Australian Gaming Awards (DS FTW!)

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
The Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) announced today that Australia's interactive games industry posted sales of $861million in 2005. The popularity of computer and video games continues to grow, with a 5% increase in sales over calendar year 2004.

Statistics comled by independent market research group GFK Australia show that sales of video console games grew by 5% in value over 2004, personal computer games sales grew by 10% and sales of video game console hardware grew by 9% in 2005.

"In a highly competitive sector, video games continue to increase share of the consumer entertainment dollar and these figures highlight the consistent year onyear growth of the interactive games industry" said IEAA CEO Chris Hanlon.

Last Friday Night (24th Feb), the stars of the interactive games industry were recognised at the inaugural IEAA awards held at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney. The awards acknowledge the sales and marketing achievements of the interactive games industry in a gala black-tie function.

A handheld that was out for nearly 10 months outsold one that was barely out for 4! This is amazing news and we must celebrate this immediately!!?!?!

EDIT actually its been longer than that...

DS came out February 24th, 2005

Yeah but the last we heard was that the PSP out sold the DS, by a mile at launch and by the way its in the shop one would think the DS would be losing, The PSP is everywhere here, and the DS is non existent. And GTA and NFS have been sitting at the top of charts.

Isn't Nintendogs pulling off amazing figures there. I thought it was #1,2,3 in the sales chart during the holiday season. Super Mario 64 DS was in their Top 10 for quite a while too.

So the PS2 is winning because of idiots?

Quick someone get Greg Norman to make another golf game to make up for this travesty. Plus Wraslin' is not a sport. If they had a male soap opera category then this would be complete.

I'd rather see WWF grouped in the sports genre than the fighting genre.

I would rather not see Wraslin games at all but thats just me. They need to make a new category for games like this and Nascar.

Say something like "Entertainment for the Walmart Shopper."

PC gaming is dead, isn't it? :)

When Need for Speed sits at #1 for 7 weeks its then you got to worry. Especially since its the PS2 version. :lol

Mario 64 was number 1 for 3 weeks at launch, during the dead period of Feburary so of course a new handheld launch would garner number 1. Wario Ware touched came in at around 5 and then 8 for a couple of weeks. Nintendogs all 3 versions came in at 1 2 3 for about 3 weeks after it launch then faded to 5 6 9, and then only Dach has come back in at 9 and/or 10 since. Mario Kart DS is the only other DS game to get into the top ten it sat at 5 for a couple of weeks and thats about it. It pops back in and out at 9 or 10 every so often.

The DS FTW is very valid, everyone in AU knows what a PSP is and others just dont get the DS, every indication, shelve space, the mood from retailers indicates the PSP would be ahead even after launching Sept compared to Feb.

And no PC gaming is very much alive.

Are you trying out for the position vacated by Izzy? I mean you keep going around and pointing out that the PSP came out later like it should be taken into account. Guess what? Its not Nintendo's problem. :P

Sales are sales and if you snooze you lose. Nobody gets defensive when somebody puts up the top selling titles of this generation that has launch titles vs. games that have only spent a year on the market.

I was going to put in my above post...

"You say the fact that the PSP came in September as apposed the DS in Feburary, as reggie would say "Not my Problem"" However I did'nt but you did so now i dont have too :lol

Shortly after the PSP was released, I went to be EB is South Australia and asked them how the PSP was doing. Their response was ridiculous. They basically said the PSP is selling great andf the DS is laughable. Despite selling the DS, EB were really pushing the PSP.

I have nothing but pity for the poor fool whoes going to believe that person.

Yeah thats the entire "Vibe" here about the PSP, the PSP gets 2 times the store space, its better positioned, its in every catalouge (the DS is'nt very often) EB are still pushing the PSP more then the DS, the DS at my EB has 5 shelves high and the GBA has the other 5, the PSP has 20 shelves, two sections wide, one for UMD Movies and the Rest for Games and Accessories. Maybe they are pushing it more because it aint selling? Who Knows.

I'm wanting to see a real source. The info on your site isn't even linked to it.

edit: Here is a link to the document from the IEAA.

That list isn't really DS FTW. Not every topic needs to reference DS in some way.
Quoted for truth.

It won best selling handheld (not surprisingly, it's just a safer choice for the primary handheld purchasing market (parents)).
Super Mario 64 DS won best selling adventure handheld game (this really isn't outstanding, considering the lineup on the PSP)
and Nintendogs won best selling simulator (who would have guessed?!)

Don't know where you pulled DS FTW!! from VOOK.

boohoo.jpg

Im all torn up insde. The PS2 probably outsells the Gamecube 7-1 to one, you dont see me care. Go try your lame troll atempts in a country that cares.

EDIT: ..oh Stryder posted the PDF's... never mind

That remark is for NFS Most Wanted sticking on the top of the charts for 7+ weeks while other brilliant games such as Shadow of the Collosus and We <3 Katamari go like shit. The typical Australian PS2 owner will never play those gems in there life but will put down 99 bucks to play another Need for Speed.

he is just referring to the fact that it outsold the PSP even after the massive PSP hype. Just that...
but the thread went downhill from the 'idiots' part...

Yeah I said DS FTW not Mario Bros and Nintendogs FTW, hell I even left off my Paragraph I added for my site pointing that out when I copied it here.

Dont shoot me Im just the messenger, the DS won an award to for being the best selling console and thus my FTW statement is true.

TEE HEE

I...dont really understand how poeple think here.

You people act like its an achievement when a system that has been out 5-6 months longer is outselling one that was only on the market for 4 months..Where is the logic at? Why would you celebrate something so petty?

ITs like celebrating the fact PS2 has outsold Xbox360 total worldwide so far....It just makes no sense whatsoever.

Its almost like you are trying to savior these moments becuz you know its only a matter of time before PSP passes DS, once you give it an actual chance to build its fanbase up compared to teh competition.

Until you stop celebrating useless situations, i will always point out how dumb it is to be doing so.

And its amazing you use the "Not Nintendo's problem" with everything, wtf that doesnt mean anything. It doesnt change the fact you are comparing 2 products sales that have no right to be compared right now.

:lol What am I five years old? Please, like I said Im just the messenger.

Mentioned this in anyother thread... Someone I know who is usually quite reliable told me DS has sold 180k in Aus vs 130k for PSP.

Not sure if it would be solid enough to use in worldwide calculations, etc though!
