Atari announces Ready 2 Rumble Revolution (Wii)

Ready 2 Rumble Revolution features a roster of 18 wildly caricatured cartoony boxers based on celebrities from the worlds of sports, music and movies.
Does it have to be?

...

And if it does, can't it have better celebrities? I mean, Simon Cowell? :\

So this game has resurfaced... I think it was first announced by 10tacle Studios back in 2007, but as the publisher sort of collapsed I supposed it had been canned. I guess Midway still owns the characters as they used Afro Thunder in TNA...

I reallt don't understand.

I thought Facebreaker had an atrocious artstyle, especially when compared to Ready 2 Rumble 1 (2 was a bit more questionabl), yet this game, a legitimate sequel to R2R, manages to look worse.

I can deal with technical mediocrity, or even a unremarkable artstyle, but this right here is downright ugly, killing any excitement I had for the game.

:'(

Being based on USA "celebs" lookalikes, I predict this game will sell 0 copies in Europe and Japan

If that IS David Hasselhoff being parodied, then the game will sell 10mil copies in Germany.

Interesting

If you could put in the game an European "celeb" look alike, which one would you include?

Also, for localization purposes (if any, that's it), downloadable characters for each zone would be nice (I know I am dreaming)...

Damn right. And actually, I want to punch Simon Cowell in the face. That's awesome.

Simon Cowell is british theres plenty of people in the UK who would like to beat him up. Mostly ex contestants on his show. But still....

It's like they threw all the art style in the bin. Looks like Midway should have held on to the francise. =/

its bad enough to use C-list celebrities like Simon Cowell, but you can't even get their actual likeness and have to create a bootleg simon cowell?

the Dreamcast character models are solid and spot on full of character design goodness.
Anyone in 1999 who went shopping and saw this for the first time were awestruck and by it's awesomeness back in the day.

Gah, so many memories of Ready 2 Rumble on the Dreamcast are now flowing back to me.

What has become of this series?

i think facebreaker has pretty much r2r's character style.

AKI is still alive! :)

But they're not making a wrestling game. :(
I believe AKI never disappeared, but they changed their name a while ago, to syn Sophia. No idea why this isn't mentioned in the press release? syn Sophia recently developed Girls Mode for Nintendo.

At least in my case, I was thinking more artisically than technically.
I agree on that 100%, but I just don't like it when people seem to deliberately forget what DC (and many PS2) games looked like for the sake of a "lol wii graphics" joke.

Facebreaker certainly was closer to R2R's original artstyle than this thing is. It really shows.

Facebreaker was too much though, went too far for my taste. R2R hadn't the greatest artstyle ever to me, but at least it was tolerable and didn't detract from the fun.

Honestly, those gameplay vids don't look horrible. It actually does seem to play like the old R2R.

Looks miles better than Facebreaker.

But seriously, this game comes out exactly at the same time as Punch-Out!!

WTF would be the point of buying this?

I was about to click away from this thread, once i saw the pics of the guy that looks like Bob from Fight Club, but then I noticed that the game is being made by AKI. Now i must at least rent the game.

While this doesn't look good, you obviously haven't seen the DC original in a long time.

These Looks worse than DC/PS2 posts are really old, people have some shitty memories on what DC and PS2 games really looked like.

They probably had to pay 80% of the game's dev fee just to get Simon to say yes when asked to be a character, if they get bad sales that's a lot of lost money :lol

doesnt look bad at all, after reading the responses in this thread. :lol

Im a 3d character modeler and I love to see exaggerated designs in characters. It makes them more interesting.

EDIT: The gameplay looks even much better than Punch Out Wii. :lol

Only thing left is 'motion-plus'? hope it controls good if there is no motion plus.

There are a lot of boxing games coming to the Wii lately. This one's art is like a cross between FaceBreaker and Punch Out!!. Too bad Gametrailers is being crap right now and won't load the videos past a certain point...

2 walkthrough videos up on gametrailers

looks good, the entire time i watched it, i'm thinking motion+, then i get sad
