaction. I dunno.

Okay, I'm bailing out. I know I'm gonna get banned if I continue so let's just say I'll look into some of the stuff people have suggested. I'm out.

That's what I think of as well.

Cosmic, where did you go to school? You weren't forced to read Shakespeare? Edgar Allen Poe? Greek mythology? Norse mythology such as Beowulf? The Diary of Anne Frank? 1984? Brave New World? Lord of the Flies? Dante's Inferno? Animal Farm?

We were forced to read these within our curriculum in middle and high school and I got great enjoyment from it and eventually branched out.

I was as well.

Then i recommned that you read good crazy supernatural shit.

Until i discovered Hurston, Allende and Morrison(oddly enough all women minority authors), i also only really liked the supernatural stuff, but even then there are plenty of quality works of that sort.

Good places to start if you want to be a bit modern:

Steven Erickson
China Mieville
GRR Martin(you MUST read Sandkings)

Old stuff:

Herbert
Heilein
Asimov

My favorite Asimov story is The Last Question

Just wanted to randomly throw that out there.

Sigh.

Chinese classics.

Journey to the West (Saiyuki, Dragon Ball were influenced by this) would be highly suggested. It has extremely colorful writing and never gets boring and features pretty much all of this. It has a talking monkey who causes havok in heaven; stealing and looting everyone's booze till he gets fat and drunk with alcohol.

Fun read.

You're right. They got pictured versions for kids and everything!

Or Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. That book was so rad.

Yeah, plain old books will never capture the emotional range and complexity of the story told in Naruto and Bleach. I Understand man.

DIAGNOSIS: ASPERGER'S

MotB would be nowhere near as good without the dialogue choice. SH2 wouldnt be as good without you being in the town, facing monster of the PC's own twisted psyche (though better VO would be appreciated). Witcher isnt as affecting if it isnt you making the morally ambiguous choices. SS2 isnt as gripping if you arent actively fearing something silently crawling up behind you.

Plus Witcher has decent enough gameplay.

Perhaps dull was the wrong word.

The gameplay of some of these do not interest me, and thus i have not had the pleasure to experience the stories/writing, and probably never will because while i can suffer uninteresting writing, gameplay is another matter altogether.

It's a pretty sizable crowd, but it is mostly people who cannot get into his writing style.

Eh, Non-fiction doesn't really fly with me. And like I said before, it needs crazy supernatural antics for me to find it interesting.

Hey the guy wants to write bad comics. Nothing wrong with that. Someone has to do it.
I now understand his posts in the manga thread so much better. Like how he ardently believes that no manga artist plans out their series at all? Its because he himself can't and projects that on everyone else! Or how he hates when plot interrupts the action? Its because he can't write the plot and its occurence destroys his dream of writing Naruto: The Next Generation.

I'll start with Journey to the West. Thanks for the recommendation.
You know The Inferno pretty much fits your description?

edited for nitpickery.

No you couldn't have. There was no way to complete the game other than following through with that one choice. The developers even went out of the way to make you think you had a choice only to rip it away from you and then force you to spend 5 boring minutes to enact their choice. It sucked and was rather arrogant on the writer's part.

Sure you could. That was the end of the game. There technically wasn't anything after that (the epilogue DLC not withstanding). You could have just walked your character to the entrance to the canyon and turned off the console, saying to yourself, that's it, I beat it.
The prince turns his back on Erika and continues his journeys.
You're really not missing any more of the game that way with the exception of a single cutscene. The developers through out the bait and you took it. Sounds like they did a pretty good job to me.

Whoa, hold on a second. I was only talking about Kubo and all of us agreed that's true. There's no way Oda doesn't plan out his story. I just don't think someone like him (or any other mangaka for that matter) has EVERYTHING written out. If they did, that means they would've written the entire plot before they even started drawing chapter 1, which isn't unheard of but it isn't common either.

on the other hand: a sophisticated and completely consistent troll is indistinguishable from a crazy, and there is no danger in regarding them as functionally identical.

But the thing is Witcher and SS2 at the very least dont have dull gameplay. Not to mention most of those games integrate story and gameplay is one way or another.

I highly suggest the original English translation of the story titled Monkey. It features colorful and lively writing, courtesy of the amazing Chinese translator Arthur Waley. Some of the stories from the original were taken out of this English version, but this doesn't affect nor hamper the quality in any way.

And now I'm seriously done in this thread. I know Dragona is just waiting to ban me. I'm not even gonna look in here anymore so I won't be tempted.

I don't think you've done anything worthy of being banned, unless Dragona does it out of pure fear :lol

Well since you are being so persistent, maybe i will dig up my copy of Witcher and give it a try, but i am not optimistic.
