Atsushi Inaba (Clover Studio / Capcom) Interview (in french) :
http://www.jeux-france.com/articles_dossiers244_interview-viewtiful-joe.html

Here's some interesting quotes translated into english :

So what is now your next project ? Have you already thought about it ?

Atsushi Inaba : Right now we are working on Okami (PS2) which has already been announced, we are also working on an unannounced title but I can't talk about it.

What do you think about the Nintendo Revolution ? Do you think that a Viewtiful Joe game could work with this console ?

Atsushi Inaba : It is clear that we are really interested in the Nintendo Revolution, so we hope to create a game for this console. Now, if the Viewtiful Joe characters and the Viewtiful Joe world fit well wih the specs of this hardware, then we could indeed create a Viewtiful Joe game on Nintendo Revolution. But if it doesn't fit, we will try to make the best game that we can on Nintendo Revolution.

Clover Studio is one of my favorite game makers :D I hope they will make great games on next gen hardware

Okami seems like a perfect fit for Revolution really...well...perhaps a sequel at least.
From what I played, it was pretty hard to draw lines using the controller...it would probably work much better on Rev, and they could expand the feature and make it more sophisticated. Assuming Okami doesn't suck/bomb and we never see a sequel.

Bleh at whoever asked for VJ, new IP FTW!
I'd also hope for a new IP, but this is good news either way :)

Revs 3rd party support is doing pretty well already.

Would be awesome :)

Mikami should just go work for Nintendo ... I mean shit it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Nintendo set up one of their studios to make edgier types of games in Japan.

If Nintendo were smart they would do anything to make this man happy like they did with Masahiro Sakurai. If he wants a new studio and for Nintendo to pay the wages of his team then do it. In my book this guy has never dissapointed in the directors seat.

Nintendo prides themselves on not doing anything logical.

Didn't he direct PN03?

Killer 8 Revolution thanks.

Yes, but it couldn't be called Killer8... that was already released, haha.

Killer9 sounds stupid though, hmmm...

ehh, too tired to come up with a good title though

Good to hear. I really enjoy their titles.

It would be really nice to see an Ookami game on the Revolution. The PS2 demo I played is great and all, but it was kind of awkward.

Too bad that game is probably going to bomb in the US :(

Why some of you talk about a SEQUEL about a game which in first place isn't even in the street?
Why some of you expect certain already existing games to appear in the Rev? I'm the only one awaiting new concepts and IPs? Seems some people only want to play the same games with a different control method, and I believe that's missing the whole Rev point.

Wont be a launch title.

How many third party games are we expecting for launch?
I'm thinking tumbleweeds and shoddy EA sports titles.

Man, Nintendo is suuuure gonna lean on their VConsole program for the launch lineup.

"Revolution: Biggest lineup of all time! 315 games, Day 1*"

* 6 of which are new.

Its really hard to say. I could see many projects/concepts that were perhaps PS2/XBox/GC but ran late having moved to Revolution probably for a while now.

I also believe Nintendo will indeed position Zelda: TP as a launch title for the Revolution ... in which case, they basically have their launch window taken care of if they provide a few more games to go with it.

Yea, I'm not too worried about Nintendo having their own supply ready.

But I feel like they need to launch strong from a third party standpoint right off the bat, in the very least for perception.

I mean, sure, third party got A LITTLE better on the GC than N64, but still way lagging behind the competition. They have to position the Rev as a viable console that is going to have a steady release schedule from all publishers.

If they fail to get off on a strong foot with releases right on Day 1 with other developrs, they are going to have that stigma again. "X360 launched with 12 3rd party games... PS3 launched with 16... Rev launched with 4, NO SUPPROT DOOMED NO GAMES" yadda yadda all over again.

Killer 7 was developed by Grasshopper was it not? Who we already know have a boner over the Revolution. Suda51 said he wants to make a game more violent then Killer 7 for it IIRC.

I can't wait to see what Clover come out with for the Rev, they were one of the few devs taking a different apporach to games this gen (before the 3 million VJ sequels)

Aye, but I think Mikami and other Capcomers here had producer credit on the game as well.

And I don't know if Suda said "more violent" than killer7, but he def said it would "surpass" Killer7... which in itself would be a hell of a feat.

While details are a secret at this point, he tells us that we can expect something extreme, in line with what one expects of a Grasshopper title. The game will focus heavily on direct input through the controller, and will, he promises, exceed Killer 7.

Right you are, I was remembering the extreme part ... which I assume is refering to violence

Well, if CONTACT is as good as it appears to be, then hopefully Suda can cement himself as a serious director. Killer7 was so good, I'm really looking forward to his Rev game - hopefully Capcom will pick it up again.

I'd prefer a new series too though I think a Viewtiful Joe game with Matrix-type effects that can be manipulated by wrist/hand motion would be cool as shit too (speed up/slow down time by moving the controller up or down and the game speed corresponds directly to it).

Indeed. Hopefully we see at least a port to help recover from inevitably lower than expected PS2 sales a la VJoe.

I think low sales will give them less incentive to port it, but if it sells well they also might not port it since we're so close to the next generation. Either way I think GCN only owners are screwed.

You sir, are absolutely correct.

I dunno, it definitely seems to be bigger budget project than Viewtiful Joe was and that game got a PS2 port thanks to lower than expected sales (even though it had moved almost 600k worldwide, which is stunning for a 2D sidescroller these days). Porting's always cheaper and with Clover Studio be fiscally responsible for their own R&D, I could definitely see a quickie Revolution port with "wand drawing" added.

Killer 7-2 with Jpop dancing Kaede.
I second this! :D

Actually I like the idea of using a sub title instead of a number to mark a sequel. You know...Like "Killer 7: Born in Blood" or some crap like that. Makes it easier to keep track of games in the case that some sequels don't make it over from Japan (see: Final Fantasy) and you get the bonus of not sounding like a sequel title.

yea, but then it just sounds like an expansion pack or a add-on, not a totally new game.

Which, with that kind of stigmatism, makes it hard to justify a $50 purchase for "just an update"

I am, though. Who knows if Shiggy even got off his ass with Mario 128 by now. And no way will we see SSB at launch, unless we want a half assed rushed sequel.

Why would a SSB game take so long to make?

Add some new characters, some new stages, soup up the graphics a bit ...

I mean its Smash Brothers, its not a freaking Zelda game, if I'm Iwata, I'd tell the programmers to shut up and have it finished by November, no excuses (OK, so Iwata would do it more diplomatically than that ...).

You do realize that SSBM took 2 years to make, right?

The gap in N64 hardware and GCN hardware will be much larger than the GCN and Rev ... they can just build Smash Bros. Rev directly off the GCN engine.

There's absolutely no excuse for this game missing the launch window.

They just started in October. If Rev. launches in November 06, they've had only about a year to finish this fucker. Adding new characters, levels, modes, ONLINE MODE, I don't know if it's gonna be that simple.

Which is exactly why Iwata decided to throw a lot of money at Sakurai and open him his own development studio. Nintendo knows they have a lot riding on SSB Revolution, they wouldn't have gone to so much effort to woo Sakurai back if they didn't.
