No chance a new Just Cause is ever coming I guess...
Series peaked with the 2nd game anyway

Tbh I'd rather get another Mad Max game but that's never gonna happen

What've they even been working on? No releases since the stinker that was RAGE 2

Just Cause 3 is very good. The only downside for me was the map being way less interesting than JC2. But in terms of gameplay and mechanics, JC3 was above JC2.

A shame. Just Cause is a cool franchise to have fun and just blow everything into massive explosions. Too bad JC4 was shit.

Yup, Phil Spencer strikes again, the Grinch of gaming out here killing studios, shutting them down and canceling games. Even if the studio isn't his, he's out there making partnerships just to kill them

Their main branch didn't release anything since Rage 2 and that game was a flop. Probably the result of having Contraband cancelled, another case of trying to get a piece of the gaas pie instead of sticking with singleplayer games.

It's still not a total closure of all of their offices so who knows, maybe they'll attempt to make another Just Cause (or Mad Max, but that's very unlikely).

I thought these guys made Hogwarts Legacy, a Google search tells me that was Avalanche Software... a totally different dev.

Why "fuck Microsoft"?

They were supposed to continue financing Contraband no matter how long it took to release.

Honestly, if they were making a GAAS they should've released it to early access. Especially with how long they've been working on it.

Because they cancelled a game in development for at least 4 years with no gameplay to be seen. Absolutely criminal.

Ah.....Contraband. Forgot about that. Thanks

I have enjoyed all their games so I am sad to hear they are struggling. It has been a long time since they have released anything so it's understandable they are starting to have money problems.

Also I loved Mad Max but wasn't it a mega bomb. I always assumed we were never getting another one.

Avalanche had gotten too big it def needed to trim the fat.
They were 400+ strong.....but werent really releasing much.
Im sure Contraband being cancelled has something to do with this, but really studios need to start thinking about getting a lot leaner so every project doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

A mad max sequel is even less probable now.

No mad max 2 ..,😕

Mad Max was/is a Warner Brothers game.

After WB became WBD there was pretty much no hope for Mad Max 2.
Worse still WBD is focusing all their eggs on Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, DC Universe and Mortal Kombat. (Im sure they will keep making Lego games too)

Consider Monolith was shuttered.........and they were a monumental studio, I actually just reinstalled FEAR after the new patch came out, so seeing that logo and remember how good Monolith were.....im so sad Warner Bros Discovery doesnt seem to really care about games, they care about milking every dollar.
Mad Max was a cult hit but didnt set the world on fire so no hope for it.

If WBD dont get their heads out of their asses we might never even get a game that uses FreeFlow combat from them ever again.
Not to mention the Nemesis System is stuck with them till twenty thirty fuck off.

A shame for those affected but this is hardly surprising.
They haven't released anything since 2019 and as far as I know their 2 previous games (Rage 2 and Just Cause 4) underperformed.
With Contraband cancelled and nothing new from them on the horizon you can't just keep people hired indefinitely if you aren't releasing any successful products.

I always wonder what happens with disasters like JC4. Dead Rising 4 was another one.

Is it people left, is it that people didn't leave and just have bad ideas, is it budget, probably all of that and more. But one thing is for sure, they probably never ever come back after those.

It was the usual physics and destruction luna park, what was bad about it?

It did superhand before tokt...
It's just a worse Just Cause than JC3 in most aspect. The map is very bland, it also looks cheap, the visuals are downgraded compared to JC3 and it's still quite buggy.

But you know what? It's been years, I'm gonna give it another try! Not expecting much tho

I wish we got a PS5 patch for JC3. Never really ran great on the PS4 or even the Pro.

Made a deal with the devil and paid the price.

Would have loved a next-gen technically-advanced Just Cause with bigger explosions and faster streaming of assets.

I have a friend who calls this "lost technology." Some developers have a perfectly fine franchise that's doing really well and has obvious areas for improvement. But instead of building on that, they release a sequel that lacks features and has lackluster gameplay. The examples are countless, sadly.

That's one of the many reasons I play on PC. Like RDR II, what a shame to see this game still locked at 30FPS on PS5/Series.

I can't believe a studio with a formula of Just Cause 2 could make lackluster entries and close shop.

They havent closed the Just Cause studio, theyve closed the UK studio and other satellite studio staff.
The main Swedish studio is still running.

They got really big in 2018 for reasons unknown, they were over 400 employees in all across like 4 or 5 studios........for what?
Thats a heavy operating cost when you aint released anything since 2018.....im honestly surprised it took this long.
We had no footage of Contraband, not even a "fake" gameplay trailer.....the writing was on the wall.

Just Cause 4 didnt work out as well as they thought it would and honestly they needed to look back at what made Just Cause 2 so much fun, and build on that.
I actually liked RAGE2.

Hear me out: Just Cause 2 Remastered.
Take the profit from that, fund a reboot of Just Cause. Turn everything to 11.
I don't think that would be enough to fund a proper installment, more like to test the waters whether people are still interested in that kind of gameplay. I'd support it, I've been playing some JC2 through backwards compatibility and the outdated graphics are the only con.

Weren't they tainted by Sweet Baby?
If yes, good riddance.

Sweet Baby Inc was founded in 2018.
The last game Avalanche Studios made was Rage 2.

Are you maybe thinking of Avalanche Software the developers of Hogwarts Legacy?
