The only bright side of this would be if they got someone who was into Anime but also dealt with more of the console space. I love the four guys to death but it's definitely a PC heavy group.

Dammit Austin! First you make me cry last week with the Friends at the Table finale and now this?

Whoever replaces him, I hope they're as intelligent and enthusiastic as he was. I don't care what his next project is. I'm there day one.

Someone call Gita Jackson

Noooo! Don't disrupt Match 3!

Well, that's a bummer. 50+ podcast episodes, dozens of videos, one GOTY season, one massive scoop, and one (...was he hired before or after E3 2015?) E3 later, it feels like his time at GB was far too short. He definitely became a big part of my love for the site, assimilating beautifully while also changing it for the better. We were far from the point of diminishing returns with him. This sucks.

But yeah, It was great having him around, and he's leaving the site a better place. I'm sure this next chapter of his life is going to be an exciting one, and I wish him all the best.

I'm too sad and tired to really process this thing. Austin is going to be awesome at whatever he does, but it will leave another hole in Giant Bomb that won't be filled, only built around.

Austin, if you see this, you have made Giant Bomb a better place and I can't wait to see what you do next.

Damn, I wish him luck but this will leave a hole in the Beastcast, and he offered a unique perspective that will absolutely be missed across all of Giant Bomb.

Austin is great and going to be missed. But this is not a layoff this is him going another path. So this leaves an opening.

Time for a female member. It's overdue. Out of the NY office would be good. The beastcast is a different tone than the bombcast...this would continue that.

It's always the ones that bring variety and a open mind that end up leaving Giant Bomb early. I'll deeply miss his absence on future VinnyVania streams, the trio gelled together perfectly.

Austin brought unique experiences, unique taste in games and an incredibly thoughtful presence to GB. His laugh, his roleplay with Vinny, his writing, his overseeing of the guest contributor program, his passion...

Man. I wish him the best, and really really really hope GB can find someone to fill this void.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him at this year's PAX East and then again at IndieCade East. Dude drew one hell of a crowd at the latter place and was chill at the former when I ran into him while on a break with an up and coming Youtuber who's name escapes me.

I wish him nothing but the best as he's been a unique voice on the Beastcast. I should really go read all those guest columns and listen to those interviews at some point. Since he's staying in NY, at least it won't be goodbye since it's a small world.

I'm still too tired to really process this outside of, "Another cool Giant Bomb person who brought really unique skills and tastes is leaving, again" and it's really depressing even if I know Austin's smart and talented enough to do all sorts of stuff and succeed.

Same. He's super talented and smart and I fully believe he'll have success at whatever he moves on to but damnit, I'll miss him. He was a great complement to Vinny but also fit in super good with the West Coast crew whenever they did stuff together. I'd been putting off that Warhammer video because it was long and I wanted to play more Overwatch before slowing that down a bit to watch E3 vids but guess I need to dig into it now.

He will definitely be missed. Until he says otherwise I'm just assuming he's going to go off and become an anime.

It was tough watching the staff come back and launch into the talk about Austin leaving. It took me too long to realize after the initial jokes about an annual performance review that it was no longer a bit and that he was indeed moving on.

What a year it has been though as a GB fan. Austin had such a great chemistry with the Beast crew and he will be sorely missed for what he brought to the site. Wish him the best of luck for what he is going to be doing next!

Happy for Austin since this sounds like what he wants to do, but he's a big part of what made the Beastcast so great and after only a year it feels too early to say goodbye to his GB tenure. Really enjoyed hearing his thoughts on the industry and games, and I'll be sure to keep up to date with what he does next. I hope he's able to drop by the podcast every now and again.

This is fucked, he was becoming a quick favourite and was key to what made GBeast blow west out of the water these past few months.

Dude brought a vital perspective on things that's going to be sorely missed. For as surface level as the site can be I really enjoyed Austin's tendency to go deeper on topics from social or political perspectives. It's the kind of depth the site had been missing and makes the beastcast so great.

Edit; and his championing of diversity and calling that shit out, in addition to being really open to engaging the community.

GB is worse off honestly, this sucks.

Agreed.

Austin is great and it really sucks that he's leaving but he is on to something different and I will definitely follow him.

I don't agree that GB is worst off, It just means that we will have someone new and that isn't a bad thing.

I doubt it does but I hope this has nothing to do with some of the assholes who have been hating on Austin since day one...

He was such a great addition and above all I love how he brought out a side of vinny and Alex that I had never seen before..

Best of luck Austin!!

Aw man, he did a lot in the time he was at Giant Bomb. Sad to see him go.
I have come to really, really like him. Will follow him around. Best of luck.

Well shit he was the best thing that happened on GB in ages

Sigh

Aw man, I was hoping this would be some practical joke on Twitter damnit. Good luck with whatever you're doing next, Austin! It'll be hard to find a replacement for you.

edit the fuck is "glixel"

I dont know anyone that could fill his shoes. Please not Bakalar, hes cool on the beastcast but I dont think he has a very engaging on screen presence.

That sucks, I feel he only really integrated with Giant Bomb's onscreen/mic presence completely recently, sure he was there and trying, but I feel it was only this year that he really slotted into their rhythm. I'll miss his articles and the hot Gundam/other mecha goodness he cultivated.

I can only wish him luck where he goes.

Well I really liked what Austin brought to GBeast. I wish him well and hope that his new job will allow him to finish his thesis.

Would love to see Gita Jackson as a replacement, but that won't happen.

What you said. This sucks.

This sucks. He was sorely what GB needed.

He seemed like the only guy that, when things got complicated or specialized or intelligent, instead of sticking his fingers in his ears and cracking a joke about how all that was way over his head, would instead listen, learn, engage, and question.

I love the rest of the guys, but they could learn from Austin's inquisitiveness.
