A private school in Australia has banned its pupils from listening to their iPods. The yuppie consumer gadget will not be permitted in class, because it encourages kids to be selfish and lonely, according to the school principal.

Here we've another negative Ipod article, it's funny...

So we modestly propose that in the interests of consistency, anti-social technology such as the iPod should carry similar health warnings.

In Brazil, the consequences of smoking are dramatically illustrated, as we see here.

Translating: "Smoking causes sexual impotence".
Every cigar box here in Brazil has images of smoking unhealth consequences... :)

but ipod encourages social interaction. How else would you fill up the thing except by talking to people and ripping their stuff?

There is also the issue of kid’s bringing very expensive Ipods to school; I doubt the school wants to deal with the implications of one getting stolen.

jesus. why not ban unassigned reading too. totalitarian states often enforce participation in clubs and games. sometimes schools are like little totalitarian states.

Haha, my middle school did that (you had to sign up for a club). I signed up for "The Board Game Club" where the teacher didn't give a shit and nobody played any board games.

OMG it’s compulsory to join the student guild at our federal universities (almost all uni’s in the country) and maybe the few private ones (not sure). We are living in a totalitarian state!
