ATTN: KONAMI. Delay your damn MGS4 Strategy Guide damn you

Yeah I'm thinking I'll tread lightly the first few weeks of June on gaming message boards. MGS is my favorite gaming series and I've managed to stay on blackout besides the trailers released on the MGS4 Saga disc that came with the pre-order. Haven't looked at any of the new screens or anything.

Holy crap.

True to the tradition of the series, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a game full of imaginative secrets bound up in a complex narrative. The secrets include hidden areas, Easter Eggs, alternate cut-scenes, bonus items, concealed game modes and undisclosed button combinations. The secrets and narrative represent the game's true genius and its replay value and these are the raison d'être of this guide. With the aid of complete top-down, satellite-style maps, the Walkthrough (written for the extreme difficulty level and therefore covers all settings) leads you through the entire game covering all optional tasks and secrets as these become available. At over 200 pages, the guide also includes dedicated chapters on Equipment, Secrets and Metal Gear Online.

Yeah, sounds like FUCK-SPOILERS total. :/

It's amazing that they're releasing it early when they've gone through a lot of trouble to keep everything locked down before the release, including having reviewer sign contracts to not spoil the story.

Releasing a strategy guide before the actual game might be one of the dumbest things ever done in the history of videogames if they actually go through with it. There is no game out there more appealing to spoil for douchebag trolls out there than MGS4 at the moment.

Never understood why they release before the game. Hell, I don't understand why they exist period, since you can find alot of guides online for free.

Well i'm making sure to not go online that week and up until I get MGS4. I'm scared to log into my messenger since sometimes people put up damn spoilers!

Delay it for fucks sake >:(

The key to understanding the first part is hidden in the second part of your post.

By not shipping it.

You're asking retailers not to ship, because the customers will spoil the game-story.
They just want to line their pockets.... I don't think they will sacrifice money to make sure that the MGS4-story won't be spoiled 'til June the 12th.
That's a ridicilous excuse for them to delay the guide.

Who the hell thought this was a good idea? Seriously? Its like they have no respect for the fans.
Of course they have no respect to the fans. Money comes first in this life, respect comes second (or third etc who knows)......

When I asked at GS when picking up GTA4, they said the MGS4 guides were street-dated (just like the GTA4 guides) and (at least) they wouldn't be selling them before 6/12.

Of course, that doesn't mean some yokel working at Wal-Mart won't put them out early and then the internet will be shut down.

The first place the spoilers will hit is Gamefaqs. 100%. It happens every time. Stay off Gamefaqs, Gametrailers, youtube comments, etc. It's going to be a pretty awful week before MGS4, thank god there's NG2 to play. :D

How would delaying it a week sacrifice any money? Except maybe from someone who wants to buy it just to spoil it on the net

Will I be safe on GAF though? That's the only place I'll visit.

No promises, I might not be visiting much in that week myself because of the possibility of a spoiler attack. But anyone who spoils intentionally will be permed, I'm pretty sure.

Well you guys are acting like the story isn't going to be spoiled before the 12th, if it were not to ship.

I can guarantee you that some idiot will get their hands on the copy of the actual game early and spread all the spoilers over the internets (especially from somewhere like somethingawful)

Bail out of the internet, if spoiler bug you so much, as fast as you can. NOW.

Probably, but you still run the risk of running into an account suicider and people posting them in the back of random threads

That's what I'm afraid of.

Being spoiled for a game I've been waiting almost 4 years for is gonna be pretty fucking devastating.

totally ot, but i just pre-ordered to l.e.

woohoo

I'd kill for the LE, but shipping is gonna cost me like $150, so..

;_;

Guides usually come early and no one really cares if you get spoiled.
I'm really glad MGS3 was as bad as it was because I'm not worried about anything at all for MGS4.

This is awful considering it has been what, 7 years since the cliff hanger ending of MGS2. Thank god for Ninja Gaiden 2 I suppose. This is another reason why I want to get the game sooner, its such a tough wait :(

Those guys who would buy the guide just to spoil the story to the net are simply jack-asses! Forget about them!
Stay away from the usual treacherous sites, where people spoils shit!
-There are people who just want to make some home-work about MGS4 and get prepared, thus they will buy the guide.
-There are others who want to satisfy their MGS4-curiosity & MGS4-appetite, thus they will buy & read the guide.
etc...etc...

Like the mods said, perma-ban everyone who spoils MGS4 story in here.....
Perhaps a progressive measure for this forum, do not apporve any junior members from June the 3rd to June the 12th (you know account suiciders)!

Well, Prima is, yeah. I don't know if it makes you all feel better or worse, but the guide went to print this week. I don't know it that's early, late, or right on time for a June 3 release.

I feel sorry for the guys who will be queing up at midnight for the game. Jackasses will walk into the store, pick up the guide, and yell out spoilars.

Yeah, somehow seeing some idiot who obviously doesn't give two shits about his account get permed after spoiler a bunch of people just wont cut it. You're being naive if you actually think someone out there wont go through great lengths to spoil the ending of MGS4 for the people that actually care about the story, just look at the people that actually drove around in a van and screamed the major Harry Potter spoilers.

Not saying it'll come to that, but I'm sure someone out there WILL try their hardest to spoil the game, and when you've been spoiled, there really isn't no going back -- you're fucked.

Thank you.

Media blackout on the guide for sure!

Anyways I'd only pick up the guide after 1 or 2 complete plays, just to see the stuff I missed.

Well, considering how physically violent MGS games are, those trolls run the risk of being permbanned from life. :lol

Yah, malicious spoilers = permaban. There will be an announcement when the time comes.

Story or gameplay? Because the events that took place in MGS3 were awesome. Gameplay...not so much.

is any mod actually willing to wade through spoilers when the time does come, though? Hardest job in the world come June 12.
